    Sounds good. Do you do this by selecting the saved track and then selecting TracBack?

    If you upload a route and select navigate it will tell you the bearing and distance to the next waypoint. If you upload a track how do you follow the track? Do you try to make the little arrow stay on the line on the map display?

    Just pointing out the differences here. Please don't take is as a personal attack on whichever unit you own.

    The Geko and Etrex H don't do mapping the Legend HCX does and it has a colour display which displays the topo maps properly It's easy to read in sunlight and has longer battery life than the monochrome model it replaced.

    The Geko and Etrex H do 125 waypoints per route the Legend HCX does 250. I find this feature very important. Your mileage may vary.

    The Geko doesn't have the high sensitivity receiver. It will lose signal in woods and deep valleys. I own the Legend CX and it does this.

    H=high sensitivity C=colour X=micro sd card slot

    Barometric altimeter and magnetic compass on the higher models reduce the battery life when turned on and I don't really see the benefit

    They all do GPS altitude. Do you need the greater accuracy of a barometric altimeter?

    What happens if it rains and the battery runs flat after a couple of hours and you can't read it in sunlight and you can't get a handlebar mount though.

    Garmin etrex legend hcx

    Look at the number of waypoints per route before you buy. 250 is barely enough.

    free topo mapping but it does require 170MB mapping memory (micro sd card)

    Sorry I'm being a bit dim. What do you mean all help should apply in person?

    Perhaps I didn't find the best bits but I found the trails a bit wide and straight. Some big climbs and very picturesque. One of the other blokes I went with liked it but it wasn't really my cup of Yorkshire tea.

    I found this video. Do you think it sums the area up?

    Now I get it. It's an attempt to recreate the tank traps found in the first world war. I guess Kitchener's army were trained in building them when it was a WW1 army camp. Next time they have a dig day I will assist by burying some sections of railway lines sticking up out of the trail. On a blind corner obviously.

    Cynical
    The picture in on one for the LX rear is of a centre lock front 585 which if it was a rear would be the Y-3CO so I don't think its the same.

    Kendal
    Yes they do share the same parts. in the Shimano documents it lists the 555 and 570 LX as having the same part number as the 752 and 756 XT. Last time I managed to buy the whole hub for the same price as the freehub and got new skewer cones, seals and bearings thrown in. Shimano prices have gone up a lot and now it is a lot more to buy a complete hub than the freehub body unless you can find one (perhaps a non disc) reduced.

    I'm not an expert on this so it would be nice if someone else could confirm whether what I am saying is right/wrong

    Ah so they had you digging the ditches on the off camber corners to get the wheels stuck in then. Shame I wasn't there to help.

    these might be different
    580 = Y-3C0 98010
    585 = Y-3C0 98010
    760 = Y-3CO 98010
    765 = Y-3CO 98010

    these ones should fit.
    555 = Y-3BD 98010
    570 = Y-3BD 98010
    752 = Y-3BD 98010
    756 = Y-3BD 98010

    Hagg side next to ladybower reservoir in the peak district. It used to be a lovely fast descent until they did this. Don't let it put you off going though because there are tons of other trails in the vicinity.

    Has anyone done this bit of trail since the works have been completed? What is it like now?

    Houns – I find myself strangely attracted to your halfords bike. It looks gorgeous.

    Don’t look at it as a bad thing. Embrace the opportunity to get an upgrade. (Rockshox Tora or Recon or Marzocchi MX if you aren’t spending much)

    I had Axel comps a few years ago. They flexed to the point where the tyre rubbed on the arch and then failed locked solid. the bottom had broken off a plastic bit and allowed oil to drain to the bottom resulting in hydraulic lock.

    I know all there is to know about the crying game
    I’ve had my share of the crying game
    First there are kisses, then there are sighs
    And then, before you know where you are
    You’re sayin’ goodbye

    There you all were ogling it and then some one chirps up its a halfords bike and the thread suddenly goes silent.

    Not that it’s a forum full of bike snobs or anything like that but I wonder if anyone will own up to buying one from halfords

    I’ve got an Albert sport 2.25 on the front. It’s quite big volume seems fairly light weight clears mud better than I expected and has given me more confidence in the corners. I’ve never had anything decent to compare it with though.

    My lad did the red route at Sherwood pines when he was 8. It isn’t difficult and I think that’s why people complain. If it’s rained a lot it can get muddy in places. the only real danger is the off camber corners but if you slow down they are fine. If you want something more technical go to the peak district. For most riders, Sherwood pines will be enjoyable but if you’ve spent a lot of time on steep rocky stuff then you might find it a bit tame.

    I think you will find that plenty of advice has been offered to the FC from the likes of Adey and Gravy but it has fallen on deaf ears. I started my website to organise people into a group. It’s easy for you to criticise the criticisers when you don’t know the politics but I wouldn’t say that providing a load of signposts F.O.C. after the first lot got stolen was what can be described as “moan and winge at other peoples work”

    I would gladly give up some weekend time to improve those off camber corners but I’m not doing it on my own and there’s no point asking other people to help and approaching the FC unless I have a reasonable user list.

    If you don’t like it post some comments on my forum. http://www.sherwoodpines.yolasite.com

    If I can get enough people saying the same thing, the FC might pay attention.

    The blue trail excuse is a load of tosh. I don’t think they spent anything on the blue / green trails because 90% uses the existing fire roads. I think most of the 300k was spent on lighting and parking meters in the car park.

    The underlying problem is a lack of user involvement.

    Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice piece of single track and worth a visit if you live in the area but it could have been much better.

    This looks like a steal. I’ve seen one in the flesh and it looks really good on its small built in display but I haven’t seen the output on a big screen yet.

    The slope is the Tangent of the angle.

    Slope is rise/run, and the % grade is 100 times the slope. So a slope of 1/1 would be a 100% grade, which is indeed a 45 degree angle.

    So if you know the degree of the angle, just enter it into your scientific calculator then hit Tangent.

    The Tangent of 39 degree angle is:
    0.809784

    That is the slope, now multiply by 100 to get the % grade.
    80.9784 %

    I think Cannock follow the dog is 6-7 miles per lap and Sherwood pines Kitchener is 9-10 miles ish. If you go off piste then your mileage may vary. I think Cannock will be longer when phase 2 is open.
