    Just been watching local news.

The pumps are being set up at Dunball, along with other works to prevent Bridgwater copping it.

The Dutch to the rescue 🙂

There’s a couple of mudbanked house’s out there.

I will assume that Sam Notaro is of the large local glazing and property developing family based just outside Bridgwater 🙂

A large convoy from Europe arrived at Dunball today, all the lorries parked up on the dual carriageway, several trucks of pipe and several trucks with very large water pumps. Earth works in progress to get the pumps sited and running.

As per others, if only boiling in the bag with compatible burner then yep.
Squaddies i know love them, fast, good with gas, maybe a one trick pony.

I use a MSR pocket rocket, my old enamel tin mug is now an Alpkit Ti myti mug/pot thing. Bit lighter, easier to spread about when packing, and if i run out out of gas can just whop the Ti pot on an open fire.
    I wouldn’t say no to a jet boil 🙂

Got the 3M versions, prone to steaming. Only work if your say sat on top of an armoured car or riding a motorbike, try to do anything worklike with no air flow and they steam up.

Do use the cheaper Bolle wrap-a-rounds with the spindly metal frame, in clear and smoke lenses, they are cheaper and much better.

Must grab some next time i am in screwfix.

Northwind….. how do you define “new bike”…. it’s not new it’s secondhand 🙂

Unless your ban is anything you get is “new to you” ergo it’s a new bike so you can’t.

(possibly the wrong size for me as well, a 56 would spark some interest)

    Wrong forum ?

This is in the bike forum, was the murder weapon a bike ?

Hinkley A used to do tours, that was stopped and security ramped up loads after the twin towers.

Used to be by booking only and then names had to given pre-tour for security, so no just turn up and have a tour. Tour was really good and although we didn’t get to walk on the core cap, we did look down on it and all the people milling about, and the fueling equipment.

Don’t think B has ever done tours.

Lots of razor wire and armed guards though.

First thing to pop into my head is the colour scheme and how good it looked on Zed 1’s, always wanted a big old Zed, got as far as looking at a Zed 13 🙂 couldn’t afford either now being modern classics.

So Caterham is making me think of old Kawasakis

A bit of play could be normal.

Are they leaking oil ? (if so then a seal service and bushing check required)

My old bombers have slight play in the bushings. I had mine TF tuned after a few years of racing on them.
Tim asked if i noticed any play while riding, can’t say i had, i only noticed a bit of play when rocking the bike with front brake on.
A bit of slack was considered normal, the bushings where checked for size and within useable range.
Tim said they could put in new ones if i wanted, but they might not be any better. That was 2009, forks are still going strong, seals are fine, do my own oil changes now, learnt a lot from one pro-service 🙂

If in doubt +1 with wwaswas and windwave as they import them, couple of tuners on here “loco” or call TF tuned, or anyone local to you who knows their way around a 66 fork, ask them.

Not 08/09 or have ATA as QC on those back then was shocking, think the normal 66RC range with no fancy extra gimmicks where pretty reliable through that period.

+1 on the cyclo cone spanner set.

Bought mine years ago, been quite heavy handed with them, i have found that cone nut’s and washers tend to round off…..spanners so far undamaged.
Bought on price and expected limited useage, also nice slim design and multi size nuttage in one cheap package.

Well, no one could claim they didn’t see you if they knocked you off it.

Don’t look too bad, 2 brakes, a bell, appears to have been built up correctly as well. Brightness could be changed with a can of matt black car paint.

Would love a close up inspection :)neat or gobby welds, could be a goer for a winter hack, i would still buy a new chain and fully strip and rebuild it though, doubt pedals will last long.

Is it SS ? or fixed/free ? can’t see as someone has left the black axle packer on…. which indicates it must be well packed if the axle guards are there.

I will gladly swap my hack for some of the above 🙂

Mine was pulled from a bramble bush, where it had sat for many years.

The wheels had rotted, so a new wheelset and SS set up, found some old EA50 slightly bent bars and old deoreXT brake levers.
New brake blocks and brake cables.
It still looks shite, but has become a pedigree racer and hack….and if i get more than a passing interest in CX racing, tempted to weld some canti studs on and repaint it, but painting it would loose all it’s charm as a shite hack bike. 🙂

Had some ace fun with it, and it’s got a few more races left in it.

As much as possible has remained of the 1982 Raleigh Tempest

I have had delayed things with tescos on my debit card before.

Statement dates are later than the actual date of use, but amounts are correct. Hasn’t happened for ages, but it did take a while for the transaction to go through.

Easiest way is keep receipts, get montly statements or mini statements from ATM machine’s and keep a watch on things.
I would try and back track to see if something is amiss.

Maybe get a new card to be safe

    Nice move NZCol 🙂

what these people don’t understand is that by mucking up there own move it has a knock on effect down the chain.

Mine was from storage to the house, the lorry had to be left loaded and wasn’t available for duty the following day, so an extra day’s charge for lorry and crew had to be added, this fee was recovered from the people who “forgot” to book a moving company, and must have paid loads extra for an emergency booking.

    Naa, know nothing of Urge.

Only lasting memory of parachute’s was the lack of people i saw wearing them and said stories of injurys or just breaking the chin guard.
Although Northwind has a valid point, could have been worse…

Beefed up the chin guard i see, didn’t some people get secondary injuries from snapping chin guards stabbing them in the face with the old version.

pfff, try being a removal man for 4 years, on average move house 5 times a week.

Customers had strokes and heart attacks, fisticuffs between vendors was not unheard of….. best was stopping a gunship pilot from battering the seller with a 4Dcell mag torch, although the carpark punch up after the strip club was a good one 🙂

Had chains collapse the day before moving, most common cause was buyers lying about having the funds ready and being declined a mortgage last minute.
Some even forgot to book movers, we turn up to an unpacked house, costly for the people moving out as they get sued for extra costs by the people trying to move in

He who shouts loudest gets moved first ! legal types really slow things down.
On day of move hassle the living daylights out of your solicitor, most deals are done on a 12pm money exchange throughout the chain, keys are released legally when funds exchange is confirmed. Shame this happens at lunch time. When they say they will phone you back in an hour, they won’t, they are too busy dealing with another irate customer phoning them every 15mins trying to get the keys to the property they where told and contracted to own at 12pm.
If we turned up early to an empty house 🙂 we would perform a free for our customer an anti burgler and security check, and show them how easy some garage doors are to open, how quick it is go through a window or gain access through the cat flap, although first we did check for hidden keys….. surprising how many keys you find under a doormat/rock/gutter over the door etc etc.

If we turned up early to the house with the sellers still there….we would go on a charm offensive, and attempt to talk our way in, if we help there team move out….maybe leave a discrete window open downstairs. Nearly everytime we had this happen we could do a deal and gain full or partial access to start unloading before legal release of keys

    Big chains are the worst.
Moving to an empty property is the bestest.

My boss has just bought a new place, hasn’t sold the old place yet, no chain, got mortgage ok, took 3 weeks from start to finish, and is having a nice move of painting a room first then moving one room at a time from the old place.

People moving themselves are a nightmare, do it cheap rent a transit van and a few mates.
We turn up and help them empty there stuff onto the front garden so we could move the new legal owner in from our big flash 2500cubic feet removal lorry with everything in boxes…..and not packed in bin bags….mind you we moved someone who packed themselves like that from that 70’s estate near Huston station in London, about 100m walk to the truck carrying very cheap bin bags….. oh how we laughed when the bag full of video tapes split and it was his porn collection spread out in front of the neighbours…..adult toys was another common thing….

You see a lot being a removal man.
We got to do it all the time, thats more stressfull than moving once every few years 🙂

    Serious tip’s
Don’t pack the kettle, removal men are powered by Tea&Coffee, kettle is last thing on the lorry so it’s first thing into the new house.

Pack everything you can into boxes. Boxes stack real nice and maximise the volume of the lorry.
If you have a garage at both ends…. Start filling your garage with low priority packed boxes now.
Mark anything you are not in rush to get at as “garage” & whats in it, this will free up space in the house and make things easier for moving furniture about, you can unpack at leisure, but try building a bed/wardrobe etc etc in a room choked with boxes.

You can get around 800-1000cubic feet of volume into a garage, this can be moved real fast on sack trucks, it will aid you getting out, and speed up moving in.

Empty the attic, a lot of companies will no longer do attics for health and safety reasons, got some comedy and horror stories there.

Removal men like to start upstairs, strip it out and work downwards through the house.

Get friends to look after pets, or clear a room and shut them in.

Did everything in your house go in the front door ?
Will everything in your house fit the stairwell and front door of your new house.
We always got ripped by idiots who wouldn’t declare a sofa came through the old sash windows….since replaced with non opening double glazing….we left a few behind as they wouldn’t go out the door and the customer decided we should get and pay for window firm to come out and remove a window.
Other biggy was wardrobes and beds going up stairs. Square pegs into round holes time.

It will be stressy, if it goes smoothly it will be stressy, if it goes wrong it will be worse. However this is only one day maybe more if you have a big house, take a week out be prepared, and hopefully you will have a good team of movers, they do this everyday, they know lots of tricks, and as soon as they get you in, they can go home or head of to another job overnight.
They will try and get you in as quick and safely as possible.

Hmm will have a look over there then.

Will expect aimed at the very causal maybe ride it once or twice a year non cycling type of customer.

Few years back it was Create fixies for under £200, as a rough guide, if you fully stripped them down, wheel bearings as well, then rebuilt and checked spoke tension and true, and put a new decent chain on, then they weren’t half bad as a hack bike.

If you didn’t rebuild it, common issues where wonky wheels. bearing failure through lack of adjustment or no grease, and snapped chains, loose headset, scored seatpost etc etc.
And the cost co is half the price 🙂

Be better off buying an old Raliegh record sprint or similar to play with

    EDIT
had a look on the US&UK shop sites no sign of it ? buy one and take a photo 🙂

    Extra handy hints.

Guard release pin code as if it where your debit/credit card pin code.

Make sure bike is correctly docked and locked before walking away from it.

Don’t let anyone “help you” in any way with unlocking or docking.

Locals might offer help…..then use your pin or not correctly dock bike for you so they can borrow it on your card payment when you walk away….. it has been done 🙂

So if you get air….. a slim chance, an outside chance your cartridge might seperate allowing the lowers and front wheel to drop off midflight.

Sure i read in rules “no bar ends” and “no fixed wheel”

Be down to the BC com on the day most likely, and the status of the race. From watching lots of videos of UK racing from this year, they have appeared on bikes….

Pick a race to try and contact the people in charge, or take some bar end plugs in case they have to come off.

    Done it 2 years ago.

I wouldn’t play around and chance a fine. Contact the court directly and talk to clerks.
Judges don’t like being messed about…… they never told us what happened to one of our group….after being selected, given the chance to speak up (worm out of it) then being sworn in, he decided to change his mind. He was taken back into the court on his own, we never saw him again, the clerks refused to answer questions on what happened to him 🙂
The whole selection had to be redone again the following day wasting court/taxpayers money.

As i understood it, i could defer once and attended service at a later date.
Once you have served, if ever selected again, you can then decline to serve as you have served before.

Bit like being in a court drama on telly at times.
I was bagged for the normal 2 week period, company released me from work and refused to pay me (allowed) so i was covered for lost earnings by the court.

Did five days service, was then released from service.

Would guess a rock strike for the damage. As you say could have been there ages hiding under the rim tape.

As stated all ready, drill small hole to prevent crack/split spreading around the rim.
It’s not unheard off for people to ream out spoke holes or make extra holes to shed a bit of rim weight….then there’s fat bike rims 🙂

Would check it often to make sure cracks not spreading (after drilling small hole)and would ride it.

Health and safety, the rim is damaged, replace it if not happy riding it.

It’s also the casing TPI count to look for.

I have the cheap conti cx race, wire bead and 84 TPI casing, if i splash more cash i lose weight with the folding bead and gain better rolling and traction with 150 TPI casing.
The higher the TPI the more supple the casing is, which is better than a stiff casing.
