I've got a lurcher , he's just a fantastic trail dog. He is very clever, pretty fast, obedient and can run for hours. I s/s everywhere (I don't think geared bikes are fair competition for dogs) and he's done up to 30 miles with me. He's great on the lead, really chilled around the house, and doesn't fret if you can't take him out first thing.

I would say choose your breed carefully, but the majority of a dogs behaviour is down to the treatment it gets from its owners. And if you get a pup consult your vet on the appropriate time to start extending his/her exercise time. Your rides should always include planned water stops and don't forget some treats for energy….

    Good luck!

I'm gutted for you. Steel is real. And it lasts a darn sight longer. Titanium cracks. In the end.

It won't take long, just let them estblish a hierarchy without your interference and everything'll be fine. Sit back!

We've just introduced our 9 year old lurcher to a Jack Russell and a new kitten. The puppy didn't take long *SNARL GROWL WOOF!, I'M THE BOSS* Kitten is taking a bit longer…

I'd take it back to the service provider and let them sort it.

Asking to unlock a phone could be percieved as dodgy, however helpful you're trying to be.

32:16 on a 26 = 32:18 on 29er. I can only comment from a s/s viewpoint so my limited knowledge is all used up :?

Why don't you work it out with Sheldon's help?

I've been commuting on a fixed gear bike for years. 1000's of miles with no maintanece – great :D!

I love the arty shots of the bikes, they can have such simplistic beauty. There are some photos online of people in fancy dress 'old skool' stylee 8O. They are so funny, how could you possibly criticise? It's not as if they're hurting anybody!

Post some pics, go on go on. Caps are KOOL!

Pardon me for being ignorant, is that a 96er? Or do I need my eyes tested?

Really like the bike though, trying to get my head round the concept…

And buy lightweight tubes if you're fond of getting off your bike lots and taking the wheels out….. 29er wheels are a bit heavier, don't worry!

Ok, this is slightly embarrasing but here goes:

The drive side hub bearing was running dry, the outer race has worn to the extent it has split in two 8O. On removing the axle in an explosion of balls and rusty cages, the split inner race was left behind. It looked like a chamfered edge but on reflection I may have boobed somewhat .

Anyhoo, all bits now removed, I shall go riding tonight! Thanks for your input gents.

I've done some old Ultegra's. I had to make a tool to get them apart but it was ultimately sucessful. One stage at a time!

Mmm. Ok, cheers guys. I must be being a bit of a cock then. I'll look at it tomorrow when I'm less tired.

    Thanks y'all.

Ah, Stu – when looking down on the bearing in question does the outer race sit roughly flush with the land of the inner shell?

It's just that I'm fairly sure I've got the right bearings, but the drive side hub bearing doesn't look as though it's seated correctly. And the freehub body sits too far outboard when reassembled.

And yes, there's a typo… I've been sold a pair of 6903's as hub shell bearings.

The problem came up a few minutes after Hope went home 8O

I'm only asking for a fact, not a guess….I'd like to get this sorted tonight if poss.

fozzy – thanks for your reply but I don't want to assume, I want to know. The information for standard Pro 2's is readily available. The info for the s/s hub is not.

Does anyone actually know if the drive side hub shell bearing is a 61902?

TJ, man of many words and opinions. And always right

I only use a clean flannel, as the dirty ones I keep damp and rolled up on the floor only seem to make matters worse…

Old is good because it's rougher. Abrading as far as removing dirt, and the salt water treatment comes recommended by health professionals. It's not comfortable, but it works for me. Try it.

It is 'cos it will abrade the affected area and get the slat water in. You shouldn't be crying for more than a few minutes…

I've been through all this. I rode La Marmotte this year in basic shorts on a basic saddle. It was v.hot and sweaty (especially on the Telegraphe!) and I stepped off after 9 & 1/2 hrs ride time with no trouser trouble. My recipe for success…

    1) Cleanliness – keep yourself scrupulously clean in all areas. Don't make me spell it out!
    2) Arse acclimatisation – I'd done lots of 'darkside' hours in the saddle
    3) Take your shorts off straight after riding
    4) Wash your shorts after every ride
    5) If you do get the onset of problems wash yourself then clean any sore bits with salt water. This can be quite uncomfortable but works. I use an old flannel to gently exfoliate the skin.
    9) Wear cotton undies. Or none.
10)Chamois cream on the pad works well. I only bother for 4hrs + rides
11)Sudocreme is waterproof so it will reduce chafing but will hold any dirt due to it's tackiness and be difficult to wash off thoroughly. Avoid, IME.
    11) Ana avoid riding fixed gear bikes, all that sitting down in one position is asking for trouble! Chafemungous.

Another big yes vote here. My Middleburns are square taper, which is a positive for me. The ring is hardcote, the set up is 3/32 chain and rings. I only ever use Sram chains, PC850 for the s/s, and Surly cogs.

I'm 16st, exert a lot of force when climbing and have used this set up in all conditions including racing the 12/24 and nightriding off road through the winter. It's proved to be 100% bombproof.

Unit 29 here, same opinion as bigdugsbaws. Components are a bit shite but the frame and geometry are spot on. You'll need to upgrade bits at some stage. But the most ridden, most fun bike I've owned.

    Possibly an '09 sale bike?

Cheers m'dear. Almost exactly what I ride, 26" wise. Which I'm thinking could be a tad small.

Think the Unit must either be longer or have a longer wheelbase as it feels more err, stable /rolly. *wanders off to take measurements….*

Well I'm not going to apologise for not putting *SPOILER* in the thread title, this has hardly given away the result. I wanted to find out the extent of his injuries. Lighten up FFS!

Hope the big man is in one bit and back soon. An MRI scan on your spine, even if precautionary, is worrying.
