I’ve noticed this too – as the cassette goes on the tool starts to push against the axle endcap.
To stop slippage, I generally bolt the tool on (either with a qr or some long 10mm stud depending on axle type)and use an open end spanner rather than a ratchet.

EDIT – If you think it’s bad getting it on, wait til you try removing it 😉

Agreed. last years was the best it’s been for an age, but that was almost certainly down to the weather.

That really winds me up – if it’s booked in and all the parts are there it should really be next day turnaround.

We do same or next day turnaround.
If they are really busy (Not that many places seem to be at the moment…) then it might take longer – did you book them in advance, or drop them off on spec?

IIRC he’s near the top on a lot of the climbs at Degla too, although not ridiculously faster than others.

EDIT – he’s KoM on the long open climb near the start…

    SEGMENT

Don’t feel so bad for being 48 seconds behind him now!

Hahahahahaha, yeah minor difference in speed there then!
Flag it, and have him dragged through the streets and flogged while being ridden by a semi naked Nigel Farage.

That link is for the Euro version – the uk one has manitou’s.
Sold a few last year, forks seem to last ok, spec is good – if you can get a cheap one cos it’s last years then do it!

Interesting to see Bike Discount doing them at a 34% discount.

Last I saw they were on clearance, so pretty much any LBS should be able to do them for that!

I got mine (for the same job) from a local hardware store.
    Failing that try Halfords/B&Q/Wilkinsons etc?

Great film. The singletrack in the forest at Rotorua is amazing, just wish i had the time and money to go back.

    What he said.
Last time I was there I came very close to not coming back!

Buy that big Nine 900 right now!

@shanelechef, the 2014 Big Nine 300 had a coil fork, you need to get a 2015 one for air.

EDIT – you would probably be a 19″ at 5’10” unless you’ve got crazy proportions.

    Merida Big Nine 300

£650, but I’m sure some LBS’s would be amenable to haggling a little.

A bike shop owner literally (I mean actually using the words) told me to fkcu off recently when I had the temerity to enquire about a club discount that was published in a well known cycle journal… Service with a curled lip.

Had you spent the previous half an hour extolling the virtues of German direct sellers, while telling him that LBS’s are dead/you didn’t like his wife’s shoes?

Or maybe you’ve just got one of those faces that makes people swear? 😉

Or he could have Tourettes, and you’ve gone online mocking his disability!

its not like you get to use it when your in your 40’s anyway
Speak for yourself. I’m getting in more now than before I became a Dad.

That sounds all kinds of wrong…

Although it is pointless, wouldn’t you be able to theoretically do this by adjusting the mechs limit screws? Isn’t the spacing between the sprockets the same on 10 and 11 speed?

Allegedly yes – I’ve not seen it done IRL though.

    Normal Overdrive is standard tapered.
It’s only overdrive 2 that has the 1 1/4″ top to the steerer.

If it wasn’t overdrive 2 surely he wouldn’t need to ask?

What’s the ID of the top of the headtube?
I’m sure Hope or Cane Creek will do a cup if its a weird size.

Mine turned me away once because bike was too dirty. He told me to take it home, wash it and bring it back.

I did take it home, I did wash it and I fixed the issue myself.

If you had brought it to me that dirty, I’d have jetwashed it to with an inch of it’s life and fitted all new bearings for you 😉

I’ve been riding my Big Nine for everything, not just racing, though I do prefer light racy bikes. The Team one I linked to is twice your budget, but this one has an rrp of £1800 and is sub 11kg so around the right price and weight.

Have they changed the bottom shock mount on the 2014 ones?
The older ones didn’t have bushes or an eyelet for the bottom mount, just bearings either side. If this is the case the bolt could be seized into the inner bearing races – it might turn but wouldn’t come out.

EDIT – if that is the case, you’re probably going to have to “encourage” the bolt out.

Most riders use bikeshops to fit new parts mostly because they don’t want to get their hands dirty or trust themselves. All of them could do the work themselves if need be without a condescending attitude that some have to punters.

I’ll be honest with you,and I know that the interwebz isn’t the best at conveying nuances, but I’m only detecting one condescending attitude here.

Then why “treat yourself to a proper bikeshop setup” (sic) if
    A) it’s really easy, and
    B) shops are all rubbish (or at least not as good/thorough/gentle and loving as you) anyway?

Given that setting up gears is the quintessential 5 minute job, if you’re able to set them up to perfection yourself why didn’t you?

    This

    Sid RCT3 Great forks!
Nice and light if that helps!

    And this

What you save on those DT forks you’ll then spend out on the postage back to have them repaired numerous times. Twin Shot is a flawed design which is why DT have junked it for 2015 and gone with a brand new design of damper.

I have 2 knackered pairs sitting here you can have if you like 😉

Seeing as no-one else has said it – go 1×11
The shifting is awesome, it removes the gearing issues of 1×10, and now X1 is out the entry cost has come down dramatically.

I’m struggling to see how people are wearing out the alu 42 at the back (that you’re in occasionally) and not the alu 32/34/36 at the front (that your on all the time!).

I wore out the 12 cog on my XX1 first – think I need to go up a size on the front!
