I went to Penmachno last weekend for the first time, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be. After reading about it on here I went thinking it was going to be like pedalling through a river for 12 miles. A few bits of the trail did have abit of water flowing down it and some big puddles. But not too bad. We didn’t do the extra loop though. Despite the painfully heavy, horizontal rain and gales, I enjoyed it 🙂

They’re only about 15 minutes from me, so I’ve never ordered online, but they have always been very helpful and friendly when I go to the shop/industrial unit.

HP Photosmart here too, got it on offer last year, very happy with it, no problems with wireless. Think I’ve got a 5510, with the scanner on top and a small touchscreen. I’d imagine the more compact ones would perform just as well.

He’s talking rubbish. Refrigerant doesn’t just disappear, there will be a leak somewhere. Turning it on/off won’t make any difference at all. May struggle to find it if it’s a small leak, but a quick pressure test and some bubble spray should pick it up in a few minutes.

I’ve had a frame from them, great service and delivered next day. Didn’t use the payment scheme though.

Have used single ply 2.35 High Rollers, Conti Rubber Queen 2.2, Mountain King II 2.2 and Vertical 2.3. All of them have been the cheapest wire bead versions and ran them around 30-35psi.

Left 6th form after the first year, started an apprenticeship instead. Best thing I ever did. Always got decent results but hated 6th form. In work I can end up doing long hours, have less days off than in school, but I have my own house, car, company van, couple of holidays a year. Hard work, but worth it

I was there yesterday evening. Car park was clear. Snow was quite deep at the top, was abit sketchy coming down but had a good ride.

I finished a 4 year apprenticeship last year at 21. I did a year in 6th form but hated it. Only did it because I wasn’t sure what to do after school. The school even did lessons on applying for university once a week, which made me realise it really wasn’t what I wanted to do. Left and got an apprenticeship at 17. The school was pretty surprised as I’ve always done reasonably well (all A’s and B’s at GCSE, good results for my AS Levels), but I was just abit fed up. I’m so glad I did what I did though. Got a company van after 12 months so I could meet people on sites and do some small jobs on my own. Then have just worked up from there. All my mates went to uni, and it was abit annoying sometimes seeing them all out on nights out and partying while i was in working 60 hour weeks, but I’ve met plenty of new people, made new friends, learnt a lot in the past 4 years, just without as much drink and time off. I bought my own house last year, I’ve had cars, wakeboard boats and a few holidays a year. Which they haven’t been able to do while studying. So I don’t think I missed out on any of this ‘life lessons’ rubbish. Just had a different experience to them. My parents have never pushed me into anything, as long as I wasn’t sitting at home doing nothing, they’ve always supported what I wanted to do, which helped me a lot. I’m fully qualified now and the company have said I could carry on and do a uni course on day release if I wanted, but we’ll see. I love what I do, I’m in a different place everyday. Although I can end up working long hours (have done 125 hours in a week before), I’m paid well and still enjoy it.

I’m pretty sure the 970 isn’t on a carrier. You can get Shimano SLX in 11-28, but that only has the 3 biggest rings on a carrier.

The only supermarket fireworks that are worth looking at is the Weco range from Lidl. They’re pretty good for the money.

Kashima doesn’t look anything like the colour in the adverts – just bought two new 2011 Kashima forks and the stanchions look the virtually the same colour as pre-kashima forks

My 2011 36 Kashima Floats look like the advert, totally different colour to the normal stanchions on my other Fox Forks.

    ranges from £3800-4950tonne.

    less for copper cable

I’ve found stripped cable to be worth abit more than your old copper pipes etc. Usually about £500 per tonne more.

I drive an L200. Yes its pretty slow and the back seats are cramped, but I don’t have to sit in the back, so I don’t really care. I find it more comfortable than most other things I drive. I’ve lost the back end about twice on wet roundabouts, but that was on the awful standard tyres, probably going a tad too fast. Fitted Cooper S/T’s and not had a problem since. Goes well offroad, keeps up with all the other 4×4’s fine (low range box with centre and rear diff-lock). Only bad point offroad is the mahoosive rear overhang with towbar, which causes the odd bang as it drags the towbar down a steep drop or something 😆

Main reason I bought it is to tow my boat. It’s cheap to tax and cheaper for me to insure insure than a ‘normal’ 4×4. I do about 10,000 miles a year in it, probably 50% of that is towing on longer trips. Gets about 28mpg on a long run, 21mpg towing 1500kg with the back full of camping gear, fuel and wakeboard stuff for 5 people. But I usually run it on veg oil on the longer trips, which saves a few quid. Service it myself for about £40, takes about an hour tops. Bit more if I do the gearbox, transfer case and diff oils.

I’ve got a rack bolted across the front of the bed behind the cab with a few QR fork clamp things and 20mm bolt through ones, front wheel off and clamp up the fork, chain around the frames through a tie down eye. Just as secure as being on a tow bar rack. Fits about 4 bikes on, but could probably get more on if I wanted.

I have X0 and X9 rear mechs, Sram chains, XT front mechs and XT cassettes on my bikes. With X0 shifters. Rear mehcs and shifters feel alot better than the Shimano stuff I’ve tried previously. Plus, the Matchmaker clamps with Avid brakes keep my bars nice and tidy 🙂

I got £38 for a small copper water cylinder so I think you’ll get more than £50 for a car

I’ve been getting £5.00 a kg for copper with solder, £2.70ish a kg for brass. And £150-£200 per 1000kg for mixed steel.

The catalytic converter is worth more than £50, just sold mine for £65 and put a de-cat pipe on.

I’ll second the Bike Outlet in York. Paid just under £290 delivered for front and rear wheels with the Stans/Hope tubeless kit (yellow tape, valves and sealant). Only complaint I have is the time they took to arrive.

Passed my test at 17 in 2007.

    My own cars…
    VW ’72 bay window van
Mini 35 – caged, tweaked engine, sump scraping the tarmac, etc. – M reg
    Ford Focus 1.8 – X reg
    Toyota Rav 4 5 door 2.0 – X reg
    Currently own a Mitsubishi L200 2.5td – 02

    Company vans…
    Peugeot Partner 1.7d – 53
    Vauxhall Astra Van 1.7td- 04
    Vauxhall Astra Van 1.7td – 54
    Vauxhall Vivaro 2.0td – 57
Currently trying to persuade work to let me have a shiny new VW Transporter to replace the Vivaro 🙂

Driven about 50 other types of vans/cars though, everything from Land Rover Defenders to LWB high top Sprinters to Merc AMG’s and a sorted Nissan Skyline. Done pretty well considering I’ve been driving less than 4 years.

Did some none UST tyres on Stans Flow rims with the yellow tape last night. Tried with a track pump and was getting no where, took the valve core out which helped abit but still couldn’t get it. Don’t have a compressor but have a few bottles of nitrogen in my van. Quick blast of nitro and BANG, seated straight onto the rim, no worries 🙂

I’m guessing a compressor or CO2 would do the same thing though, so much easier than a pump.

I’m running some carbon Truvativ 170mm cranks on mine with a 36t ring. And like Roblilly, I’ve never noticed any flex. I’d go with the lighter cranks and save 100g.

Has anyone tried one of thos Pauls devices or know where you can get them in the UK as the old front mech weighs a ton and is fuggly!

I got mine from Fresh Tripe Bikes. Didn’t have any in stock but I emailed them and when they got some in, sent me one. Looks tidy, only weighs around 65g and works perfectly 🙂

Hundreds on ebay/Amazon, have bought a few in the past off various ebay sellers, none of them have had any metal wire in them. I didn’t think they were allowed to use metal wire in them anymore? 😕

I wouldn’t stick a foil on a 2 line bar, especially not to start with, you lose any braking control that you’d have with handles. Handles and some Flexi’ kite killers on a sub 10mph wind day, build up the wind speed as you progress. At least if it goes wrong then, at least you can just let go of the kite and it’ll just flap to the floor with the kite killers on. You won’t need a harness for landboarding, obviously if you went down the depower kite route, then yes, but not necessary for something like a Flexifoil Rage.

It is highly addictive though, I only sold my gear when I bought a boat and started wakeboarding. Still wish I had it for those windy summer evenings down the beach 8)

3.5m will be fine to start off with. You’d get bored pretty quickly with a little 2.5m. Smallest I had was a 3m, only came out with winds over 20mph really.

Doug, I know, hence why I used shouldn’t. It’s a shame that some people choose to ignore the TRO and create more problems, rather than keep off and let any repairs be completed.

Alo sas its a byway or was its open to gas guzzling 4 x 4,s and scrambler bikes,

I wondered how long it would take for someone to bring up 4×4’s using the Wayfarer 🙄

As far as I know, there is still a TRO on a section of it due to water damage, so you shouldn’t meet many cars up there.

Bought a few things off CRC over the past 2 weeks. First time used Paypal, second time used a combination of £10 off voucher, gift vouchers and Paypal. Don’t seem to have a dodgy transactions on my bank account.

and money to a charity in the US?

My gf had this a few months back, some family support charity in Texas 😕 Got the $20 back though

    Yes.

Bit of a pain to get it all lined up, but once it’s set right it doesn’t rub and does it’s job fine. Around 65-70g iirc. Looks tidier than the MRP and Superstar one too imo 🙂

I’ll second carlosg, got the same one with a different name on (think I paid about £65 new for mine off ebay) and it’s been fine. No issues with it wobbling or tipping.

I use a 36t ring with 11-34 cassette, but it’s pretty flat round here. I ran a short Sram X0 rear mech with a short chain and didn’t have many problems with the chain jumping off, but got a Pauls Chain Keeper just to be on the safe side.

If you’ve got a Richer Sounds[/url] near you, I’d highly recommend them. Went to the Liverpool branch this week and the service was excellent. They offer a 5 year guarantee for 10% of the TV cost too.

Walked out with an LG 32″ LED tv. 1080P, 4 HDMI ports, USB etc. Flush mounted on the wall, very happy 🙂

Seconded. Give me a multi compressor pack any day, but I bloody hate doing air-con calls.

My L200 is fine offroad, and has been perfect in the snow/ice. When it had the standard tyres on, it got abit hairy in the wet sometimes, but only lost the back end once or twice and that was probably due to me going too fast into wet roundabouts. But got Cooper S/T’s fitted a few months back and they’ve made a huge difference to road handling and I’ve hardly had to touch 4wd in the snow.

It’s never going to be the best offroader, but it keeps up fine with all the lifted Discos and Defenders when we go green laning. It locks the centre diff when it’s in 4wd and has a rear difflock, so it’s pretty capable when it gets rough. The main drawback is the massive rear over hang, the towbar takes abit of a beating getting dragged around sometimes 😆

And like most others in 4x4s, you soon discover the laws of physics apply to you too

There was a tad of sarcasm behind my post 😉

Not everyone who owns a car, that has drive to all 4 of the wheels, is an idiot. The same way that there is plenty of idiots who drive normal cars amongst the sensible people out there.

all the **** behind in 4wds can just sit there fuming

I tend to just fly down the middle of the road, overtaking people in their measly 2wd cars, showering them in snow and slush in the process.
