just had a short look on the link from jonny panic above..
seems to be right what they said on eurobike..
the part no 3, RW AXLE, is always the same partnumber ….4635S
    for 135 OR,
    for 10mm thru axle,
    for 12mm thru axle,
    even for the 142mm/12mm axle,
so same axle for all standards..

    only talked about the 440..
they said all new 440 hubs are fitted with the 12mm bolt trough axle, even if ordered as QR version..
seems to be different for their other hubs..
anyway.. if I go back to OR, which is not very likely, I`ll keep the 12mm axle..

at eurobike dt swiss stated that all newer rear hubs are easily convertible to different axle standards by simply changing the end caps,
because all newer ones have the 12mm bolt through axle as standard…
except the special downhill hubs with 165mm ..
on my old hügi fr (now 440) rear hub I wanted to change from QR to maxle, so had to change to the new 12mm standard axle..
for the way back now it is only necessary to change to the QR end caps according to dt swiss..

2010 Five with old (2005) manitou swinger 4 ways and ti spring ..very good !!
my favourite set up is with u-turn lyriks, I really like slack head angles..
but pikes are perfect for the woods , if lyriks are swapped to my other bike

    had a heckler for 3 years ..
at first with pike ..was quite good…later with an older marzoc 150mm freeride, with longer axle-to-crown length, and for me it was much better…but for the long climbs in the alps the seatangel felt a bit slack…
for this reason I changed 2010 to a five..ticks all boxes for me ! perfect..
but still loving the heckler, ..the frame gets a rest right now..couldn´t give it away so far
I think the heckler will vanish soon from the santa cruz range..

    2009 in the alps…

neilnevill…right, measurements on the diagram are not absolutely exact, I think it is to cover up tolerances..
as I started making my spacers I used aluminium, and I made my first one too long ..and the second one too loose, the third one was made with the spring at hand the result was a proper one in steel, 10mm long and perfect fit..I used loctite to fix it on the spring..and since that time it just works..
    note..the diagram shows a 12mm spacer..
I think I have another diagram, if I find it I will sent it to you..

Does adding the spacer not just increase the axle-to-crown length but retain 160mm travel? Whilst it indicates 170 on the u-turn stanchion do you still only get 160mm travel, but the benefits of a slacker head angle? Also, have you had any issues with spring binding?

no…the u-turn springs of he old 160mm lyriks have actually around 180mm travel before being fully compressed…even the x-firm spring..
so the spacer gives real 10mm more travel..
ride the spacer mod since nearly 2 years without probs..
no binding of the spring and no clunk noise at top out on mine..

nothing changed, still have my old u-turn spring and function 125 to 170mm…
only thing is ..with more travel now the spring is a bit harder, needs a bit more “load” to compress completely..so I would like to try a softer u-turn spring..soft instead of medium..
found this drawing on another forum…(borrowed pic again)
just shortened it a bit, shown is 12mm…would`t recommend anything longer than 10mm !!.made mine in steel not alu and used loctite to fix it on the rod….

old lyriks 2009 and earlier..had the same casting as the domain with 180mm ..so no problem for 170mm with all lyriks
    I have my 2008 u-turn lyrik travelled with an 10mm spacer ..so 170mm now…
no changings on the damper side necessary..
if there is a klonk at top out you just turn the u-turn knob in a bit (half winding max) and it should be gone…

the pic (borrowed) shows a too long spacer (15mm)but gives an idea…

but I think to really get the best out of the area you have to be a bit anally retentive, plan loads and dig around for trail recommendations, that’s half the fun

    so true!

    absolutely !!
and now and then getting lost..even with all these maps and research…
    ..fantastic..!
    looking forward to september ….

its some time ago now..but for nearly seven years we spent every christmas there…we rented a big house with no comfort…and stayed there for 10 days, for mates and friends the house was always open, there were invited to stay as long as they want …so we had very good times there..
and lots of riding…nearly every day we went out to search new trails..we were just looking for the next “fireroad” leading into the mountains and started there..
    fantastic scenery and landscape !!
the only problem is that some trails or small roads lead to private property ..in this case we learned that it is wise to go back and take another way…so if you see the sign “chemin privee” or “privee” its better to change direction…
I will see if I can find some of the old maps with the notes …

angels seem to be common with HA 67,SA 73…on the 301
the 601 is different so, slacker HA, no pivot arms on the toptube
but both looks kind of “german”…

especially small companies with a small number of stuff should have a generous and excellent handling for their few warranty issues…
the best, cheapest and most efficient pr they can get..

but really can recommend this bit of tyre on the downtube..
i´m using an old downhill tube and it avoided two times a serious damage…

    +1 for Sodajim…

was tempted …but, as difficult as it was, decided to wait until the first batch is out of the trails…
seems that it was a wise decision,
I had an “issue” with my blue pig from the first batch, and even with perfect warranty service from CRC, –thanks again !- it was really annoying..but at least not dangerous…

its still on my wishlist…but I´ll wait until problems are solved…

was riding the last 9 years with a lupine nightmare halogen light…
    nightrides, commuting, several crashes…
it was expensive..but worth every single penny
now it is time to change to LEDs..
decided to go for trout´s LIBERATOR….will order it as soon as I´m back from the alps…
