They won’t release it though – they aren’t allowed to. It is lose-lose for the hospital. The parents can say whatever they like but they cannot respond due to patient confidentiality.

My number is in the phonebook of ‘Ould Delores’. I reckon scam – I checked the phonebook and the numbers were scattered from all over the UK. I live in Nottingham but am Welsh so my telephone numbers are mainly the Nottingham/Derby area plus some in Wales.

Remember that the iPad wasn’t developed with mouse usage in mind – you cannot pair a bluetooth mouse or trackpad to an iPad. There is no pointer that shows up – it assumes you only use fingers.

You can pair a mouse with a Nexus though.

The modprobe wouldn’t give you any info, it would load the kernel module to see it.

I see the module loaded (lsmod | grep force), so it should enumerate any network links it sees.

    ifconfig -a

This should show you all network interfaces.

    ethtool eth0

This should show you the speed, link etc. for eth0 (change to eth1, eth2 etc. for them). It *could* be that it is trying to negotiate 100Mb duplex which can be a swine; forcing it both sides for 100Mb is what we do on our servers. Gigabit is OK.

I am not too keen on him but saying that if you can’t win an argument by discussion but insist on physical assault it shows you’ve already lost.

He’s a good orator though, even though I may disagree with him.

Its most probably the forcedeth driver that has been around since 2.6 days.

    sudo modprobe forcedeth
    lsmod | grep force
    dmesg

Does ‘ifconfig -a’ give you anything?

Is your router set up to allow any MAC to connect?

On call. Then more on call. Then fewer staff to do the work because almost everyone else has been outsourced.

    Then Christmas, I guess! 😀

Tom – there appears to be more to this than a simple reddit. I read it and would dispute the figures insofar that the definitions of that is ‘violent’ is different legally per country. Then there are others to actually take it apart:

Is the UK more violent than the US?[/url]

So lets make this clear. If his name was Scotty McScottish, winner of the Most Scottish Scotsman in the Vale of the Scots for ten years in a row and only wore a kilt and every five minutes stopped to either dance or toss some cabers and had “Take the High Road” on loop everywhere he went and had tattooes of the Saltire on each bum cheek he still wouldn’t be Scottish enough for you because of where his mother gave birth?

    😀

From Wikipedia. Sounds pretty Scottish in ancestry and life to me.

Alistair Darling was born in London[2] the son of a civil engineer, Thomas, and his wife, Anna MacLean. He is the great-nephew of Sir William Darling, a Conservative-Unionist Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South (1945–1957). He was educated in Kirkcaldy, and the independent Loretto School,[3] in Musselburgh, then attended the University of Aberdeen where he was awarded a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). He became the President of Aberdeen University Students’ Representative Council.

Before joining the Labour Party at the age of 23 in 1977, Darling was a supporter of the International Marxist Group, the British section of the Trotskyist Fourth International.[4] He became a solicitor in 1978, then changed course for the Scots bar and was admitted as an advocate in 1984. He was elected as a councillor to the Lothian Regional Council in 1982 where he supported large rates rises in defiance of Margaret Thatcher’s rate-capping laws and even threatened not to set a rate at all.[4] He served on the council until he was elected to Parliament. He was also a board member for the Lothian and Borders Police and became a governor of Napier College in 1985 for two years.

Plenty of people on here like to criticise religion because they believe in evolution – why not let evolution takes its natural course then?

First that isn’t true (I criticise religion because it’s basically bonkers) but even if it were true then the chavs would win – they’re breeding more and without society they’d kill you and nick all your stuff!

All of them are completely useless. I reckon though that we get the politicians we deserve.

I have no idea who to vote for next time. Never the Tories as I can’t condone evil, the Lib Dems are purely toads (voted for them last time) and Labour are now wet Tories.

    Perhaps the Greens.

I think that in law cats are known as ‘free agents’ or somesuch but dogs are not. Therefore if your dog causes a traffic accident, for example, you are held responsible for it. If your cat does then you are not held responsible.

This is why I don’t go camping during summer months. Noise until 4am, unless you’re wild camping.

There is one campsite in Keswick though that has laser-guided turrets for noise though – Castlerigg Campsite where if you make noise after 10pm or 10:30pm they will actually throw you off site. I’ve actually seen it happen!

If yer sprogs can’t do without Dr Who for a Saturday then don’t take them camping or teach them to wait until they see it on the PVR at home!

There’s been a spate of (gorgeous) young male adult ‘actors’ recently dying through suspected cardiac arrests brought on by steroid abuse.

Depends if you want to live past 35 I guess with a normal temper.

Don’t install Linux. Use Windows 8.1, as it has a very decent kernel but an absolutely dire interface. Install Classic Start Menu or similar to make it useable.

    Or get a mac 😈

I live in Long Eaton and the local ones I frequent:

    Tandoori Nights in Shardlow
Al-Naseeb in Long Eaton (got it mixed up with Haveli’s in Chilwell)

Haveli’s is good but pricy. They have an early doors option but you have to vacate tables by a certain time.

Going to try the others when I can be asked….

Can you still buy analogue grot? Genuine query…

My local newsagent has some seriously bizarre analogue grot, including stuff that has “This gran needs a man!” on the front, trans, emo and a lot of the Razzle type stuff. It’s amazing looking at the covers while I’m in the queue for my paper.

No, not for me. Mainly ladies and stuff. 😀

So effectively without an internet connection is it unusable?

A number of apps are cached, such as google docs so you can work away from network for a while.

barnsley – you’re mainly in agreement with him then. His original point (rape) was the *individual* choice and not the state poking its nose in. He answers what he personally would do regarding a foetus with DS (which he states is what the majority would do, but I’d like to see figures on that), but unless someone hasn’t dropped me the memo, I don’t think he is ruler of the universe yet and no-one has to do what he says! 😀

An interesting question that leads from the discussion would be therefore: “Why test a foetus for DS?”. I guess it is one of a battery of genetic tests done but if this should not be done for DS why should it be done for any other genetic disorder? Indeed, why do genetic testing at all? Surely that is ‘eugenics’?

    Interesting philosophical questions.

Then barnsley we must agree to disagree. I believe the raped girl should have been allowed a termination.

    AdamW

I defend them because he’s not saying what you think he’s saying. And he’s also saying that an *awful* lot of people actually terminate DS foetuses. Not on his say-so, but their own decision.

But this was initially started by some idiot intimating that raped suicidal girls should be forced to have babies.

EDIT: admittedly he doesn’t come across to well in twitterland, better in essays, but even if he said “Two plus two equals four!” he would be receive a tidal wave of hate because of his stand on religion.

    ratherbeintobago:

No, in “The God Delusion” he states, obviously, that you cannot prove a negative, therefore you cannot disprove any god or gods. He posits a scale of 1 to 7 where 1 = “I absolutely know there is a god” and 7 = “I absolutely know there isn’t a god”. He describes himself as a 6.9. On that scale I’d also rate 6.9.

An agnostic atheist. Someone who doesn’t know if any god exists but until proven lives as if they don’t.

The link was a ‘whataboutery’ thrown in. He tweets that the Irish government is civilised apart from forcing a suicidal young rape victim to have a c-section and not an abortion.

The next comment is from a nutjob saying “Whatabout all the DS foetuses that are aborted?” as a way of saying that the actions of the Irish government are OK which throws the discussion to another track.

Paul Greengrass. Sick to death of wobbly cameras and feeling sick after watching any of his films.

His argument was regarding the forced caesarian of a young suicidal rape victim by the Irish authorities and prevention of suffering.

I’ve read the twitter thread: here and have no issue with what he said.

The daily fail just likes to be angry and bitter, and succeeds in dragging people down to their level on times.

I’d keep a copy of the disk as a file and store it somewhere just in case, even if you use it to boot a vmware image. I always worry that there are some software serial numbers in there which I forgot to write down!

Also may be useful to state which MBP it is – if it is a core duo (not core 2 duo) it will only run Snow Leopard as Lion is only 64 bit and core duo is 32-bit.

Just in case a mate turns up with a copy of Mavericks or something and tries to install as it won’t work.

I see that Sony have started to embed the tech they got for PS Now into the PS4 itself. With the new firmware (v2) you can “share” a game with a friend or get them to take over your controller remotely even if they don’t have the game. Should be fun!

I’m seeing how good petplan is. My collie was insured in early May but in June got cruciate ligament injury and had an op costing nearly £4k. The insurance form went in and we were told we would hear something by the end of July. Still nothing. They’re most probably beavering away trying to come up with an excuse not to pay.

The cost of diabetes in the NHS is colossal and a lot is caused by preventable type-2 diabetes.

    Grauniad t’other day

I reckon the nanny state *should* step in. Subsidies, if any, should be given to healthier options. Until, of course, lobbying to corrupt politicians denotes a large bag of chips to be one of your ‘five a day’.

IIRC Mark wrote a missive on this. I think he said that in shops they have to provide twice as many copies due to shopper phsychology, with people not wanting to pick up a copy unless there are many on the shelves, leading to an awful lot being pulped which is a waste of money and resource.

That’s why magazines like subscribers, it helps them to know how many copies to print.
