Used to comp shoot all over south of UK, starting again in Kent but can still cover over to the south west.
Might have a stab at the Field nationals next year or 3d champs or if Scotland hasn’t got it’s rebuilt wall up maybe a trip way up north 🙂

    Classes or styles/types of bow.

    Target is roughly
    Longbow
    Recurve/Olympic sights stablisers etc etc
Compound Unlimited, as above but a compound bow and relase aids and scope
Compound limited, like above but limits to how much gash you chuck at a bow 🙂
Cross bow……maybe don’t go there with targetGNAS/Archery GB types 🙂
Used to be a barebow bow class, so recurve with no sights.

    NFAS Field.
Freestyle, olympic recurve, sights etc etc any arrow type
Barebow, recurve with carbon or Alu arrows, no sights.
Traditonal/Hunting tackle, simple recurves, oddball bows with wooden arrows no sights.
Longbow, english type longbow, wooden arrows, no sights.
American flatbow, similar to longbow, modern take on it, wooden arrows no sights.
Compound Unlimited, no lasers but anything else you can bolt on 🙂
Compound Limited, must use a finger release of arrow and sight and extras limits.
Cross bow, recurve type only, bit like Unlimited but more menacing/cooler

Think theres a Horse bow class now as they have really taken off since i swapped mine 18 years ago for an AFB, theres even a club that does shooting on the trot on a horse 🙂

So with a target recurve bow you can do target archery and field archery, remove the sights and go into barebow, switch to wooden arrows and go into traditonal/HT so 3 classes open to you with minimal outlay….. or go N+1 and start collecting bows 🙂

Explosive ammo or just explosives was deemed unsporting and banned, not just thunder heads on arrows 🙂 or Dukes of Hazzard type antics.

Heard a term called “whumping” years ago. Poachers would go down the fish farm, with dynamite, “WHUMP” fish get stunned by shock wave, float to surface, get skimmed up and poachers leg it. Sort of smash and grab robbery poaching style.

Ex archer going back after a 15 year break 🙂

GNAS, target archery, for competiton shooting you must be in GNAS for insurance cover. It may have relaxed and less is needed if only shooting within a club and not competing in open comps or postal leagues. Ranges from 18 yards to 100 yards or 180yards for clout. Most you will shoot is 144 arrows, that will take all day.
Expect GNAS fee and club fee and subs on night/day shooting for rental of range.
Club level is mostly informal dress code.
Open competiton is very strict dress code and regimental order of shooting. It may have relaxed……

http://www.nfas.net Field archery, animal targets on large target bosses or 3d/2d targets. Club i am joining up with is £40 a year plus £20 to NFAS for insurance.
Field is more relaxed, few odd types (camo rambo comments above) open competitons revolve around a central hut/shed with tea/cake/bacon sarnies going all day.
Expect 34-40 targets set around woodland, all unmarked distance, from 3yards out to 70ish, most will be 20-50yards. Depending on the round being shot, you might do 120 shots in day + cake breaks.
No use of binox or scopes or rangefinders, wastes bacon sarnie time.
    No formal dress code.

EFAA is more target like field archery, you have black circle with white center targets and they tell you how far away it is, you can also use binox and scopes. Think they are tied in with FITA and you can get up to international shooting level and shoot for GB.

Some Longbow only groups, some fun some very victorian and quite snobby about equipment and dress code, more of period only than modern standards.

Nip down WHsmiths and look for “Bow International” magazine, only mag i know of over here in UK mostly target based articles and some FITA field, but info/ads for Archery specialist shops which will kit you out with a basic starter bow right up to maxing out a couple of your credit cards on kit.

Field and target clubs do taster sessions and beginners courses, enroll onto a course, they supply all the gear. Also second hand sales of kit within a club to consider.

Try searching for “Quicks Archery” “Bowsports” and “Merlin Archery” 3 of the larger retailers in the UK, loads of others.

I went for an informal tryout with club last weekend, i bagged several deer, a duck a fish, 3 dragons, a bear, mountain lion and a wolf 🙂 (no fluffy animals with big teeth where hurt, just expanded foam)

Couple of refs to archery and hunting in this thread.

1981 wildlife and countryside act officially stopped hunting with Bows and crossbows and arrows and explosive’s.

Being anywhere with a bow and arrows without permission from landowner is i belive called armed tresspass.

Spearguns in saltwater is ok but not all fish species are fair game.
Spearguns in freshwater/inland lakes is ilegal.

Snares in Scotland must be of a certain type that can’t entrap or harm deer, the wrong bit of brass wire loop is ilegal.

The little MORA’s are handy for UK stuff and fishing. Take some fishing gear, a handline and try catch a fish for tea, or go coastal and try the wild mussels/oysters/limpets etc etc 🙂

Fenwicks used to do little sachets of chain cleaner that where about the same size and similar glossy packing as energy gels……

Someone picked the Fenwicks by error, ripped it open, think they got part of a mouthfull down then back up again 🙂

The chain cleaner was quite fruity smelling 🙂

A really good sleeping bag or a couple of duvets.

For no worry heating, couple of heatpads, the ones that just react with air, last several hours and sort of look like a giant tea bag, they work well.

Can’t remember early ones, second hand roadster type things.

First new to me was a Grifter, little bro got a Boxer.

Had a Carlton Continental 5spd after that, and bent it shunting a car 🙂 happy days…..

Strangely having a lot of fun with an old Raleigh tempest commuter/roadie from 82 the cheapest and bestest race bike i have owned so far, and it only gets raced off road 🙂

don’t modern plumbers just use pvc pipe and push fit connectors these days ?
So old school craftmanship and blow torch soldering skills, so in modern terms thats bespoke craft, which is costly.

Reckon i could do a deal on the copper based one with pine boarding for £3000 cash plus vat and shipping 🙂

    £4800 🙂

Lets see, trade of course, budget.
Bedmakers got over a length of galv tube there, say £50-60 for pipe.
Then four top corners, looks like four short T’s and maybe four base rounds.
So about £100-120 including cutting i could knock up a bedmaker.

+bespoke handcrafting on the edge of exmoor, labour, shipping….bit of weight there.
Hmmmm… sharp intake of breathe….. if you fit it yourself, you will need a 1/4″ key for the clamps mind….. i reckon i could do for £2000 🙂 i will throw in a key for the clamps.

    🙂 they are small.

For the money, the weight, a double skin, it’s worth a punt as a first tent. You could spend loads more for worse.

£20-30 is one night solo in a B&B, you will get loads of mileage out of the tent, and if you burn it down or just wreck it, it’s no great loss and a good learning curve.

    Good move binners.

While the forum fave of owning with bombers is a bit of giggle, the reality is you could end up in way more trouble than expected.

    Understand and study the enemy.
Study the legal side of the issue, as stated in the thread already, a tip off to the correct people and it becomes a third party issue to deal with. Leaving you to watch the outfall with interest.

Go outdoors do a rebranded version in the £20-30 area, depending on sale promo and discount card holder, they have one set up in most shops so you test fit yourself.

First time that venue/track was used, Si made signing on at the start line, to make sure all riders walked the track before riding it.

Rumour was, several riders walked down with race plates and went home as it was well out of the comfort zone 🙂

    So next year then.

Rammstein headline, with Motorhead in support.

They set the stage roof on fire.
Come on stage in armour on fire.
Send lead vocal out into audience in a boat (not on fire)

Open with with “Sonne” and a 10′ tall snow white comes on stage and abuses members of the band, then shoots up some gold (watch the vid)

A group of yank bombers on route to Stan, having done loads of speed, mistake Glasto for Stan and drop naplam….

Rammstein shut it down in style and on fire 🙂

Had a quick pitch up last night.

Very roomy for 2, nice headspace, i reckon a snug 3 person.
DAC featherlite main pole and dinky mini line locks with 1.6mm guy lines.
Claimed max weight was 1870g, mine is 1862g. The standard size 2 is a claimed 1790g and the standard weight 2XL is 2180g.

Will have a proper look at the weekend, camping out just got more comfy 🙂

Kind of the reverse story for me.

Thinking about going further as the industry is changing. At the moment small fabricators (depending on actual job) don’t require ISO and coded certs for a lot of work.
    Large companies will.

I sort of fell into working for a fabricator as a part time fitter, i go out and install/fit items made.
I do the cutting/drilling and prep work, and some of the welding on smaller parts. Bit of a catch22, because i don’t do loads of welding i am not super fast so a lot of what i could do is moved onto others for costing reasons…..but a bit of training and doing more would up my skill set.
Not qualified but gaining experience and confidence and spatter burns 🙂

Without knowing what your looking at model and brand wise….

Anyway, the geo changes between current bikes and bikes several season old may or may not be a deal breaker.

If your after a big rig for smiles and used to older steeper geo then go for that.

If your after a big rig, and intend to compete in races then get the modern bike…..if you get on with the long low stance, low bb height and slack angles.

A point of research for you.
If you have contacted/enquired after a bike and have the sellers real name 🙂
Pop over to http://www.rootsandrain.com type the sellers name in and it will bring up there BC/UCI race history and also a gallery of any race photo’s.
So you might find matching images of bike for sale being raced and dates of races.
Handy little research tool there 🙂

    Absolute cheap fix/bodge.

Drill small hole at top of split/crack. This should stop it spreading.

You could whip over with thread/fishing braid line/mono filament line, tie off and glue over the top of it (look at fishing rod eyes)

Pole repair kits are out there, as are cheap glass fibre poles, you will need to know the pole diameter.
Also, know any any archers ? arrows are made by Easton in high grade alu tube, an off cut of broken shaft may be close enough if you have access to archery people….

    🙂 awesome thread

    Jota’s covered bike caravans 🙂

For £500 + fitting towpack + new car as my little 993cc car might struggle with a caravan……would consider it….. Mrs Ace would just spaff the cash on a Hilleberg instead 🙂

Just watched Combat dealers on Quest, they just put several belts of .30cal through a caravan 🙂

Doss out in them, shoot them, set them on fire, caravans are awesome until you get stuck behind one at Bridgwater all the way to Minehead 🙁

As for growing things….. a discreet caravan at the bottom of a field, with a fence round it, laundry hanging on the line, nice view of the quantocks.
Parked underneath was a couple of shipping containers, access through a trapdoor to the ganja plant below, Police reckoned about 100k a harvest.

    Love hate caravans 🙂
