    Hi kcal

I said “not a tester” because where possible I don’t use them.

I make sure that the QA on the team is the guardian of quality (not a tester) and working with the Devs to make sure that they are automating the tests to such a level that when the code is ready that they have seen them being built and know 90% that the code will perform as expected hence “Not a tester”.

    e.g. BDD / TDD / CICD / 3 amigos etc.

    we have one of these:

    Sunncamp 400SE

which we bought from ebay. The newer versions are not canvas so easier and lighter but probably less cool in the summer.

The beds are raised from the ground, and it has a 4m square living room space and a decent kitchen area.

you can also fit loads more on the trailer including a bike rack over the tent and a bike rack on the a-frame so pretty good for cycling families.

For me the question is what do you enjoy?

There are lots of roles listed here and tech has so many interesting possibilities at the moment just think about what you fancy and be honest with recruiters and ask for their opinion about how you could position your CV to get what you are looking for. Probably a good idea to find an agent who specialises in that area too.

If you want to change direction then this is generally easier if:

    a) you are in a contract and an opportunity arises
    b) if you are prepared to take on a perm role at a more junior level – Are you?

…but you probably know this is you have been around the block for the last 17 years. 🙂

2 things not to do listed here IMHO:

    – Be a Tester (what are they?)
    – Prince 2 training (for the love of god please no).

    Hi,

Dad to 3 boys here. My 2Cs

Get him outside to vent some of his energy. I was once told boys are like puppies they need a walk in the morning, afternoon and evening.

At that age they have a ton of testosterone flooding around their little bodies and they have not developed the means to express themselves and their emotions clearly. It also sounds like this kid has complexities in his home life to deal with too and mixed messages from his parents.

so.. get him out to the park or for a walk in the woods (preferably somewhere he can run off a bit without being constantly reigned in), let him run, play storm troopers (take snack or hot chocolate) whatever with him, give the positive attention that he is craving then you can take him home and bake a cake, draw a picture of the games you were playing etc.

Good luck & hopefully – have fun.

Used invisiframe twice. Not cheap but good…. don’t think you get both 🙂

Invisiframe riding the wave of being uncontested at the moment… won’t last forever but for now…

Nice. Photos not showing for me for some reason.

We went for the HOY 24 Bonaly and put the RST forks & some rocket rons on – kids love ’em nice and light, good build been fine for BPW / Alps and general UK trails.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

We stayed in Les Gets last year (family holiday).

The green runs in the semi-wet had pretty steep bits for people who don’t like MTBs.

For the Mrs the best bike trip was along the side of the river on the valley base. Picnic sedate / scenic etc. towards Samoens. Lac Montriond also supposed to be good.

Lot’s of out doors stuff going on: rafting, walking, canyoning, days by the lake. Take waterproofs too. Weather unpredictable.

For the more fun routes if you ride regularly you’ll be fine on all blues and reds. reds have gaps but as options. Main thing is that it is all steeper than over here and watch out for braking bumps like you won’t believe.

    Great fun though. Enjoy!

Spin Class instead. Watch the numbers and power output, then again the lights are out so you can;t see anything else anyway.

Thing is the cost of recruiting the wrong person in contract or perm is high in wasted / time / effort / delays etc.

With the tests, you do sometimes miss out on good (really good) guys, but the ones that you do get, usually are good too so it does cut out the guys who don’t know their eggs as well as some good guys.

..so they are not perfect but they do help.

There has to be a balance though and some tests are overly long. One of my DevOps guys came up with an awesome test but it was the best part of a day’s work and the candidates just didn’t need to do it and walked in to roles down the road. We trimmed the test and it helps both of us.

It is seriously amazing how many candidates are not up to the mark though (not just java devs) and with agents not being able to weed them out the tests help.

    Good luck!

2 of my mates have them and I’ve test ridden one.

Very nice, clever feeling rear suspension.

Game changer?? hmm, nice bike but so are lots of others and I managed to pick up a bike that I think is also pretty awesome and I got the complete bike for less than the Following frame only price.

Key thing putting me off is unproven customer service after their last screw-ups. Sure these might be better but if their attitude was ‘sorry your bikes broken, nothing we can do’ they don’t seem like the kind of guys I would like to be in bed with for a 4K bike.

“abandon bath” events too familiar too, many car sick stories and the joy of the norovirus too. ah yes remember them well.

We went to a wedding with our 2 week old twins and while changing one on the back seat of the car he decided to let rip with what can only be described as splatter poo. Gloopy green spray – all down my white shirt, light grey suit and tie on a fine rural summer’s day. Nice.

Their younger brother likes to express himself slightly differently. I think he was 2 or 3 when he woke us up early one Saturday standing over us on our bed waving his bits around in circles saying “Look Daddy – Willy willy woo woo, giggle” repeatedly.

Oh yes – lots more naked trampolining than I imagined too, both them and their friends just abandoning their clothes whenever the feeling takes them.

On the plus side – when they were little they would see me dressed up to go MTB night riding and tell me I looked “cool” something their mother never really did for some reason.

and the 6 year old still waves me off every morning from the door with “Bye Daddy you’re the bestest Daddy in the whole wide world and universe and galaxy and planets” which is quite nice. 🙂

Hiya – I’m just saying that the 11 on the rear mech should ‘just work’ with a 1* on a double front chainset because they are designed to work with a 2*11 anyway so therefore the chain line should be just the same as setting up 1& 11 as for 2*11.

    any clearer?

10 & 11 speed rear mech are designed to be used 1* & 2* aren’t they? if so, is there any reason a double should be any more of an issue than a single set-up?

Good thread. Thanks. I’m looking for the same thing.

Plenty to check out here and I was thinking the same things as you.

Went to the Alps last year. The kids loved the uplift and big bouncy bikes but the mixed weather dod not win over the missus.

Will let you know if I find anything else.

Drover – if I could have ordered from you today I would have done 🙂

Iain – you are right. Thanks. bike24 have a price promise apparently, for the sake of a few euro though I just ordered.

    Thanks again all.

    Nice looking bike!

Last time I chekced – the three standard HT / Rigids for this size are the Hoy Bonaly, The Isla bike & the Frog.

We have the Hoy and I fitted an RST air fork & some Rocket Rons from bike-discount. Still lightweight so fine on climbs and descents, the kids have ridden them in the Alps, Bike Park Wales, Surrey Hills etc (although they did prefer the rental burly Commencal’s for the alps – until the hill pointed upwards).

Generally – big thumbs up for the Hoy though. Not worried about FS but disc brake mounts on the frame would be a bonus.

I was looking in a similar bracket and bought this in the end. 10% off with BC discount – obvs has to be the right size for you but the deal was too much to refuse. I know mates who have them and love them too so this made the choice easier:
