It just needs a clean out.
Remove the roller from the boomarang, if you have circlip pilers then pop off the clip and the bolt should pull through.
I dont have circlip pilers and tried to pop it off with a screwdriver (worked on other things) i snapped off a prong on the circlip instead.

You should be able to lift off the outer bearing shields (2 bearings) flush out the crap and repack with grease of choice.

As the bearings are not loadbearing like a wheel or pivot it wont matter if they are still a bit rough. You can push out the bearings if you remove the bolt, they are a standard size (unlike the E13 jocky bearings) or get a new roller, about £20 last time i looked.

Cup of tea, stanley knife to pop off the shields, clean out, dry out then repack. My inboard bearing seized, flushed with wd40 and worked it free by rocking back and forth, i wouldnt do that with a wheel or pivot bearing just replace them 😀

Did mine back in 2008 and still running, bit of play now but has done all 3 fort william dh enduros and lots of dh racing and uplift days on the hardtail.

After fun with ISIS bb’s then even more fun with shimano/racface/truvativ external bb’s back in 07/08 i opted to rebuild the raceface cups, £20 for the bearings and £10 for the shop to fit them as the older cups are ment to be throwaway when the bearings are shagged. At the time the rebuild was £8 cheaper than a brandnew DH rated replacement BB.

I also smeared grease over the outer bearing shield, before sticking the extra enduro seal on top. Think it was nearly 18 months before i repacked the bearings with grease. So far longest lived BB i have had, slight play and a bit rough now but still going, another repack then ride until the play gets worse, tempted to just have it rebuilt again.
    Most happy with mine.

Its a shame in this age of recycle everything that good useable bikes get melted down.
In the past you could slip the tip-men a £5 or £10 and they would fish a bike out of the skip for you, nowdays you get shouted at if you try to look at a bike.
Some tips have a charity arrangement and keep the bikes back for recycle projects which is good.

As i understand it, the moment i release my old bike into the skip it then becomes the property of the waste company. If the person dumping the bike hands it to you first, then the waste company cant do anything about it, maybe tell you off but thats it.

Sounds like a good find Kaysee, any chance of piccy when its cleaned up and ready to roll 😀

or maybe a suspension seat post and get measured up for a new saddle, brands escape me right now, but there are some that come in different widths/lengths to fit your sit bones better.
Or maybe a Ti seat post…
Just thinking out loud like….cheaper than a whole new bike that you may well end up changing the saddle on anyway.

Not that this bit will help, i did my coccyx several years ago, it still plays up from time to time and most likely always will.
Depends how much you want to change your bike, and its a fab excuse to buy a new one 😀 “yes dear since i broke my ass i need a new bike” 😆

Along the seafront from Butlins to past the harbour will cost you, the town centre is limited spaces and busy, just have a little drive around some of the side streets, the little map link shows Parkhouse road, always parking up there, can be busy near the bottom, and from the junction to the little bike shop is free but on a time limit, park after the shop and its good all day no time limit, and from there only a 10 minute walk to the beach dodging fat drunk butlinites on the way 🙂

An odd way to jump in to this…. tom did you post on HTN about 24 hours ago then ? just trying to back track things as the forum on HTN has now been hacked.
Just trying to work out roughly when it got shut down.

I just read through this thread, went to check over on HTN and wham! hacked forum…

As to your question on Whistler, as every one else has said really, just remember not all tracks out there need the skill of a world cup racer to get down or a pro freerider, there is plenty to ride on thats not so scary, they have tracks for all skill levels, just be honest about your own ability with yourself and stay clear of the technical tracks.
If you fancy a challenge, some of us do the http://www.nofussevents.co.uk Fort William DH Enduro, thats on the world cup track, think Jesse Wigman got 4th overall last year on his beat up P2, this could be the roughest track in the UK to ride, and is still small compared to the big mountains of Canada. Oh and get insurance for riding in case you come off as they dont have the NHS out there.

Right off to find the other HTN admins and sort out whats gone on over there 😥

Dont remember chicken wire when i did it…soon after it opened.

It was wet and not bad.

However i jumped the little table on the boardwalk…. it was wet and very windy….the bog makes for a slightly smelly but soft landing when you get blown off. If its really windy dont try and get air 😀 and you cross the WC DH track just below the big wooden wallride, as i remember you have to get through a chicane, then its fireroad down to the carpark, or just ride down the motorway section of the WC track, which is in very good order right now.

    I am in 🙂

And i wont be using the death trap i took to the SSEC last year.
Tolla warned me to run a 32×16 (new to SS’ing) but the road bike i pulled out of hedge… i got it down to 42×18, not so nice on the hills.

So i see mention already of 32×16, i will try to gear down a bit this time.

Well i would have been happy with your time of 16.04 and 45th 8)

I had a lie down in the snow and only got 81st in 22.03 i reckon with gears and staying upright i could knock 5 mins off, around the 17 min mark.

    That was fun.

    1. didnt die.
    2. bagged a Munro.
    3. a bit too xc for me, flat bits and pedaling where a shock 😆
    4. didnt come last.
    5. did overtake several people.
    6. didnt break the bike (just as well its a loaner)
    7. Stunning views and sunshine.
    8. Quite liked being able to talk in the helicopter, very civilised.
    9. Cafe does a fantastic fry up.
    10. Lots of nice DH enduro nut bars there.

Yep it was pricey, but i enjoyed it a lot. I passed a chap who had a crank arm in each hand, he still got down and was smiling.

So next year then, dropper seatpost, gears would have helped a lot and practice riding in snow if we get any again next winter as i had to lie down a lot in the snow, and the slime covered rocks in the boggy bits.

Had a look on the webcams earlier, some clearer shots today of the not so snowy summit.
Settled on RainKings as they have a bit more chunky tread on them for all the pointy rocks that arent under six feet of snow.

There also some rather large drop offs so wont be taking any short cuts.
I reckon a lot will be turtle heading on the start line 😆 i might be as well, hope theres a toilet up there 😆

Say hello, i will packing a hipflask, you wont miss me one of the very few hardtails there so easy to spot.

What in Scotland in April 8) what about the midges ?

The plan so far, drive up while the royal wedding is on so the roads will be quiet.
Maybe try and have a look around, or just vist the Fort and have a pop at the witches trail then back to Glencoe and doss in the car in the car park.
It says on the resort site that the cafe opens at 9am, so sign on and go for a fry up as us downhillers are ment to be lardarses that cant ride up hills 😆
As long as the mountain dosent beat me up or break my bike, and i dont get to partyed out, i am tempted to play on the BDS track on Sunday and head home sunday night/late afternoon, its a long way to go might as well make the most of it as i am up there.
Looks like the BDS track will be open for use, but Fort Williams DH tracks dont open for another week.
I was going to head back after the race but would be daft not to grab the extra playtime.
Anyone else going for extra time or straight back to the real world ?

    ouch.
I will look for the Nicolai with very soft suspension set up and a cushion taped to the saddle.

I was expecting the “caught ball sack in linkage” or “squashed between the tyre and saddle at full compression”

    See you on Saturday 🙂

    3. Continental 2.5 undecided Rainkings or Kaisers

Got a TN Laser, had it for about 8 years, no issues at all.

With out being able to see and feel the fabric its only guess work from me now.
I assume the tent has been looked after and dried out/aired after use before repacking when you get home from your trips, being damp would cause mildew i dont see how that would make it sticky.
The fabric is sticky, have you spilt any thing on the tent ? ever ? have you been popping bottles of champagne inside 🙂 could something have leaked onto it while in storage.

Take the inner out and hand wash everything would be my first step (i have seen the price of flys)
Have you used any fabric water proofers on it ? maybe that has reacted with the fabric.
If you have used the tent lots and lots maybe the fabric is starting to break down. Mine only gets used a few times a year so it will last longer than one used ever other weekend.

Give it a gentle hand wash, see what happens would be my choice, if that fails to cure it get in touch with Terra Nova.
    Hope thats some help.

If the kids are fine at cwm carn and do the tight turns on the black run ok then they should be fine 🙂

As to the checking it out, well there is a public carpark outside the entrance and there are foot paths that run around the hill and woods, so you can walk round and stray off into the park, cant see Paul or Wayne getting the hump if you are on foot, they are up there working on the venue.
Also worth checking out is Torico’s bike shop, about 8min drive away, Ben has a cracking little pump track round the side of the shop.
If your south west based, and after uplift or race days, then Kustombikes.co.uk run uplfits near Minehead at the Avill Ball venue and Coombe Sydenham country park. Its about 2 hour drive from the bike park to Minehead.

As above really, be very track aware of other riders going fast and hitting the bigger jumps. It has some steep tight turns, the jumps can be ridden round. They have spent the winter redoing the place, havent been yet this year to look.
They have multi DH runs, did have some low level north shore to play on, think skinnys but less than 2 feet high, and some bigger stuff you have to step up (jump onto) to at speed.
They did have a Dual track (fun) and they have an NPS level 4x track (bigger fun).
Scary fast in the dry as the ground sets like concrete, scary slippery in the wet. Also the ground is flint based so avoid lightweight tyres, armour is a very good idea.
Its a nice venue, they have crammed a lot into a small space, check the race dates, worth popping down for cake and a watch, the DH races are laid back and friendly if you fancy having a go.

    Me 🙂

Dont think i have to worry about snow anymore, been looking at the webcams…unless they get another dump of snow it will be more rocky than snowy.
Think of this years event as a tester, no fuss would like to run 300 riders, so if it works out this year then the next should be bigger and better and hopefully in the snow like in the press releases.

    New here hello 🙂

This thread is what got me to sign on to STW, it has been a very good read with some excellent links and information, i like the leaning to extreme lightweight kit £££ and Lidl specials, keep up the good work.

As valleydaddy pointed out the Lidl special i sort of went into one today for a look, and bought it, for £12.99 you cant go wrong and wont cry if you burn it down.

Some random weights, i bought Mrs ace a Terra Nova laser several years ago, thats 1270grams bagged up, excellent tent.
I also have a british army poncho that i have spent many nights under, that weighs 952grams.

    The valleydaddy special 🙂
Well you get what you pay for, the poles are nasty but usable, overall tent construction seems very good, and it had a dual door of windproof or open with midge net. Hydrostatic head is 2000mm, floor size is 120cm X 190cm and it sits at 90cm highest point by door and comes with a 3 year warranty ! it has some internal pockets in the tent. Overall cant moan at £12.99 if it only lasts several trips its a good base to start from.
Rocktrail Hiking tent by Milomex Ltd (no web address anywhere on packets or manual)
    Overall Bagged weight 1600g
    Unbagged weight 1512g
Guy Ropes, Flo green x4 29g
Pegs steel 20g each. 11 supplied 217g (factor in a +/- variance on weights to uncalibrated scales and i didnt weigh each peg to check)
    Tent, single skin 777g
Poles, fibre glass shock corded, front is 2 pole A-frame with a 3rd running the spine. A-frame 207g Spine pole 274g both 481g.

I reckon with a play around you might be able to ditch the poles and use extra guy lines to hang the tent, also swapping out steel pegs to alloy or Ti or carbon as well could drop the weight down to around 1kg.
Its cheap and ripe for a starter to play with and could be bought down a fair bit in weight, quite a good impulse buy. Just have to put it up and have a look.

Thanks balfa, will go have a look at there FB page 🙂

Did have a look at an OS map yesterday as basic research.
Guessed on snow/slush/mud/melt water then mud and big rocks, saw the photos of the DH race mudfest up there.

Going for the fun, as i have never ridden there and my only run will be the race, doing blind runs is never good, although i belive we can walk the lower part of the track in the morning but not ride it.

So i reckon gear up for a mud fest then, let the locals go off first then thread my way through the carnage that follows and maybe not come last.

    Hello, new here 🙂

I have been picked as well. Debating if a Pug would be a good choice, would work on the snow, not so sure on the lower slopes/track.

Never been up to Glen Coe or ridden downmountain in the stuff, so i have no concept of what awaits us, apart from being very cold.
