i flew* past andy wilkinson like he was stood still, to be fair, he was laden down with panniers and iirc was on his way from a plane journey to stoke or somewhere for the rttc dinner. Did exchange a few pleasant words

*i may have been going only marginally faster

24 hour time trials are fairly common, some huge distances are racked up

someone once said that you can only beat who’s in front of you.

if wiggins’ wins i don’t think that the non participation of contador/schlek will make any difference, he can’t help that they didn’t even make the start line.

wiggins’ would have beat schlek in a straight fight this year anyway.

    organdonor,

when i was in lri having my elbow reattached i was in abed next to a st matthews scag head. He’d broke his leg jumping over the railings on the inner ring road, got his foot caught in the top and ripped his leg apart.

wow, leicester sounds bad, but to be fair, i feel uneasy there these days, i’ve never found unease on ethnics grounds, but the mix is different now.

The ridings not great, the ‘decent’ places have been named but theres round staunton harold which is ok.

I dont agree with the crapness of road riding, in my part of leics, there great lanes stretching to hinckley and into warks, you can go east into the wreake and onto rutland and south leics is nice. Really good road scene also.

    dd,

you once twisted the knife when i was feeling the pain of being an arsenal fan….

tonight, i will simply offer my condolences and say, sincerely, i’d have liked ireland to progress.

i feel your pain. i too would have loved to have see italy knocked out.

the british cycling website will help you find clubs, dunno if manc clubs are stuffy but it’s a good structured way to learn routes, techniques etc.

crikey,in an earlier post i intimated that my 3 yr old has more resoning behind ‘her’ purchases than tj does. He would have us believe he does something akin to pin the tale on the donkey. Which is nonsense. My daughter doesn’t know what chocolate tastes like, but she likes bright colours so reaches for the bright packets, coincidentaly at child height, when she’s in the shop.

It’s so ingrained in all of us.

As don simon says, advertising is but a small part.

I like rapha, i like their kit, i kinda like their films, i like the way they play on the physical hardness of cycling. Cuz we are hard!

I do not put forward any argument for brand a over brand b – have yo actually been reading? I don’t care which it is so long as it does what I want it to do

but you make a choice, without any basis for making that choice (or secretly you do,but, for some perverse reason you claim you don’t) whereas my daughter does make a choice based on what she unknowingly sees (which you dont).

    what have YOU been reading?

It’s not nonsense. It’s a question you can’t answer because the answer either outs you as someone influenced by marketing or a buffoon with the financial decision making skills of a 4 year old.

my daughter puts forward a more compelling argument for washing up brand a rather than brand b against tj’s. she goes by colour.

this is NOT a decision she makes based on marketing. they are the colours they are by accident, not by design.

someone correct me if i’m wrong (i’m sure you will). but isn;t 631 just the tig weldable version of 531? i wouldn’t think there’d be much difference in weight though it is stiffer.

    geometry, i have no idea,.

i have some agreement with you saladdodger.

    the bonti,

light, responsive, went up hill like a rocket, superquick on singletrack.

went downhill like a shopping cart loaded with merangue at the bottom and cans of lager at the top. for some reason i put amp f3’s on it….i have never crashed so much in my life.

all things balanced tho, it is awesome. 😆

    mrmo,

surely a really old stumpjumper is one of the original classic mtb’s.

fwiw, i own an old bontrager (a trek one, not santa cruz built), it was contemporary at the time of purchase.

it’s not a classic i don’t think, it is retro, and i do love it (although i have toyed with selling it in the past and i dont ride it much now).

    you still chose them though.

i use feather and shark razors, i don’t know why, they have no uk marketing that i have seen. yet i still chose them. i didn;t pick them blind, as you suggest you do. a process occurred that led to me buying them as did your choice of blade.

this process is influenced by marketing.

what does the word feather mean to you.

what does the word shark imply?

pretty much what you describe. 2 mtbs, but with a young family i’d be better off with a ‘monster cross type of thing. i can muster a decent 1hr off road jaunt from my doorstep but it would be doable on a crosser.
