If you ride muddy conditions don’t bother, unless you fancy replacing them a lot

Spot on for mountain bikes then!

I’m personally quite liking these  :

20 years of all weather riding (including mud :o ) and still going strong. If it ain’t broke…..

Shimano is the sensible option. Fit, forget, throw away every once in a while. Steel and plastic, Japanese, quite heavy, does the job for a reasonable amount of time rather unglamorously.

Royce is the pimptastic option (fitted on all 4 of my bikes….) aluminium and titanium, super quality bearings. Absolute things of beauty, super light, super shiny and user servicable. And you get a whacking great big Royce sticker! When it needs servicing, which isn’t very often, (10 years and counting  ) drop in and see Cliff.
If you’re concerned about chainline I’m sure Cliff would help you with that if you can take the frame down to him. He did a great job for me.

Which is for you? How deep is your wallet?

If you’ve got the older UN71 type with removable cups the unit is the same you just need to ‘transfer’ the 68 cups for the 73’s or vice versa.

With the newer style with integral d/s cups you could space a 73mm bb for use with 68 shell (2.5mm spacer, I’m good at maths) and hope that the non d/s seats adequately. It will sit inside the frame slightly. 68 bb to 73 shell won’t go unless you machine the d/s face of your b/b shell….

Some sort of bike. With wheels. And possibly gears. Or possibly not.

IME, if a rider is fast, they’re fast on just about anything!

You need a Stein tool, comes with a tap to cut a new coarse thread in the old hole/s. Then apply fire to the thick end of the crank, and use Stein tool to loosen.

Decent LBS should be able to help, and you won’t muller your frame.

    I really like that.

But for that money, you might as well have Ti, I’d have thought

Ti frames are prone to cracking and soooo common darling

Ti frame – check for hairline cracks.

Square taper bb’s need progressive tightening to a specific torque as you ride. The advice above suggesting monster force is questionable. Assemble with dry tapers and cranks too, otherwise the cranks may go too far up the taper.

I’ve had a similar issue that I thought was the b/b and it turned out to be the rear hub…. good luck!

A saddle you aren’t supposed to get wet? Great for cycling in GB then…

Still, at least they’re cheap 8O ,light 8O , and don’t need to spend ages breaking them in

WI, it’ll make your wallet lighter and has the added bonus of the best clicking sound in the world

If you ride anywhere muddy than a non-sealed (BMX) freewheel will ingest mud and sieze.

    I’ve exploded cheaper ones which isn’t a comfortable experience… 8O

you won’t build muscle at 50 (unless you want to use some drugs) so you got to lose fat.

    Utter rubbish.

I’m not with Solo, but as an experienced motorist/LGV driver I do find myself thinking ‘inconsiderate idiot’ when being dazzled cyclists with powerful flashing front lights on ‘high beam’.

We share the road with other users, it would be prudent not to aim lights to dazzle oncoming drivers. Aim them to light the road up, not oncoming drivers retinas.

I’ve got a 50 year old mate who can ‘own’ most people, most of the time, on most terrain. He is just an exceptional rider who happens to ride s/s.

I do like the reaction of some people up there ^^^^, as Mr Smith says there will always be someone better than you!

Never happened to me either. It’s a myth perpetuated by people with fragile egos and under developed genitals.

Methinks you protest too much :D

BTW the old bloke is now riding fixed and still being a pain in the @rse.

I’ve tried 29ers, liked the way the front end rolled but didn’t like the back, felt too long and somehow cumbersome.

Tried a Travis Brown 69er (the brown one up there ^^^^^) and loved it. Best of both worlds, so got a geared bike too. They do look a bit odd but the handling, for me, is fantastic.

If giving 100% is your absolute maximum possible effort(that’s my understanding of a definition of giving 100%) then any more effort would result in death 8O .

Which is a fair outcome for anyone claiming to have given any increment over 100%.

Lawrence, where are you riding? if it’s Wales or anywhere hilly you’ll need to match your gear to your climbing ability. If you’re riding in hills then typically 32:18 or even 20 for 26″ rear wheel (add 2t for 29er) This will be very ‘spinny’ on the flat. 32:16 is good for rolling terrain and shortish climbs.

    Question:

Why do people who don’t like tattoos always feel the need to comment negatively on those that do?

Because the OP posted pics on a public forum and asked for an opinion?

We don’t feel the need to comment on your skin

Strange comment. But you will note I have neither posted pics or asked for your opion on my skin. Which is lovely, by the way

I concur. The saddle on the tricycle should be much more rearward to promote stability. And the spoke count on the adult bike is extremely high…
