Hmm, for 20 years my ‘main commute route’ has been on the A50/a511. It has a limit of 70mph for stretches. I am not belligerent nor do I have a death wish. The surrounding roads are single carriageway with a 60mph limit but cars drive at speeds that match the dual carriageway. But, these roads have less room so drivers try to squeeze you.
I said to people before, if you had the chance to drive on a badly laid surface, where you are forced to stop every mile or so, where you NEVER had right of way, where broken glass and dog shit littered the way, lampposts randomly placed in you lr way, would you choose to use it? The answer is No, only an idiot would choose that.

At my place of work we have hot decking. Me leaving my fire warden gilet on the chair I mostly use does not mean it’s ‘my’ chair. The early arrives have the pick of the desks. Same principle. Get by the pool at 5am. Knock yourself out and lie where you want.
Im not going to shove someone off a lounger. But if it’s clearly unoccupied then it’s mine….

By accepting that a towel is a valid claim on ownership of the lounger we are allowing the problem to continue.
As Zammo said. “just say no”

I have, in the past, moved a towel from a lounger and put it on the floor. Then, put my towel on the lounger and lay on it.
Then, when, the owner of the towel turned up I politely told them where I’d put the towel as I assumed it had been left their by accident. My wife cringes at my behaviour, but I think I’m being helpful. 😆

    Unpaid leave,
Having said that, I buy extra leave and keep some ‘spare’ for exactly this kind of eventuality

I had an Orange R8. Pre ordered it, was really looking forward to it as it was, on paper, exactly what I wanted at that time.
I felt it was really detached. Didn’t feel nice, no spring to it. Didn’t corner nicely, seemed to just want to go in straight lines.

    Nice colour though.

To be honest, I think a state funded school with a religious aspect is the least of our worries with the academy agenda. BUT, I honestly think that with tax payers money paying for free schools with their own agendas to push then a voluntary aided or cofe school is nothing to get too worked up about. Plus, statistically, cofe schools perform better than community schools if I remember correctly. Plus, who doesn’t want diversity??
(having said that, I did suggest removing the religious criteria from vc schools on my patch a couple of years ago but was shot down by our solicitors/elected members).

Woop, if the panel rules in your favour it WILL NOT be, in fact cannot be, one of compassion. If you appeal, the clerk should explain to you the very limited reasons why an appeal can be allowed.

My rather grumpy post above was meant in terms of, whether or not a child at the allocated school has to take part in collective worship or education has no bearing on the decision to refuse school A.

Seems an odd decision by the council if the Catholic school is not undersubscribed. Have a word with the council I reckon you’ll get a satisfactory resolution.

How so? It’s application of the criteria and this child vs all others who have applied.

It could be the NO-ONE got in on religious grounds (unlikely , I know).

How do the above posts help?
    Or is it just venting?

You’ve been offered a VC school, you can turn the offer down and find a community school further away.

The LA has met it’s duty by offering a school.

Ask them why they’ve released the decisions early when the School Admissions Code says 16th or first working day after.

Panel members like this kind of procedural error ime.*

*it might not be enough to win the appeal however

    aa

Well, a really quick glimpse tells me that the LA haven’t followed their own policy in that

Information regarding the school place offered will not be given out before 16 April 2016. If you are on
holiday when the offer letters are sent out, no special arrangements will be made to give information out to
    parents/carers before 16 April 2016.

which is a crack I’d try and exploit.

A panel might not care however as the Code says on or aroundthe 16th, Bolton clearly says not before the 16th.

The OSL is the waiting list. I’d be asking where are you on it, what’s the drop out rate for the school. LA will not know how many kids wont take up the place but they’ll have an historic picture.

If the PAN is 30 then it’s really difficult to win an appeal (but not impossible – ive lost a few). There are ‘excepted pupils’2.15 of the School Admissions Code, panels should only agree places in exceptional limited circumstances.

Your best hope is to try for procedural error by LA or Admitting Authority (if academy or OAA)

You’ll also want to know where the line was drawn and where you are in relation to that.

As you can tell, I don’t give a crap about the pro/negative position of church schools. It’s an argument where opinions are polarised. My personal opinions are irrelevant. But I see both sides of the arguments in appeals…… 😉

Panels, certainly in this part of the world, are likely to have pro church types on them.

Maybe, and if womp or any individual wanted to employ that tactic then good luck (and please, please let me know how you got on).

I’m trying to offer constructive advice based on first person experience.

    That’s all.

But, I repeat, going into an appeal and approaching it from a negative perspective will probably not help you win and is likely to antagonise the panel.

    Womp,

    what LA is it?

Where was the catholic school in your order of your list of preferences?

Where are you on the OSL for the community school (if you applied)

What is the Planned Admission Number for the community School.

    Look at both schools policies.

You have your views on the religious aspect, others have theirs. To go into an appeal and effectively say “I think religion is stupid” is in no way going to help your cause.

The simple fact is that the Church has it’s (rightful) place in this country provided education places. You might not like it but the bickering here is not going to change the fact that it exists and will continue to way beyond our lifetimes.

Can I ask how you got your decision today.

I assume it’s for a place in reception. National offer day isn’t until Monday so your result is a tad premature 😯

I had a similar experience to trail_rat on the A50 in Leicestershire. Dual carriageway, copper drove next to me, wound down passenger window and told me it was illegal to ride on dual carriageway and that I should be on the cyclepath (there isn’t one at that particular point). We had a bit of an argument. He told me point blank to get off.
I tried to complain to the force but, apparently, they have no idea who was driving and I couldn’t see his number.

That Michell has been on my wishlist for a long time. With 2 young children though it will have to wait. Gorgeous looks, gorgeous sound, my friend used to sell them. Mine is an Old systemdek. A linn beater many say. I preferred it when I heard it next to an lp12. Stantons and technics have come and gone, I wish I’d kept a 1210/1200 though.

Having never been without a turntable since the age of about 10 I simply have the joy of discovering records I forgot I had. Recently I dug out some obscure southern American hip hop. Gigolo Tony and some break beat albums.

I have sympathy with the op.

Last summer a wizened old clubman cruised past me. I asked if I could sit on his wheel for a bit, he said yes, so I tucked in until we went our separate ways.
A few nights later I was the overtaken, the guy then dug in real deep to come past me. He was clearly up for the race until the flat became an incline at which point he blew his tits. Mamil tits….
It ain’t a race (unless it is).

I for a La dealing directly with Academies (and maintained schools). So, my perspective may not be representative of everyone’s.
In my particular patch, Schools who have academised and then age range changed – we have historically had primary, high, Upper, have struggled to attain the high Gcse results that happened previously. There are also schools that are really struggling with numbers and must be teetering on the brink of viability. A studio school has already closed. With the need for improved Gcse results schools are, let’s say, becoming selective over the children they would like to admit.
the Mat approach seems to work better, but in the main, it’s my experience that schools who turn into Academies are not doing better.

I’m not proud to say that once, riding along a straight bit of road, a youth approached from a side road. We made eye contact, he pulled out, then stopped. He should have waited as he had approached the t-junxtion. If he had accelerated I could have steered behind him, but, he pulled out just to block my way. So, I skidded to a halt next to the drivers door. Asked him what the **** he was doing to which he just shrugged. So, I punched him through his open window.
I then rode off as fast as I could through a pedestrian precinct.

Ive also had ‘banter’ with a ldv van full of builder types at an m1 junction also.

I wouldn’t say I’m an angry type either. Late last summer as I’d ridden down the middle of a 7 mile traffic jam I heard someone shout ‘you **** can’t. I chuckled for.the next couple of miles.

As someone who works in school admissions in a English LA I can confirm that there are La controlled schools that use denominational criteria. We call them voluntary controlled.

    Shouldn’t it be

    Cannondale Trigger(s broom)?.

Last three bikes built from frame only, but, if I bought a bike it’d have its saddle changed then just ridden til stuff wears out.
