Thanks hummerlicious – that’s really good to know – nice looking set-up you’ve got there! I think that’s what I’ll go for too. Thanks for your suggestion as well somafunk – that was the other set-up I was thinking about. Time to do some thinking…
acyclistforlifeFree MemberHi. Doing a tour so thinking about the Tubus Airy on my Tripster (54cm). I’m sure its on here somewhere, but has anyone used Ortlieb Back Roller Panniers on this exact set-up – does it work? I’ve been told the heel clearance is dodgy. Thanks!
acyclistforlifeFree MemberCloudnine – that’s what I thought, but the LBS said that it was too soon to have been that as I’ve only done 1000 miles and it was perfectly assembled originally, etc.
Timbur – don’t worry I was going to be nice, it’s not the fault of the guy on the end of the phone after all! (I meant upset grumpy not angry grumpy!)
DrP – was thinking of building that exact wheel up myself! How is it running for you (or have you not had a chance to try it yet!?) would be interested to know as I am currently hotly debating it with a friend for our next tour! :)
acyclistforlifeFree MemberI have just been informed by the very skilled guys at my LBS during a routine service that my Tripster’s headtube is slightly ovalised (ie the forks move in the tube despite a lot of grease). I’m obviously devastated, as even though it’s still under warranty, we’ve been through a lot together! Any words of wisdom before I get on the phone to kinesis in a very grumpy way? Anyone else had this? Mine started with a clicking from the headset when hitting any rough ground, sprinting out the saddle or going over speed bumps… :( :(
Thanks!
acyclistforlifeFree MemberWhere did you get the nanos from? I can’t find them anywhere….only the 2.1’s?
acyclistforlifeFree MemberWhen would be good – I’ve got quite flexible arrangements at the moment?
On my other question, would the Nanos give me the most grip, over, e.g the On-ones (On-One Gravel Road B.S.C. Type 1 Folding Tyre ) recommended, or would something like a continental cyclocross tyre be even better does anyone know?
acyclistforlifeFree MemberCould get crowded. Just north of Andover. Sure there’s someone on here that’s our side of Salisbury Plain, and CG is local too.
There’s no such thing as a crowded Tripster ride, only one that’s more fun! Does that make Stockbridge our centre point (you lot in Andover, Winchester, Southampton, Salisbury)? Let’s make this happen!!!
And thanks TurnerGuy – I might be getting those then, I do keep hearing them get mentioned…
acyclistforlifeFree MemberAh great – thanks for the recommendations cloudnine – I’ll have a look into those. Anything you could also recommend for wetter conditions, and do those 2.1’s fit with the Tripster?! I thought the maximum was in the 16 region…
curto80 – The Southampton area? You?
acyclistforlifeFree MemberCan anyone recommend some decent tyres that will fit on the stock Kinesis wheels designed purely for off-road riding, ideally at least 38c. I repeat – these will NOT be needed for on road, I have both cyclocross tyres or gatorskins for that. Everywhere I look comes up with tyres designed for
mixed use
. Sorry if I’ve missed it in this thread – I have read though basically the whole thing but can’t find it. I intend to take it as my only bike to the Alps on holiday for both road and mountain (I’ll let you know) with some quick tyre changes. Is that mad with 105? Will it survive the bashing – obviously we are not talking downhill courses here, but trails…?Many thanks.
P.S. Love my Tripster – the stock build with 105 is the same weight as my carbon road bike!? and the
magical flare
of titanium that you get when you stand up and put the power down is simply amazing! Anyone in the south west want to go for a joint, Tripster appreciation ride?acyclistforlifeFree MemberFantastic – thanks bitasuite that was my next question and thanks for the tip about Rose! But just to check – you have enough clearance on the Tripster with this rack and back rollers (worth checking before buying the expensive rack I feel).
acyclistforlifeFree MemberYikes! It is – I must’ve missed it?! That’s the one I now want then! Thanks for pointing that out.
acyclistforlifeFree MemberShame! The only thing I wonder is if it is as sturdy as some of the other racks by Tubus, I would want to carry quite a bit of weight quite regularly…
acyclistforlifeFree MemberThat rack really looks as if it should be part of the bike – thanks for the recommendations guys! I’ll have a look – I might be able to pick up one in Germany on our way through ;). Yeah, really looking forward to it – the advantages of the gap year! :)
acyclistforlifeFree MemberAfter some great advice from Freeborn, and reading this feed, I decided to also get a Tripster….in part as an 18th birthday present I was very much involved with choosing! So excited, the only problem being I have to sit and stare at the box for the just under a month until my birthday (when I’m allowed to open it) which I’m pretty sure is going to kill me – I’m just having to sit and gaze at the fantastic pictures you guys have posted until then…..! Even on a 10 minute test ride I thought wow! I can’t wait to get on it – I have a 180 – mile (round trip) commute every week and a 7000 mile tour of Europe lined up – goodbye trains! Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of pannier racks for it – obviously one that is worthy enough to match this bike as I am rather struggling knowing very little about racks, but need a good one as that is a lot of miles.
