pads can be got from most places, perhaps even your LBS? (got mine at CRC)

    (EDIT….man….I’m even slower!)

Another vote for lights. My mates think it’s funny as I almost never ride in the daylight now! I ride when my nippers are in bed (2.5 and 4.5yrs old). To be fair, my missis is great too. Her view is that if she’s watching desperate housewives or ER or something, then I’d be better off being out on my bike rather than interrupting! :-)

    pics of aidan

There’s a few of my mate aidan here. His has RS rev airs, erm, hope ss hubs xt brakes etc. I’ve alerted him to this thread, so he’ll likely post up his opinions. He has wrong (atac) pedals, so despite me riding alongside his Djab a lot, I’ve never actually ridden it.

eeuueeewww, doesn’t sound great. The Tri season is about to start and I’ve got a few races coming up. I’ll be gutted if I’m out for too long as I’m in much better shape at the moment than I was this time last year.

14th from over 100 in my last 10k in 39:49 so yeah, 35 is a bit of a quickie IMHO.

Funniest thing for me were the people taking drinks at the feed station……at 2km! It’s possible that some of these people were racing the 5k event too!

I’m a 3x a week swimmer and my speedo endurance have been good. I rinse them in the shower and dry. They seem to last OK for me and mine have only gone baggy due to me losing weight :-).

In a thread hijack, I’ve got a rotator cuff injury, anybody got any experience of this. See this thread it hurts

Rice pudding is my early race start brekkie as it’s easy to digest. I think everyone is different tho. I can’t really eat within 2hrs of running quickly as I suffer. This isn’t the same for mates of mine tho. I can stuff my face with cake right before biking tho. I think this is due to years of training ;-)

Damn JD, I was also slower, but 15mins behind you vs 12 mins from last year :-(….we’re both catching Aidan tho ;-)

I was curious so I asked when I crossed the line. I was 104th (or 106th) and was number 509, I don’t know if this helps calibrate your photo order theory?

I’ve not ridden them for long enough to know about longevity, but I’ve got the on-one stainless ring and groove armarda cog. Seem pretty well finished.

Waves back at Trustyrusty…I was the one with the VRS octy and the eagle eyes that spotted the left gloves. Glad you had a good event (‘cos it’s not a race ;-)) It’s one of the first things in my calendar each year now.

I was riding along with Aidan on his pug near the start. It was quite funny hearing the many comments about his bike on the road section. As usual, he royally kicked my ar$e on that ride. I don’t want to even think how much faster he’d have been on his more sensible bike. As usual, great event. Did it have more riders this year? It was pretty impressive seeing everyone on the road roll-out.

Was very close to bringing my 2 and 4 yr old this year. Just the long drive put me off, not the campsite, which to my memory was extremely chilled last year and had a few older kids around.

I have a surly 1×1 and love it. “rides like a bike” as they say in their literature.

Yep, doing the usual bit-o-riding the day before with some mates. It’s possible my chum Aidan will have to ride his Surly Pugsley. If you see him say Hi, but don’t ask him about his bike….I think he must have explained is a few times by now.

FWIW I really like my kaffenback as a commuter too. Not used it for touring mind, but is seems to be beefy enough for it and has all the bosses for racks etc. A very well thought out frame IMHO.

Oh yeah and offroad running in a hilly area really helps too! Builds your core muscles and therefore improves your economy….gives a more stable base for you legs to push from IYSWIM.

Maffetone is working for me too. I think if you’re a new runner then you can get a lot of benefit from time on your feet. If you spend longer actually running, your body develops running economy. I used to do tons of “threshold” running. I now slow my runs down, but do more mileage. This is easier on your body. Don’t forget to only increase you weekly mileage by modest amounts. I think one of the well known theories suggests that up to about 120miles per week, there exists a good relationship between your performance and your mileage. Forgotten who it was, maybe “daniels” or some such. If you want the running bible, get “lore of running” from the library. Carrying it home will give you a workout too!

finbar, giving you the benefit of the doubt on your 1:29 off 30mins treadmill but I’d love to know, however, what other training you were doing?

Plus if there’s only 2 of us, does that make it the most minimal of niches? :-)

Pulls up chair. I do quite a bit of offroad running and have be curious about the inov8 packs since the bladder is kinda round the waist and has baffles. Love their shoes.

dunno if they do converse, but sportsshoes.com are great for running shoes. They do a price match thing which I’ve used to good effect.

Pulls up chair. I worry slightly about the forces you put into the frame that’s clamped by the wheel axle. I don’t think you can get the same forces when actually riding. I await the science to support/disprove this from the arm chair phyicists on here.

As a bit of an aside, electronic shifting is fairly cool for triathlon bikes. You can have 2 sets of buttons. One set on the end of your tri bars, and another set on your base bar. They have some degree of aero advantage too as they’re smaller and less "pokey-outey" than bar end shifters……Plus triathletes will spend loads on gadgety things.

I have a stumpy 120. I’ve had to have the shock bush done about 3 times in the last 4 years. This is cheap and easy to do. All the other pivots are running really nicely. I ride this bike in all the cr4p all through the winter too. Yes, it’s more maintenance than an HT, but as a proportion of total bike fettling time it’s really minimal.

I don’t have them, but 3 of my mates do. They seem excellent. Another vote for using them as a headtorch. I do a bit of offroad night running and I’m told they’re excellent for this (try that with a couple of P7s). Obviously this might not be important to you, but just in case eh?

Yep, I keep on in my camelbak. IIRC I got it from halfords.

Yes….it’s brill. Rode with 4 other mates on tue night in swinley when it was -6C. It was so fast. I agree with trickydisco, somehow frozen mud is really grippy.

bugger…is it repeated? I was just reading a book by mike stroud that covered various races including this one (he’s the bloke who accompanied ranulph fiennes(sp?) on most of his adventures)

I have fsa xl2s on all my mtbs. I always cut a gap in the crown race for easy fitting. They used to come like this but then there were some patent issues IIRC.

I know a “Zain”, does that count? I have also worked with 2 people both called Atilla. One of them was really mild mannered and about 5ft5….didn’t seem to fit.
