Women cyclists are more likely to be killed by lorries than men because they obey red lights and then wait in drivers’ blind spots.

Research by Transport for London, which has been kept secret since last July, suggests that cyclists who jump red lights may be safer than those who stick to the law.

According to the study, 86 per cent of women cyclists killed in London between 1999 and 2004 were in collision with a lorry. This compares with 47 per cent for men.

Firstly, that taxi driver is a **** for what he did.

Pavements, RLJing… it’s all fair game on a bicycle. It’s even statistically safer.

I think that attitude is as prevalent as it is among non-professional drivers.

I’m 5’9″.
The bike purchase is for me cos I want an FS.
It would just be a nice bonus to be able to go about on two wheels together, maybe fire road at the most, not hammering singletrack (just yet). Her current town bike is a Kona with 745mm standover height and that fits fine (frame size 49cm they call it).

Will have a think. A friend who is the same height rides a 16″ Inbred and that looks kinda small but fits, so a Small size FS bike might be even better – however they weren’t available for the model I wanted. I’ve seen Trek Lush’s have super low standover heights.

PS: An inside leg measurement is without shoes.
Put some heels on and you gain more than an inch in standover height.

Yeah, that might be an idea. But no she’s not tried the other one though I’m pretty sure it’s bigger than a medium Scott

On-One? Best value? Yeah, maybe best value for some rusty scaffolding in the shape of a bike.

That Genesis is decent but if you google for a Genesis Core 26.5 I think you can still get one if you’re not too lanky and it has an awesome spec with a Reba, Deore brakes etc for <£900 and is 25lbs, a whole 10 less than any On-One.

Why not just run tubeless? (Not that I experience many punctures. 1 in 20 months so far) Because, as far as my experience tells me, sealants don’t work in the wet

To stop thorns etc causing a puncture i.e. sits between tube and tyre.

The stem on the BFe has virtually no outreach.
A 110/120/130mm stem never killed anyone. And they only cost £10-20.

Apart from saving you all the time/money of a new frame, what else would putting a longer stem on the SC in the first place have done?
