Or Shi*mano if you like to service the drive side every 3 & 1/2 yards if riding in the wet and mud.

Lurchers make great pets in MTB homes. They are singlespeed friendly, i.e. the pace suits them perfectly but most importantly their temperament is set on 'chilled'.

If walking is not an option for him then sleeping is. No chewing, no fretting, no mess. He just wants to be good.

    He just doesn't like sqiurrels much;

Men. Just ask my wife. Driven ouit of HSBC by a nutty, jealous, vindictive bitch. She'd never had any trouble in 10 years of employment before changing departments.

I know her name, I know where she lives and I have a cricket bat with nails in it….

I've done WI freehubs and they're great. A bit of a faff (and pricey) to change ratios. Yes, I know….. 8O

Ran King for a while. But I find them OTT, special tools required to adjust and service, the freehubs have more drag than most others but admittedly not a problem SS wise. But pretty stupid sound, nice and light. I know people that have poroblems with the drive ring not engaging consistently.

I'm now on the very excllent Hope Pro II, I like to use British stuff, customer support is excellent, spares are easy to get. I've just done a bearing change fo a few quid, they get a highly recommended from me.

Probably not. But maybe. Life's a gamble. Especially for tight wads like you and me

I made an 8 speed chain from all the left over bits I had kicking round and it lasted until the chain wore out. Don't see why a 9 speed should be any different.

You may find that the new bit jumps if the cassette is quite worn.

I stay at the foot of Alp d'Huez, those first three switchbacks could get a bit tiring on the way home if you cycle every day! I take a good few days before to 'acclimatise', I'm going to make the event the last day of my stay next time.

It's a great event and cheap as chips compared to the rip-off that is L'etape du Tour. Enter on-line, take a group of mates and enjoy.

And be careful on the first descent, it was carnage this year..

Harry, you would need to guard it as they get hot enough to cause instant heat burns. Not good with toddlers.

They can chuck out an awful lot of heat, so in a lounge make sure you don't got too big.

Have you got a chimnney? If not your looking at an extenal double skin flue. Not cheap.

Until very recently I had a 50 mile round trip on a fixed gear.

You guys doing 20m+ each way:

are you doing it every day?
do you have demanding/tiring jobs/personal lives?
    are you under 30?
are you tired ALL the time?

    No, 3-4 times per week
    Yes
Definitely not, what has that got to do with it?
Tired by the end of the week.

You can sleep when you're dead

Select a gear – go and ride and don't change gear – single speed…
If you fancy changing gear then you have a choice

You've just missed the point by a mile!

SS = one gear ratio, no choice! it realyy does make you ride in a completely different style. More attacking on the climbs, spinning like a fool should you go anywhere near tarmac.

I bought a 200 TDi Defender off here about 8 or 9 years ago. My favourite motor vehicle, ever. Gets driven daily, tows superbly, awesome off road, great for bikes, dogs and generally playing.

It also leaks like a sieve with the mesh taken out, and mine seems to like consuming fan & alternator belts. If you drive it at the speed limit it's quite refined (I'm lying). I would definitely get another one.

Jamaican doctors have warned of the dangers of daggering, after being presented with a forest of fractured penises over the last year.

I'm quite safe from the hazards of 'daggering'. Having a penis the size of an angry clitoris means it would just retract into my layer of subcutaneous fat. A blessing, now where's my step ladder….

    make it harder by:
    Riding to win.
    Riding singlespeed
    Riding fixed
    Riding a unicycle

Hit the nail on the head with the first option. Racing to win is the hardest thing of all. Unless you're the winner.
