The previous version of the Brother fork was the same as the two other versions – Selcof at Planet X and the Sonder Pathfinder at Alpkit….

I really like mine, an own build spec and fairly light. The geometry is a good halfway house – it feels comfortable for long distances / loaded but can also tackle some techy trails. It’s basically a good all-rounder, not too steep and not too slack.

Had XR4 F/R on my FS which survived a week of abuse in the Alps just fine. The rear did get cut in Scotland on a sharp rock so have since moved to SE5 F/R through the crappier months at least. Their tyre range is really good, have also used a super fast XR2 on the rear of the HT.

I have some Ergotec flat bars with 12deg backsweep, 780mm wide (from BikeInn) which you may see over a brew in the woods on Sunday….

A sad day, discovered him via the first Buena Vista Social Club album and then through The Band’s work – amazing music. RIP Robbie

Looks to have turned out very well – hope to see it shredding the local trails soon – plant free :-)

Can confirm that Racekings are super fast and pretty good off road, if you ride actual trails (bridleways etc).

Currently building up a large pink clay frameset to replace a carbon disc all road bike and a steel rim brake bike into one all-rounder.

A quality finish as usual from Brother, and nice design details. It might be a little less fancy than other similar frames but seems good value.

Will report back on toe overlap and the first ride soon (plus pics 😄)…

Perceptions linger. Interesting that the rust of early (pre-2007 ish) is still the thing people talk about. My 2007 Vito is galvanised and is the best bang-for-buck vehicle I’ve owned. The 2.1 engines are a good compromise between economy and liveliness.

Salsa made a full suspension fat bike. By all accounts you really COULD ride anything on that. If I were rich I’d have bought one immediately, they looked an absolute blast.

They were/are – I had a Carbon Salsa Bucksaw and it was very monster-truck like! Almost too good, you could ride daft things both up and down. Nowadays I have a regular trail bike but still keep a rigid fatbike for mucking about on and the odd bit of racing.

Foam spacers, a length of paracord and a toggle work well to stop unwanted flappage…

    Good work there 👏😉

Topeak DP mount works very well and only take c.10mm of your dropper travel. Good if you have the clearance for it when dropper is at full travel.

I use a small powerbank with a short lead from a top tube bag if it’s a long day out and I’m navigating (Edge Explore).

Lots of metal shelves with shoes boxes or plastic crate tubs. For smaller bits and bobs, a few Stanley organiser cases with dividers – these work well and are often on sale at Screwfix at £10….

I still have far too much random stuff kicking around though!

Ha, I had a very similar experience a couple of months ago with a 2.6 Barzo holding up an order – it was dispatched soon after a moan!

The GP5000TL have been good for me in both 28c (comes up true to size, unlike the old GP4000s) and 32c.

A suitable carbon fork is rather close by at PX – the Selcof one (same as Alpkit/Sonder/Olsen) is on sale…500mm a2c, should be just right instead of a 120/130mm fork.

XR4 both ends on the FS, feel pretty grippy to me, also survived a week of backcountry abuse on very rocky alpine trails a few weeks ago.

XR4/XR2 on the hardtail, again very happy with them as a fast, comfortable pairing.

Their tyres seem to be true to size, roll nicely and have taken some abuse without complaining so far….

Nice. Brought a similar age and mileage Vito 5 years ago – it’s been great! Still going strong as a really useful second vehicle for adventures and practical stuff too.

All of the above are good suggestions – it’s one of my favourite areas. We stayed at Ravenscar last year and rode a nice loop along the Cinder track and through the Moors – more gravel than MTB but a lovely day out. There are so many nice tracks in the Moors!

Had a couple over the years:

£333 940 Wentworth 2.0T auto – made it to the Alps and back with 4 of us and sold for a profit!
£320 850 T5 manual – total wreck but served as the fastest tip run car ever during a house resto. Sold to a loon building a twin engined race 850…

    Happy memories of Wentworth!

Ironically, the first parcel due to be delivered by EVRi yesterday was damaged beyond repair somewhere in transit….
A replacement was immediately reordered which arrived (intact) today.
