I’ll see what 2 pure have to suggest on Monday as I’ve resigned myself to the fact that i’m not riding on them the weekend! booo

You still using your Cobalts ? Any routine maintenance tips or issues that you’d care to share with me ?

    Jason:

Are the spacers that your on about sort of clear / blueish nylon / plastic and very thin ? If they are we did wonder what they where for, they looked like they would crush under a bit of pressure. the guy’s in the shop had no idea, and 2 pure had gone home at 4pm so they couldnt help either.

    BR:

Looks like what we need to do HOWEVER there was very little thread engagement on the cassette locking ring as it was without the spacer… so much for 9 & 10 speed being the same width! So I guess fitting the spacer will mean NO threads for the lock ring ?

I was SOOOOO excited to ride these wheels this weekend, but i’m gonna have to wait until next week when me & the shop can get hold of 2 pure for advice.

Plus 1 on that… mind if I tag along sometime ? I’m in Coventry.

is cannock chase worth the drive or is there something more local?

Great service from.canyon UK, and a awesome bike!

Love it so glad I took the plunge …. The kit per £ is just amazing! The bikes nice and light pretty much on the weight it was sold at, rides brill and the finish and attention to detail is exceptional.

If your at cannock this Sunday your mire than welcome to have a lil go on it….

Mixed reviews as ever… But I’m with Jason on this one… And my bike will be adorned with a set tomorrow !

Cast your mind back a few years to “spinergy rev-x roks” wheels… If you believed the internet they would explode, shatter, chop your mates hand off etc… However after owning and riding a set on my commuter for the past 4 years I can say that they are pretty strong! And mine are still perfect, even in minus 4 on the way to work today.

    Interesting reviews tho guys, cheers.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me on the 2nd december 2011. i used http://WWW.CYCLECLAIMS.CO.UK and they (Clair Noon was my contact) where brilliant…. I got 3K new for old on my Whyte that I was punted off… and i’m still waiting for the payment for my injurys (broken rib, cuts bruises stress 2 days off work etc..)

TAKE LOT OF PHOTOS OF YOUR INJURYS AND THE BIKE…. REMEMEBR THAT OLD BATLE SCAR ON YOUR BIKE “MAY” HAVE BEEN CAUSE
    D IN THE ACCIDENT 😉

I don’t know how you manage to get SPD pedals to last that long, I find the cages wear to the stage that, even with brand new cleats it starts getting very tricky to unclip

Nor’ me i’m actually amazed they’ve lasted so long… considering they get a blast with the hose, and a squirt of oil if there lucky… and as for clipping in / out. No problems thaty still hold nice and tight, and have that satisfying CLUNK when you dock into them. There great.

“Backswing” running tights, love em to bits, and very occasionally there available in Primarni! for next to nothing…. (Edit: Primarni own backswing – so that’s why, but there still only in there very occasionally) there nice and soft, but just thick enough to keep your legs “just right”

Brilliant! so its pretty true that the Old stuff is still “the best” compared to some of the modern super light weight stuff!

I’ve also got a 1998 GT Xizang Ti frame fitted with the much despised by many (BUT LOVED TO BITS BY ME!!) Quasar Number 1 linkage forks (Factory Prototypes don’t you know!! ) Oh and that bikes also fitted with a set of Spinergy Rev X Roks Carbon wheels… Truly retro. Its my Daily commuting bike in the summer but gives way to the Whyte PRST1 “works” in the winter.

If I could post images, I would show you it in all its glory!

I have a Canyon Nerve XC and it climbs AMASSSSSIN! I did a fair bit of research before hand, and came to the conclusion that the 0.5 deg diference (between the XC and AM) in head tube angle and better “DOWN” abiliy’s of the bike! I took the plunge, and LOVE it to BITS…. the value for money is mind blowing, and the way it rides is Brill too.

I get out on it so much Mrs Smith has questioned if I’m having an affair with the bike… she’s even named it Kinki Kandi in honour of how I told her the bike loves it rough and dirty! lol Gota love my Mrs for that.

I wouldnt hesitate to move over there if the Wife would do it.

That’s funny, my Mrs is mad for moving out ther, but I’m not so sure ( I like my Job too much)

… Hey idea, swap wives, everyone’s happy that way lol Mine has a pretty good spec too: 5″9′ size 10, and great to ride! lol

Anything but Trek, Spesh or Giant! You need to find something with a 20 percent discount in the UK (so that more than covers the Aus import duty / GST). Then you’re effectively having it shipped out for less than any excess baggage charges. Brands like Santa Cruz, Yeti, Rocky Mountain, Surly, Salsa, still have a premium in Aus. Lapierre could be good. Whether you want the hassle of selling it at end of your hols is another matter.

I was thinking of Cube, Canyon or some other well specc’d bike. I’d leave it with my Bro in-law, and get him to sell it on for me.

Hmmm Buy the same bike as I own, ride it for a month, and sell it on for a small profit after… and not have to bring it home either… hmmmmm 😕

If you want any more info pm me, I can ask a few mates to show you around if you want?

I would if I could, is it cos I’m a new member or I’m stoopid, can’t see a PM button against your name ?

We go on a annual outing to Trevella Park just outside of Newquay (Yuck) but close enough to all the good stuff down there. If your with Kids, Hendra is great, but a bit chavvy sometime.

[/quote]If you were really clever you might consider buying in the UK sales a bike from a brand that is still expensively niche in Aus (bear in mind that run-of-the-mill bikes are 20-30 percent more in Aus, less common brands, such as Surly, much more so), having it shipped over by the shop to Aus (£175 or less), riding it for a month and then selling it – I think there’s a fair chance you’d make a few quid..

Interesting Idea 🙂 and It’d save me having to bring it back! wonder what the most desirable bike brand (Sub £1.5k)in Oz is … Ideas ?

Bikes DON’T come out of your luggage allowance, they are free and extra on top of your allowance.
erm, yes they do, its only golf clubs that don’t…

I just called Emirates, and the bike WILL form part of my 30KG allowance… good job the kids are flying with us too… small clothes = more space for my stuff! lol

Just got to find a decent hard shell bag now, as I’m paranoid about damaging the bike.

Guy’s long time lurker, first time poster.

GET THE CANYON! They really are ACE bikes, as you can tell i’m a new convert ! lol

I have just got my Canyon Nerve AM 6.0 – 2011 courtesy of E-Bay, for the bargain price of £1100.00

Having read all of the great write ups and studying the website I was convinced, I’d just never ridden one, nor knew anyone who owned one.. and just as I was about to order a brand new Nerve AM one turned up on ebay with 3x 10 sram X9 groupest, Talas Fit 15 32’s and RP23 shock!

All I can say is WOW This is my first venture into a All mountain bike, and this thing is AMAZING!! climbs like a goat, decend’s like er … a goat.

TS AMAZING THE REVIEWS ARE RIGHT, and pretty light too, at 13kg.

I’m 5’9″ and weigh 90kg, I chose a SMALL as I like a nice tight cockpit, with a high saddle, and it fits me perfectly…a joy to ride.

The attention to detail on the frame and finish is second to none, internally routed cables, little canyon embossed cable rub covers, heli-tape everywhere, Schweet anodizing, its brilliant.

Oh, just for comparison, before I bought the Canyon I test rode a Trek Fuel and Specialized camber .. the Canyon EASILY outclasses, on spec, price and ride performance both of them.

Get a Canyon AM its only got a 0.5 degree difference in head angle over the XC, and slightly longer chain stays (Compare the Geo’ on the website – i did) but it works, and it’s genuinly ALL THE BIKE YOU’LL EVER NEED, you won’t be dissapoined! if you are I’ll buy it from you! lol
