Mojo also machined down an XTR outer ring to act as a light bash ring on there team DH bikes several years ago (maybe 2005)
They wanted the then lightest chainset but the odd ring sizing ment no aftermarket bash rings……and machined down XTR stuff is well factory and trick 🙂

    Sponsered by Carlsberg !

And now we get gash sugar caffine rich drinks that make your wee go bright green, rot your teeth and keep you awake all night 🙂

Carlsberg should do DH racing, would rather get a can of that after every practice lap and timed run 🙂

Didn’t the Pitch have a sprung rear end before 🙂

    I could be wrong…

    Simon 🙂

I have tried single plys up front, burst them.

Normal spec 2 ply DH tyres are fine, maybe add a few more PSI than normal.

Super duty casing tyres (1.6kg) 🙂 awesome but could be overkill.

This is for me and my weight and riding, normal 20psi front, 25 rear, for the Fort i go to 25front and 30-35 rear. It’s a fast and rocky track so i up the PSI to suit.

A mini pump and spare tube saves a long walk down if you burst one, or risk trashing the rim and roll down.
Full face helmet and any armour you have, it’s a bit hard on most of the track if you crash.

The red run boardwalks….. yeah….i jumped the little table with a bit of a cross wind and got blown of it into the bog 🙂

The black run is good whatever the weather, you won’t be riding the muddy section through the woods and over the gap jump as that’s kept safe for WC use.

High rollers are popular, the soft race compound tyres get ruined on the rear, all that nice grippy granite to roll over.

Used Conti Kaiser, WTB Prowler MXs, Spesh Chunders, Big bettys and Muddy Marys, the Marys weren’t so keen on the flat turns up top, but ace for the rest of the track. The super duty MX prowler was so good i used it again even though most of the knobs got peeled off 🙂 it still gripped…. still got it somewhere, totally ruined.

On your first run of the black/wc just go easy, and if unsure pull off the track and have a quick look before you leap/crash.
Make sure your brakes are in good order, it’s real easy to get speed in places 🙂

The faster you go the smoother it gets, that will make sense after you have done it. Don’t expect to be down in 5mins, expect 15-20mins for first couple of runs, most non world cup riders are happy around the 8-10min mark, unless racing, but your not on a world cup bike.
It has been rigid raced, loads of hardtails play there, even seen a FSR Stumpjumper racing it alongside big DH bikes.

Don’t touch the back brake going through the deer fence crossing, it tends to end badly as it’s slippy over the cattle grid.
This is also the spot to stop to shake out all that arm pump, you can see riders coming down behind and they can see you.

You might walk funny the day after, this is common, so maybe don’t plan much for the day after.

It’s a great day out, caff up top, caff at the bottom (with bar) gondola uplift, bike and armour rental there as well.

Northwind has a large number of race runs on a variety of bikes as well, he might chip in with tyre faves 🙂

Ah, missed the WC last year and never raced there last year 🙂 so the water jump is new to me, but a WC only bit then, oh well means i can’t case the jump and get a wet bum when i land in the stream 🙂

Also not a fan of the current motorway, prefered it before it was changed.

However you can tell who is knackered at that point by body langauge on those jumps 🙂

The new water jump looked neat, maybe that will be left open for daytrippers ( woods below big wall ride rocky horror section )

I never find bikes like that in skips….good find and good save.

I had one about that time with magura julies, there ace until you cartwheel them down a rubble track at 27mph, then they tend to bend a bit……cheapo manipoo forks 🙂

One of the vet DH racers near me ordered the DH rig.

This was a year/ year and half ago i think.

He was getting frantic as only way to contact was via email, and delivery dates kept getting pushed back, no updates from YT, they had his money well in advance and now it’s long overdue.
Then he got a shipping date, and tracking info, still no bike, somehow they told him it was on route but had not been built yet.
John thought he had just lost a couple of grand…..

    Bike turned up, very late.
He loved it, killer parts spec and price.
Then he rode it, and hated it 🙂
    Sure he parted it out.

It’s the nature of how they operate, but he was really unhappy with the lack of info and customer service, worst online bike purchase he had done.
Hopefully they have improved. As far as i know everyone got the bikes but not within the quoted timescale.

Didn’t help her win, but by crossing the line she could have gained points, so being helped by a marshall got her rolling again faster perhaps than if she sorted it herself, so it would be pointed out that she gained from being helped. Rules is rules.

Bet Ragots team loved that after Windham 🙂

Wondering what wheel size Troy and Gwinners demo’s had 🙂 Steve Smith had 650b

    Rach was DQ’ed ?

She got a flat rear tyre, stopped to clear the wheel, a marshall helped her, then she rolled on down to the finish.
I assume because the marshall was filmed “helping” then that could lead to a DQ, even though the race run was toast, she would still have a final position because she crossed the line.

Hit and miss when it was freecaster for me, mostly it wouldn’t work, when it did it was higher res.
The redbull feed just worked fine, but it was lo-res and blurry/pixely for me 🙁

    Still….
Ladies racing was good, wonder if 3 of them use the same tyre 🙂
Keep it mixed for the rest of the races, still anyones title to chase after.

Media spin and PR story is ace.

Brittany ferries photo of him with duty free and 4 ladies in uniform 🙂

2 and 3 Para adopted him on the trip home and looked after there new best mate 🙂

Going on forum chatter elsewhere, he might have a busy week with lots of post from squaddies, bottles of scotch and maybe the odd baseball glove and ball.

Either locktited in place or seized.

Being hard to remove is fairly normal, may require some heat to the stud and brute force to crack them off (break the bond on the threads)

However with the mention of Colnago frame, which i assume ain’t cheap, wait for other replys or contact LBS (who may well just blow torch them and crack them off anyway)

    Got the comics.
    Watched the Stallone version.

Only seen trailers and reviews of the new version, which put it no where near the Stallone version which was bad, also feedback from friends that have seen it also state “you can not compare to the gash that stallone was in “

I like Dredd so much i have the 12″ single by Anthrax “I am the law” and North Wind may have noticed i wear a Dredd badge on my race jacket 🙂

As i am poor and working class, i have to wait for tesco’s to knock out the DVD for about £5 before i get to watch it 🙂

Not the stallone Dredd then (which was crap)

Haven’t seen the current (way better, truer to comic strip) version.

Also used a Stinger, and a Gamut and E13 chain device, also used rear mechs, i have a butchered sachs roadie mech (old) for this purpose. Have seen home made rear tension devices made from old MRP orange rollers and a cone spanner 🙂
Have a DMR simple tension seeker, others are out there.

Most people i know will just use whatevers to hand, that will function for the job.

He is now on his way back to Stalag luft Pines, his Mrs is awaiting his return and not impressed 🙂

That might have something to do with the photo flashed on the news this morning of him clutching a bag of duty free, while posing with 4 ladies in uniform 🙂

When i grow up/old i want to be like him.

If you weigh over 100kg or ride your single speed everyday, best to choose the steel option which is coming soon.

lack of damping might mean lack of oil as well, sounds like an oil swap out first, see if that fixes it/improves it.

Please say it also has Shivers up front as well 🙂

For the cash, sounds like a great playbike that you won’t worry if it gets nicked or you back the car over it.

    What model year ?

Ones with a bolt on arch or the later one piece lowers ?

Search for “marzocchi z1 drop off service” loads comes up.

Basic internals, a lot of basic parts still available. The loss of air could be a dicky valve or seal death/perished.

The newer ones where/are a budget OEM fork so if you can self service and find a new seal kit, some of the older ones where nicer still worth doing.
If you need to send them away for a pro-service to have the seals done might not be worth it depending on age and exact model.

Even if broken, they still work on burglers 🙂

Steve Peat when he raced Oranges for about a decade 🙂 he would us the suspension trait of the rear end jacking under bracking (called stinkbugging by the Yanks) to overdrive the fork into compression to steepen the head angle so he could run tighter corners.

I am not Steve Peat and didn’t get on well with that single pivot trait.
Much prefer the Horst linkage and FSR ride.

Would love the bearing cost’s of a single pivot 🙂
Spesh bikes used to be easy to swap shocks on, now they like doing unique fittings that are are hard to play about with if you want to run another shock, but they do (or used to) work with the shock maker to tune them into the design.

if it’s wet and windy the midgies won’t come out to play 🙂

as long as the cloud stays above the track then riding it should be fine.

if it’s super humid after the storm that might mean a breeding and feeding frenzy from midgies 🙂

A borrowed tent is always better, gives you an idea of what to expect size wise, and weight wise and you get to give it back with maybe the cost of a 4pack/bottle of wine as thanks for the loan. You might hate camping 🙂

My first tent was around 4kg, single skin, with steel poles, think i let it rot in a shed…..

I did go to the effort of doing a scale drawing in mm=cm of the Zep2XL lite, then overlaying on a scale of drawing of the laser/Zep2 trying to gauge the size gain for the XL, did sit in some Vango’s at Go-outdoors as well to gauge headroom, just finding somewhere that has one set up to try

    🙂
You get higher quality materials, lifetime warranty against defects (2 years on Zep’s) etc etc.

Just pointing it out as it’s sort of like having the choice of an LX chainset, but for a little more cash you can have an XTR chainset.

Mine’s been water proof for 11 years. You are wandering into the realm of specialist tents with TN so can understand concern, maybe the Zep lite XL i was looking at was closer to the Laser price…..

Any of the cheap generic fibreglass poles should do, cut and shut the end poles to transfer the tips if the glass ones are wrong type. Getting the right diameter shouldn’t be too hard, or maybe a wanted ad for old tent poles.

Maybe wander over to bearbonesbikepacking website, they do single DAC poles priced on length.

The Terra Nova direct site is all RRP, not many places carry spare pole sets, so you might struggle to find them cheaper, same goes with the top end pegs.

Cougar, if your thinking of the Zep lite, also check out the Terra Nova Laser on Uttings, a small jump in price again, but a serious jump in tenting. I paid about £250 for a Laser 11 years ago, it’s still going strong.

The stub end poles can be modded by cutting in half and gluing a bit of alu/steel tube pipe onto one end as a joining sleeve.

This gets the pack size down, my TN end poles are 52cm long, way longer than the folded main pole section length.

    Enjoy 🙂

Bosses mate got done, he rented 2 hire cars, the other driver (another mate) got flashed.

Fine went straight to french hire company, who duly charged it to the bookers credit card.

Bosses mate gets credit card bill several weeks later with an additional charge for the fine from the hire company 🙂

Cue a falling out within mates.

If on a rental, cancel credit card now, never hire a car again in france, maybe never go back :0
