Zip ties and bailing twine for that pro look.

    Or a nail gun!

Or man up and get wet 😉

You need a DT service kit for 3 pawl hubs – Any LBS with a madison account should be able to get you one. They’re £7.99, but they are out of stock until early march.

Mezcals last for ages, Barzo’s ok, Peyote’s wear down super fast.

TNT carcasses all seem much tougher than Schwalbe snakeskins. Plus they go up tubeless easier.

(Side question: why can Superstar sell UK made, CNC machined chainrings for £23, yet SRAM’s mass-produced efforts cost three times the price!? Someone is making a few quid here, I reckon…)

    Yeah. Wish it was me!

It’s very odd that SRAM don’t offer a boost chainline version of the groupset

They do, I’ve got one on the shelf!

I think the Midlands series should be announcing venues soon.
That reminds me to keep an eye on the midlands ones! Been meaning to race a couple of the ones nearer wales for a while. The one in the NT grounds with sandy soil looks a lot of fun.

Fields are massive too aren’t they?

525 at round 1 last year, including 83 Vets!

It got a bit smaller from there.

I’ll be doing the Midlands rounds that are on a Sunday again, The Run and Ride Series, Torq 12 and possibly go and get battered at the first National at Sherwood Pines.

    Very.
Probably worth putting fresh tyres on.
And don’t forget to clean your shoes too!

9th in Vets, 20th overall – pretty much the same as last year, which I’m quite pleased with, considering I felt rubbish and I generally have even less skillage than usual when its greasy mud like yesterday.

Jack upheld BikeWorks honour by taking the win in Sport and 5th overall!

I was in a battle with 3 or 4 other riders for most of the race which was pretty cool – although I was generally getting used as a windbreak on the long fireroad climb!

I’m not there this year, 3rd Masters last year, as I’ve got a Grade 2 separation of my ACJ after last weekends 3 Peaks – so no riding for me for a good few weeks.

    Enjoy.

Jack told me he’d seen that you had nailed yourself. At least it’s at the end of the season!

I’ll be there, for my sins. Don’t expect to be very competitive this year though. Hopefully Jack can get another BikeWorks podium!

I see Nibali’s Lazarus like form in the last few days of a Grand Tour has returned again

Yeah, ’cause he was rubbish in the first week wasn’t he? Not like he won a stage or anything…

XX1 and GX both weigh the same, but XX1 is a lot crisper shifting.
Whether that’s worth the £100 price difference is down to you!

I did alright to be fair, came home 5th in vets 12hr solo getting 12 laps done by 23:16, so not enough time for another. Not that it would be made any difference.

If the first time I’ve ridden there and the course was ace, but rather punishing with all the roots

It does beat you up a bit, doesn’t it!
I am mainly made of pain today after my last lap incident…

We’re doing a 100km XC ride in a couple of weeks, and you’re welcome to join us if that’s your bag. (It’s actually 2 50k loops so you can always bail after the first one!)

I really like my AM41s grippy enough I found and they’ve lasted much longer than any five-ten or other shoe I’ve owned. Did they change the sole for the new version and make it worse?

The soles look identical, but they must have changed something as everyone I know that had 41’s and replaced them with 7’s say they are no where near as grippy.

most LBS staff are on near min wage.
No wonder – they’re turning down free money. How much extra could the staff get with £450 than with £0? Minimum wage is £7.50 so that’s 60 hours of staff time paid for or a little bonus for the day.

What would I know though, apparently I’m clueless

But your not letting them get £450? You told them to jog on at that price.

Here’s a suggestion though, rather than suggesting the death knell for all IBD’s, why don’t you just go to a different one? they’re not all the same!

I was at Sherwood Pines yesterday too – there were 83(!) riders in Vets. Nuts!
Also pleased to be back to mid pack obscurity after being ill for the Cannock Winter Classic 😛

The seem to have a 90kg limit

Where are you seeing that? I can’t find any mention of it on DT Swiss’s website?

But like I said – over 90kg, going into their third season, still straight and round!

DT XR331 rims on 240S hubs?
I’ve been racing on them for a couple of seasons now and they’ve been pretty bombproof. Rims are 380 grams but I’m over 90kg and I’ve not killed one yet.

I ran Ron/Ralphs for ages, but used to get quite a lot of flats, so last year I changed to Vittoria, and (knock on wood) haven’t flatted in a race since.
Currently running a Barzo front and a Mezcal rear. They’re a little heavier than the Schwalbe’s, but the Mezcal especially rolls really fast.
And they’re cheaper than Schwalbe evo’s…

The good news is you can buy them separately (well in a pack of 2 for some reason…). The part number is 11.6818.001.000 and any shop with a ZyroFisher account should be able to hook you up.

The bad news is they are currently out of stock 🙄

I’ve been chopping and changing between a KMC and a sram chain. Pretty low mileage on new shimano M8000 kit. For what it’s worth I have had some chainline issues and my experience was that the new sram chain accommodated the 1×11 chainline extremes more easily than the new KMC. Once a bit worn the KMC chain has been fine though.

This – Had a customer who wanted the 2×11 XT on a new bike converting to 1x before collection. Chain was fine on the 2x rings, but noisy as anything on the 1x XT ring. Stuck a sram chain on and problem resolved.

I don’t think it was any of them, in fact I think it was being ridden by a young Katy Curd.

2 Stage? Kiwi not German though.

There was a make of bike (a German brand I think) quite a few years ago which had an idler wheel on the swingarm like that. Or so I recall, I saw it at an uplift session at Cwmcarn.

    Ghost.
    It was awful.
    Canfield did one as well.
    Similarly horrid.

In mitigation though, some of the early GCN videos were pretty grim!.
Maybe they’ll get better with time?

things are far cheaper than you think, the retailer always takes his or her cut.
for example 2-3 years ago adidas trainers retailers paid £16-35 for £55-£75 RRP trainers take out the VAT and its still a massive markup, hence even selling at half price they are making £5+ a pair
ten-12 years ago i worked for a major supermarket, chart album CDs were bought for between £1.33 and £1.76 (in bulk) rrp was £8-12

no different in the bike world

This is so true – I actually buy in Eagle XX1 groupsets for 46p and spend the majority of my days swimming through my vast vaults of gold in a Scrooge McDuck stylee.

Is it a direct mount ring or a 4 bolt one?
X Sync 94 BCD 4 bolt 30T rings are in stock at fishers. Any LBS should be able to get you one.

It’ll be the front. It’s a known issue on Sram chainrings. They’ll still hold the chain fine, but as soon as you go far from a straight chainline it’s grindy noise time.

Or maybe a bike with some new fangled bouncy bits at both ends

    And some normal bars.
But not too wide in case the tree’s bite you!

    Adam@BikeWorks
    Free Member

You’re right, the noise is almost certainly coming from a worn chainring.
It’s the unfortunate side of 1x, that you go through rings much faster.
I’ve started using Gamut direct mount rings now as they’re a good bit cheaper than Sram, seem to last longer, and are easier to clean!

As an aside I’ve found KMC chains to be generally noisier on 1x setups than Sram, but that’s purely anecdotal – YMMV.

No – get a 29er, the fast guys use them for a reason! 😉

I was pretty pleased with 9th in vets and 16th over all.
I wasn’t as quick as last year when I broke my pedal, but at least I finished!

Had a sprint finish for 8th, but my legs decided that was the time for cramp, so alas it wasn’t to be!

Had to pass the guy that knocked Steve off at the root drop by the res, luckily I survived that!
Much prefer the Fire Race to the welsh series event that was there. Course and organisation was far better!

Is that your attempt to divert an argument you cant support?

I wasn’t aware that I’d made an argument. Could you point me to it so I can see what it’s all about?

Suggest you are the one with a chip on the shoulder.

Not at all – last I checked my shoulders were surprisingly chip free!
