    The Adventure Company.

They use friendly experienced guides and are good at avoiding the tourist hordes. My dad has done 3 trips with them inc. Killi and is booked for a 4th in October!

It was just an odd thought that popped into my head. Not sure what triggered it. No alcohol consumed yet today! Probably the tyres or chainset would be bottom of the list for me.

When u run it on the rear which way do u have the rotation? As labelled on the tyre or reverse it?

    Thx

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has posted info in this thread. I’ve now got oruxmaps running on my low end handset and am loving it. Used it twice this weekend and i didn’t know it was possible before this thread. Thanks!

In the trade they are known as frumptons chafe plate or the wifes knatterjack.

Easily replaced with a Thompson half crab shell if needed.

Ignoring my poor selection choices, the weather and the abandons really had an impact on this race in a way we haven’t seen in a grand tour for years.

Mid table for me and about right. wish I had included some Columbians!

    Great stuff!

There was a bike show podcast about wheel building that said the same thing. Good wheels make a huge difference!

    What is your budget?

I have those forks and they are great. I’ve been impressed with what they cam deal with. They will definitely cope red runs. However I am a relative beginner so don’t have a lot to compare them with.

Is it a 6 bolt or centre lock disc? Your LBS should be able to fit a replacement.

@dickyboy. Actually it will, albeit only momentarily. That’s why we have to have leap years, to keep everything in check due to people skimping on washing.

I’ve got the raleigh one you can get cheap from ebay and can’t fault it. I have the same forks as u and they work a treat, although I’ve not had to go up to mega high pressure as i am average weight.

For anyone going to the PDS or after then have a look at WildBike – Morzine

Great chalet which is close to the lifts too

    What brand is it?

For the shimano ones you can look up the part numbers on their exploded diagrams on their website I think.

Not sure about the main limit screws but I think that the b limit screw for shimano you need an M4 * 12mm screw which you can buy from a hardware store.

Looks like GT85 is the winner then. Glad I can stick with what i lov, or not as it’s teflon

Yes, most road bikes accept a 28c. It’s generally the top size for road frames and in the UK is a very sensible choice!

It’s what some of the pros will be running over the cobbles in the spring classics too

Depending on when you want to go take a look at Wildbike – Wildbike Morzine trip

It’s a MTB specific chalet with lock up, bike wash etc and the chap that runs it knows the area well too if you want any pointers on lifts or routes. Also has a hot tub for post ride therapy!

I’ve ridden with them in the UK and had an absolute blast

Hope you have a fantastic time out there, it’s awesome

black bash guard, depending on crank colour.

I always like to match chain with cassette, mech brands. I think they get on better, although it’s probabaly all just in my head. Shimano over sram on a good day.

    That would be awesome!

Take a look at htis canal route planner – Water Explorer

Put in your proposed route and it will give you distance, no. of locks and time to complete.

If you are riding the towpaths then go tubeless or have some tire sealer running to battle all those thorns!

Are you just looking for traffic free or is the quality of the riding more important?

The offical route is mostly traffic free but is very casual as it’s on old railway lines. It’s a nice route to do with any the family/ less active cyclists. That here – http://www.sustrans.org.uk/what-we-do/national-cycle-network/long-distance-rides/england/devon-coast-to-coast%5B/url%5D

For a more off-road challenge then I think a quality evening with the OS maps is in order! I can certainly imagine there must be a fantastic route taking in the best parts of Dartmoor & Exmoor you could plot.

+1 for the wellgo V8 copies. They are a great pedal, pretty weather tight and easy to service.

Also you can buy extra pins on ebay and can go for the longer ones if you are looking for more grip (and have shins of steel!)

On the shoe side to keep it cheap any skate shoe will be fine. To make it cycling specific add in some stiff plastic under the insole for less floppiness when pedalling. I’ve no idea if this will work but it might make you feel better, lol

Are you looking to buy new wheels for this?

I have an old bike with similar dropouts at the back. I do use a quick release wheel in it and it is generally ok but if you put extreme force through the cranks, (say standing up on pedals on a hill) then the rear can slip out of alignment as I’ve not been able to fully tighten the QR down.

What is your rear width between the drop outs? For me this is an old frame that I’ve spread slightly to take a 135mm wheel. That is the root of the problem for me I think.

Overall day to day is fine though.

Converting you current wheel to QD is possible as Will said but probably not worth the palavar

    Hi Dickie

I’d definitely recommend taking a look at WildBike Morzine Trip

They know the area well and I expect they would be able to strike the sort of balanced route you are looking for. I’ve ridden with them in the UK and had a fantastic experience

The chap that runs it is active on here I think so I expect he can give you more info if you are interested

I’m super excited as I’ve going to be doing it for the first time this year.

Does anyone have any recommendations for accommodation in Morzine for the event?

We’re going to be taking our own bikes over so ideally looking for somewhere with safe storage for them.
