Kinda thought they might have managed to work out customer service.
ebay feedback is a few years old, but thats shocking.

    Same old things.
If they where the last bike shop on the planet with the last available part i needed……still wouldn’t use them.

eskay, good luck old bean, maybe it’s in the post right NOW 🙂

    Things i was told.

I could never talk to the manager, even when i phoned back as requested.
Refunds couldn’t be done over the phone ? had to write and request it.
Refunds can only be done by certain staff who are not in at that moment, phone back later.
Refunds on cards are done at the end of the month only, you will have to wait until the end of the month (refund dosen’t happen, repeat above)
unhelpful, rude staff that actually start baiting you for a laugh, because they know your a few hundred miles away and not about to come down and vist them.
Also had “waiting on parts” be the end of the week, etc etc etc.

    I can join in too.

Used once a long time ago.

    Telephone order.
    Expected delivery within 5 days.
7 days phone up, and the fun begins….

Took 3 months to get visa to get my money back.

Lied to at the point of ordering.
Lied to everytime i phoned to chase order.
**** quick to take my money, although nothing was actually in stock that i ordered even though they stated it was.
Staff are so rude if you lived local you would go down the shop and find the little big man on the other end of the phone and demand your money back out of the till as no one is capable of doing a credit card refund until the end of the month when they do them en-masse, funny how quick they take the cash !

Pre-email days for me, so had to write letters and keep copys to send to visa to get my money back. Not a single reply.

If someone riding a Dave hinde bike burst into flames in front of me i wouldn’t urinate on them to put it out, thats there lasting legacy, the absolute worst experince of mail order i have ever had and put me off mail order for many years.

    Bunch of money grabbing barstewards.

Off to read the ebay feedbacks 🙂

Think i have the 07 world champs on a CD somewhere.

BBC coverage of that was very good…..must have a look see if i still have it.

Do sat TV cover it eurosport ? etc etc, only got freeview so don’t know.
Sometimes get the semi live online streaming, if it works.

Guess it’s just not a big enough event or mainstream telly won’t pay out to UCI.

    As aleady stated above.

Land fee’s are huge, the landowners get a serious amount of money for just letting someone use there land.

Some get greedy and just price themselves off the market.

DH race few years back down south, low entry caused the promoter to cancel the race. Cancelation fee clause came in effect. Next time he had a low entry, only 40 racers he ran the race, as it was cheaper to run at a loss than to cancel.

Going rate for marshals seems to be £40 a day in DH racing, if you don’t have enough marshals the BC rep can pull the event on safety grounds.
DH race uplift costs are linked to fuel costs.
Expect £60-70 for a weekend of DH racing. One day push up races are closer to £20-25.

The road cycling events have the exisiting Club network behind them, this dosen’t exisit in mountain biking on the same scale.
So a road sportive can keep costs down by using the local club members as marshals.

Nothing like doing a race 🙂

    Stavromuller,
You might have another war effort model on your hands.
My Paramo came about after the luftwaffe bombed the Record factory, and Paramo where instructed to make Record pattern vices.
You might have another war hero there.

Best way to go, or CAB or have a chat with your own solicitor on how to proceed.

Proper legal advice is what you need.

In the workings of this as well.

Where there’s blame there’s a claim, i am now whats called a hostile witness, and they might have decided not to let me anywhere near the hearing.

You will be asked nicely to attend a hearing, i was given an 18 day window to make myself available for, no exact date.
You will then get heavy handed letters….we would like you to attend….but if you don’t want to…..well we can just summon you and make you attend against your will anyway.
If summoned you have to attend or face possible arrest for contempt of court. They where keen to point out i would have an arrest warrant placed on me if i didn’t show up if summoned.

With out going into details on the case. 🙂

I called their bluff and pointed out i was not making a 10-12 hour drive + fuel + day off work etc etc.
Forced the issue of you want me, serve me a summons.

In the case of the “where’s there’s blame there’s a claim” solictors having to summon a witness, they have to pay the court to summon you.

I belive the process was called “N20 form” once under a summons you have the right to seek a pre-hearing audience with the Judge, if they agree with you not being there, the judge can overturn the summons.
If the judge requires you, then you foot the bill for the summons against you and the audience with the judge fee as well.

In short i am digging my heels in, because i am being bullied into attending so someone else and there “no win no fee” legal eagles can line their own pockets 🙂

    If it’s a CPS case, don’t ignore a summons.
Civil case’s seem to operate on request, if you say no they can summon you. If summoned don’t ignore it. From what i am getting, bullying a witness to attend is the cheap choice.

Citizens advice can help with info (if you can actually get in to talk to anyone)

Don’t go into details on what your being requested for.

You will be a “witness of fact” you should get expenses, the ones trying it on with me have made no mention of any incurred expense by me for getting to their hearing being paid back.

An “expert witness” is someone who is an expert in the field of the case being heard. They set there own fee and expense rate with the legal team calling them. They get paid lots, you should get petrol money !

    I haven’t heard back, yet !
I don’t know if the case will be heard or chucked out, i have no idea how much money is being claimed (keen to find that out)
It may go to a later hearing date and i might still get summoned.

Boils my piss, shady where’s there’s blame make a claim shysters cluttering up courts who could be spending time locking up real criminals.

Jesse didn’t struggle much with his rigid spesh P2, knocked out 12 back to back laps at the Fort.

I just minced down on an SX Trail 🙂

From chatting to the riders that raced on air sprung 6″ travel bikes, they where all happy, admitted the bikes where maybe a bit light duty for prolonged abuse.
Everyone i spoke too had a daft grin, and the phrase “on the edge of the bikes limits” was used a few times.

I lean more to DH so went SX Trail, coil sprung, beefy frame. Bit of a slug for long xc.
If your more xc/trail go Enduro, it will cope with some DH duty but it’s more All mountain/trail/xc built.

If your wanting to race DH, then a DH bike will be nicer.

    Seaview hotel 🙂

Hope it’s changed since i was last there few years back.
Couldn’t get in the “hotel” but got a room in their recent addition of the old pub across the road…….

    Yeah…..
Hopefully it’s been gutted and refurbed, the floor boards nailed to the floor, unlike the ones in our room which moved the bed everytime someone went down the corridor to the toilet (no ensuite)
Hopefully they have put the missing step back in the wooden staircase.

Went across the road for evening meal and breakfast, food was good, background music seemed to be something like a mystic/romantic/movie score/american disney land album of scottish muzak stuck on loop.

Did the old hotel that was fenced off down by the quay ever get demolished or fixed up ? that must have been nice once.

Made me think of the Falklands when i visted 🙂

My 4 hour parking ticket wasn’t enough, had to leave or be clamped.

F….ing hell was it packed, even the paramedic had trouble wading through the crowd ( i assume it was a bit much for someone)

Being from the country side, watching city hipsters was fun 🙂

It was a fab show, very busy, missed some stuff because of the volume of people you couldn’t get close to some things.

Oyster was brilliant, BTR in the room next door, seemed to be a fair bit of build you own type stands too, which is what i was looking for.
Picked up some Boneshaker mags and a hipster fixed mag 🙂

Saw some fantastic bikes, got some info from Reynolds and TBA, parking time ran out and was too busy for me so slinked off and had a Bacon Avacado from the little snack shack near Mud-Dock…..hmmm i like visting Bristol, don’t like the parking charges.

Good show, finished the day off at the now mudfest that is round 1 of the BDS at Combe Syd.

Been using a Denbeigh pnumatic press this afternoon followed by a session with a Herbert pillar drill, the boss reckons rolls royce of pillars 🙂

Worked with timbermills for a few years, the sheer amount of 50 year old equipment still in service (stenner saws) in smaller yards, you just can’t buy the solid quality.
Some of these old drills and equipment will long outlast us and live on in sheds 🙂

Did my direct access test about 12 years ago,

Partway round the test i had to pull over and wait for the examiner to catch up. I could not hear instructions over the radio, chap had a play around, no real difference, we carried on, i passed 🙂

At the start i was told any bike or radio issues to safely pull over and await the tester to catch up, was still crapping myself i would fail for stopping mid test, but they kind of expect it i assume.

Then it was signal issues and battery issues, as the battery pack ran down the radio dropped in performance (no battery charge indicator)so it was quite possible to have a working set but battery failure part way round.
May be urban myth….you might pick up mini cab radio instead 🙂

    Sounds like nothing has improved.

Been drinking and thinking (never a good combination)

Will have to research my Paramo.

But….if it wasn’t for Hitler having the record factory bombed.

Then Paramo would never have made my vise/vice.

Which in turn may have been used to build Spitfires or Tanks
That in turn would have sorted out Hitlers Third Reich.

So my vise/vice is a by product of the Third Reich that was used to defeat them.
So thats proper history, which means Paramo are cooler and worth a squillon pounds on ebay 🙂
Unless it was post war production then forget everything i said and not selling anyway 🙂

Just checked out mine, not a record.

Paramo No 3 hi-duty made in England, bit of a rusty shade of blue, could do with a clean up but working fine.

    EDIT.

Bit of google-fu, i now know why my Paramo looks like a Record……during the war the record factory was bombed 1940, as vises where needed for the war effort and Britain could not afford to have a vise shortage Paramo where set to make Records while Record shorted itself out.

Being serious though, wide range of bikes from DH rigs to brakeless BMX being ragged round the quarry. Sunny and dusty.

Still a work in progress and the builders where keen to hear feedback from riders, some work still to do, the cross junction tunnel still to be installed, some corners to be bermed. Talk of ongoing track refreshment, so every now and then things will be added and altered.

Talk of possible short track time trial eventing/racing in the future.
Should be running along the lines of membership/club rather than an open trail center.
Today was an open day to gauge riders response and feedback, i think it went down very well.
Facebook page should be up and running in a week’ish, they said to search for “Grasby MTB Club” i took some photo’s and will forward them on so they can use them if they wish on FB

Fair bit of space to add extra lines and skills area, might even make me fitter 🙂
Best find some xc tyres and wheels for the KM now, tempted to have a stab at a time trial.

    Bit of a P.S.A.

Lidl are doing that Rocktrail 2 man tent again, in blue this time.

Saw it on this thread ages ago and bought a green one, went past a Lidl today and they have them again.
    2000mm Hydrostatic head, single skin, 1.5kg, 2 person, £15ish.

Cheap, the door has a flyscreen so should be more midge repellant than a bivi bag/basha/tarp.
Steel pegs, spare guideline in mine, well packed in a zippered pouch, ditching the pouches/spare bits changing the pegs should bring it down to 1.2-1.3kg. Fairly compact pack size, nice size for a single person and gear.

Seen them crop up in the background in pictures on here so a few on here got them last time round.

Charlie best bet for a quick service.

Not 100% sure they retail alone though, can’t find them in the Ison book or Surly catalogue. Could be they are only included with new frames and not a carried stock item by Ison the importer.

Again Charlies the man to talk to, he might have some as he does sell rather a lot of Surlys, and having just moved shop might have found some in box wedged down the back of the coffee machine 🙂

Failing that a wanted ad on here might turn up a set, or just try some cheap thin chain tugs instead.

The stuff i used, think it was holts tyre weld, the gas and foam/sealant is in the one can. Never bothered trying but you can get a MTB kit.
Not really anything to go wrong, no compressor to plug into the fag lighter, no valve core removal or trying to pour in sealant first then trying to inflate. Just screw on the can, inflate and seal in one hit in a few minutes.

Without sounding rude, if it is a compressor kit, show your Mum how to operate it, same with seal n flate/tyre weld.
Put some in Mrs Aces car, she can’t get the wheel nuts off so even with a spare she phones the RAC for help, at least with tyre weld she could do a quick fix if possible, limp the car to the nearest services and then wait for a rescue.

The garage that replaced mine, said the sealant reacts with the tyre and renders fixing not possible, i asked if the tyre could just be tubed instead, again not doable. There could be an element of Health and safety rules to this. As you would expect the inside of the tyre was coated in sealant, and it had gone off/dried out, the excess had formed into little rubber like marbles which caused a bit of wobble at speed.
Think it’s around £8 a can, quick and simple and cleaner than swapping a tyre on the motorway 🙂
Oh and the safety bit, your supposed to change the tyre fairly soon in case the sealant fails. As i had a spare wheel, and another can… i drove from Somerset all round western Scotland and back, and had a few months use of the tyre before the sealant failed, then it was a slow puncture, swiftly followed by new tyre.

Have used Tyre weld, good stuff.

Only any use for nail or screws popping the tyre, a gashed side wall it won’t fix.

Dead easy to use, take off valve cap, screw on can hose, empty can into tyre, it put my little R13s up to 50psi, drive carefully to nearest safe place, recheck tyre pressure, had to let mine down to 30psi, and off you go if it’s sealed up.

It will render the tyre useless as garages won’t repair or tube up a tyre thats been “tyre welded” thats what they told me.
Also it will affect the balance of the wheel, mine wobbled at motorway speeds.
Got 3000 miles before it went flat again 🙂

It works, but has limitations, would use it again, but replacement tyres are cheap for the little car i have now, so faced with writing off a tyre or trying to change to the spare one on the hard shoulder before being scooped up by a dozing trucker……tyre weld everytime

Yunki, thats Chris Jones, he races at Gawton and Tavistock woods when he is able to.
Top fella, bit of a surfer too, also in the process of developing a XC and DH hand cranked trikes.

The photo appears to be Tavistock woods, he is most looking forward to running larger wheels, over the 20″ wheeled rigid trike he is running now, he also knocked out a charity 26mile run over Dartmoor last year on it as well.

Was Lynx now changed to Merici ( i think, maybe spelt that wrong) oh and in that photo he is using the single brake (Magura HS33)as he has to take a hand off the crank/steering to grab the lever, also note below his left hand braking, is the gear shifter for the right hand.

This is not one of his bikes, he bought it, decided he could do better and has set about designing and doing his own thing, but the rigid steel framed 20″ is pretty Niche, he dosen’t have a beard 🙂
