I had a switchblade years ago and really liked it ….
until a friend of mine directly in front of me failed on a medium size drop and crashed on the chinguard of his switchblade….the guard collapsed, the foam inside popped out and the sharp edged plastic caused a 2 inch cut on his cheek…..
..since that experience and seeing the scar and the stitches.. I decided to wear a regular giro (xen)..being aware of the risk or an speci deviant…..
apple online store usa tried to charge my card…transaction was blocked by the card company and card is now cancelled…last CRC order was just a few days before…
never had anything to do with apple stores or itunes…
I have a swinger 4way…since 2005..first it was on my freerider for 3 years …now its on my orange 5 ..with nukeproof ti spring..
I´m really happy with it , works perfect and very reliable !!
as far as I know..manitou had some problems with QC and tolerances..
so there are good ones and really bad ones on the market…
luckily I got a good one…
if the frame is fine ..I would give it a go….
since 2005 I´m running a 24″ rear wheel on my (meanwhile old) freerider..
really liked the swampthings for the muddy rides , and the 2.7 highroller 60 for dry trails with roots and rocks..
for some time I was running a schwalbe big betty in 24″..was very good, rolls easily and has enough grip..as long as it is not too muddy..
don`t know if these are still available
last year I had some problems with a frame I ordered from CRC…
two emails later it was sorted…they changed the used frame for a new one and added a discount on my next purchase….
it couldn`t be any better…perfect service..another happy customer
used to ride a patriot 66, which is now hanging on the wall… a year ago I wanted to go for a new frame and had to decide what comes next….
tried a nomad for 2 days but ..for me .. it didn`t feel right, and I wanted to go for another orange..
so the 160 was at first my favorite..but for mostly riding it in the alps, and for the sweaty hours of seated climbing..I finally decided for the 5..and didn`regret it for a second !
run it with 160mm lyrik and an old manitou swinger coil shock with ti spring..and it is fantastic..light enough for the long ups..and strong enough for the rough…
for more lift assisted riding like PS or verbier the 160 would maybe a bit better..but for the type of trails around chamonix and exploring new trails between unknown (for me) summits and valleys the five is just perfect….
no pictures right now…
but it works fine..
had a cut-out section of an old maxxis tyre before, with zip ties..as on my other bikes…but finally couldn`t resist to have a “nice” solution on my 5..
also had an heckler..
now an 2010 five…with similar robust build….and lyric u-turn..
perfect !!
a months ago I changed the RP23 to an (older,well used) manitou swinger 4-ways with ti-spring…what a difference…real fun !!
after several winters with nokian spikes I would seriously recommend spikes on front and rear..
if it is really icey traction and predictability are much better !!
just came back from a 3 hours ride with a good friend of mine..
she is still riding her 1991 YETI ULTIMATE,
accutrax fork,campagnolo mtb-parts,factory turqouise powdercoat..
complete bike is original as I build it for her back then…
(except tires,chain and brakepads)…
ash…the trail is called besame mucho and starts near “bad herrenalb”,
there are some more trails like this around there..
if you want I sent you more details by mail..
will be back in this region soon..
