What width rims are you using? I’ve got 2.35 HD and NN on some 35mm lb rims and can measure if you want.

Phone National Rail Enquiries and ask them. They can look up what trains/times he can take the bike on and book him a ticket and a place for the bike there and then. They are very helpful from my experience of occasionally taking a bike on the train during peak hours.

Northwind, tried a Camber before buying the Gyro and chose the Gyro over it. There’s a concept store near me so maybe I’ll borrow the demo again.

Roverpig, there’s nothing I can mention explicitly that I don’t like as such. Climbs ok, goes down ok. It’s not the lightest though and now that I’m fully into the 29er element I fancy something new/better!

I should probably demo some of the bikes at Mountain Trax. They have an Ibis Ripley and a Tallboy2 Carbon available.

The fact it’s so similar pretty much discounts it though!

Niner Jet 9 appears to be steeper in it’s angles than the Gyro, whilst I don’t want to go much slacker, steeper isn’t the way I want to go so that’s probably out.

Not sure I really follow the comments about the “progressive-regressive” linkage.

I’m enquiring about the Pivot frame though.

Thought about the SB95 but Hobnob pointed out the massive weight of it. SB95C would be an option. But we’re into quite a chunk of cash then.

Tallboy Carbon could be an option, but would not be the LT version due to wanting to use my current forks. (Bit of a cliche too being an Audi driver!)

The Niner Jet option needs a bit of investigation too. Anyone ride one?

That Pivot does look very tempting! Close to me too. Is there much dealer/importer support in the UK?

I like the sound of the Banshee too.

Tallboy had been looked at, but the cost is just crazy. Can’t justify it.

Where’s the best place to buy the Geax tyres from?

Will get used for both work and weekend fun. I want him to go more mtb than road orientated.

My riding is mainly swinley or local muddy singletrack. I tend not to change tyres often but have tried a few now, currently running a Hans Dampf front and nic rear, both tlr snakeskin versions. For swinley, a nic front and Ralph rear work well, but I find they struggle with my local stuff.

Nice one, that’s a pretty good call! Leaves budget for a lid too.

Some good points here, much appreciated!

She’s 5′ tall. Currently on a 15.5″ Gary Fisher Tassajara. Trying to find the geo measurements isnt easy though!

Size is going to need to be around 15″. Budget, not sure. Will have to see what route we go.

Was a new XT cassette (11-36) that went on at the same time. The ring (24/32) aren’t new but I didnt notice anything too bad on them wear wise.

Will give them a good check over though. I did want to switch to a 24/34 or 26/36 anyway, so new ones might not hurt.

Ok, new xtr on order to keep me going, will contact kmc about a warranty replacement too.

In all seriousness, is changing chainrings under load a no no? I’m not really one for mechanical sympathy, but I’d rather not snap chains if I can help it.

Bought it from Merlin, do I go back to them for warranty of the importer?

    Back to shimano I think.

    Xtr is cheaper anyway!

    Lol @ ransos!

The other requirement is a **** great beard.

Joking aside. There isn’t much of a bike shop in LMNH, more cafe. But the food is very good. I work over the road and have been there a few times.

As an employer, is there any sort of deductible allowance I can use to pay an employee for cycling to work?

Not tried the Butcher, but I tried a Purg/Ground Control combo and took them off after one ride. Didn’t like them at all. Didn’t work for me in the dry or in softer, muddier conditions.

Back the the HD/NN combo for me!

If people were buying again, what would you get? I’m torn between the reverb and Thomson.

I use the Tahoe Sport. Wanted something not too disco slipper and these do the job.

New rotors are pretty much the last thing left to replace. I’m not very enduro so don’t think I’d melt ice techs if I tried them.

Caliper alignment seems ok. It’s square to the disc and even when I look at the pad clearance.

Hitting with a stick is tempting!

Thanks for the replies and mail! I was planning to head to the Moors Valley centre to see what that was like… Then the gearbox in my A6 decided to shit itself on the way home from London today and I’m not sure I’ll fit my bike in the loan car now :(

A decent fireroad/singletrack loop would be ideal say 10-15 miles? My email address is in my profile on here.

    Many thanks.

Just looked the Hoy 16″ wheel bike up, Christ! It’s even more than the Isla!

Does look good though. Shame it’s not available in red. Lol, it being red is VERY important when you’re 3.

I’ve been looking at a Cnoc 16 for my 3 yr old.

Had to pop into an lbs this weekend and took him with he, not realising they stock Frog bikes. Sat him on a Frog 48 and was very impressed with it. Well made, decent components etc.

The residual value is the only thing in Islabikes favour that I can see. And as said, not being able to actually see one easily is a PITA. buying a Frog from a lbs that I can then take it back to easily if needed does count for a lot.

Finally got mine on yesterday and rode them today. Very pleased with them too!

From the oem wheels and cassette on my Orange Gyro I dropped from 2440g of wheels to 1715g (35mm 29ers, pro2, dt revs, dt brass pro locks). I’m also running them tubeless so that’s another 250-300g saved, making around a 1kg drop!

The weight difference is noticeable immediately and the stiffness is excellent to have after the flexy crap the bike came with.

It was a bit difficult getting the 2.3 snakeskin HD on the front and it broke two levers! The Nic rear needed a blast of CO2 to get it to seat, I then let it all out and added air/sealant. Might have to buy a compressor!

Are you feeding formula or breast feeding? Might be worth trying to change formula brand or get your wife to alter her diet. For example, my wife couldn’t eat Peppers, onions or any brassicas as it would cause number1 son immense pains and keep him awake for hours. There is lots of breast feeding help available. A friend of ours is very active in supporting new mothers so if you want to be put in touch just send me a mail.

It doesn’t help, but it will get easier. I’m also one who took several weeks to bond with our first child. This person had come into our lives, nearly killing my wife in the process, and then changed our lives completely. I felt like a spare part, just getting stuff for them and not really feeling I was needed. It took 6-8 weeks I’d say and then it clicked.
Number 2 was totally different. I’ve loved him since the moment he arrived!

Saw the fb thread last night. You have to wonder what sponsor influence is going on for a site to be so vocal about a particular brand.
Ironically, their own mtbr thread about lb rims is the biggest one on the net and has minimal failures being reported.

You only ever hear of the bad news/problems. Never from the people that run them with no issues. But if people are riding these rims expecting them to perform miracles then they are fools. As said above. Shit breaks.

I’ve had one set from Slik before and it was pretty painless. This job should have been an easy, open file, change colour and make. Got the usual promises but then nothing.

    Will try Gil.
