I had many issues with a 1/8th set up, including the chain jumping off under load.

Since swapped to a SRAM 3/32 chain, UNO, Surly and it’s flawless.

26″ are fine, I prefer 29″ Schwalbe tubes for peace of mind.

Is that 2 chains joined together?

Strange one this. My fixed road bike set up has a tight spot. Don’t like it but it’s not a major issue.

My UNO/Royce bb/Surly MTB set up is amazingly free. No tight spots and minmal friction. Engineering loveliness.

I would suspect the parts in this order:

    Chainring (you’re stuffed!)
    Sprocket (try another?)
    BB axle
    Rear freehub
    Cranks (you’re stuffed!)

    Keep us posted!

For me the purpose of riding Sportifs in this country is to build up to ‘proper’ ones. Try La Marmotte, a Grand Day Out!

Cycling shorts need a one piece pad. If you have sore nubbin issues you might try this:

I use cheap and expensive shorts, generally the more you pay the better the quality of pad. For value I’d recommend Lusso.

In your situation, get a cat. Are you really going to get up and exercise it for 30 – 40 mins evry day before work? And then again when you get in?

And if you insist on getting one, get a hybrid from the Blue Cross. Paying loads of money for a status dog with proven health issues is just stupid.

I’ve just looked at it, very similar spec to the one I had.
    I replaced:

Lots of pads, the ditched the brakes and went for Hope
Freewheel then rear hub bearings. Ditched that and rebuilt with a Hope S/S. It weighed a ton too!
Killed the b/b in a few weeks and went Royce/Middleburn mainly because I wanted proper 180mm s/s cranks
Headset replaced with a King after it went all notchy.

I ended up with a really nice bike! Did me proud at the 12/24

Even at 20% off it’ll be marginal value for money. Kona is a strong brand, they’ve made some great bikes. I quite liked my 2008 Unit apart from the stupid mud shelf built into the chainstays.

A good bike but poor value compared to some brands.

I’d start slow, dog on lead adjacent to bike being walked past. Try distraction, possibly with treats.

Most important: reward only good behaviour . Dogs love your attention, being told off is better than being ignored.

Don’t get aggressive, it won’t work. Learn to be firm without being angry.

You have to find a way of making the dog want to leave the tyres alone…..

    Good luck!

    Please explain.

Edit: FIXED road bike and rolling terrain. You can’t stop pedalling / resisting / honking / spinning.

You’re always in the wrong gear. Perfect!

Or someone could just produce some BBs that aren’t crap in wet weather

    Square taper?

    He’s right, they do:

They only last about 10 years between bearing changes. Give Cliff a call, he’s a very nice man.

If it ain’t broke don’t go redesigning the thing unecessarily![/b]

This is wrong. I know that a lot of people love their dogs, but seriously you lot need help.

No, the rest of you need a sense of humour! :-)

Good gear, biased towards slightly over-engineered. Not a problem on an MTB!

Limiting factor is the rider. SDW shouldn’t be a problem. How good are you?

Any one else remember the old x-lite = under-engineered overly light spangly bits that broke? Please tell me there is no link!

    £4K build based on a £499 On-One plastic frame….

£4K spend doesn’t make it a ‘superbike’ just an expensive bike….

Best of all, a £2500 opening bid! The last time I looked warranties only apply to the original purchaser. And if he’s in the trade and buying at trade it won’t have cost far off £2.5K brand new. Only mugs need apply.

    Caveat emptor!

Mmmm, definitely not as gopping as the carbon small wheeled bike. At least they saw fit to put some lacquer on it!

Mine are now 2 years old. Bought them in Oz from the shop.

Prior to that I have spent a fortune on lights, basically getting a new set each year.

The great thing about the AyUps is that they are a system, and it works really well

OK, cut and paste quote, but exactly the same applies here. I’m really pleased with mine.

Tubs feel awesomely fast on the road. I would race / do long Sportifs on them. I definitely wouldn’t commute on them! I did many years ago, and repaired them myself, but it’s lots of aggro!

And yes, you can ride them flat, so pretty handy for cyclocross too!

    Buy a http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shopdisc.html cog

Take off your rear disc, bolt on your cog, turn your wheel round. Remove the back brake too. Go riding

Why ride fixed? Why ride gears? Why ride on the road? Why ride on the track? Why ride ‘cross?

Because I love riding. That’s all

    a) Yes.

    b) Get a wide base one. Surly are ok, some are wider.

    c) A wide base sprocket won’t ruin your freehub.

    d) No, it makes perfect sense. Gears are for losers 8O
