that is utter bollox and you must know it.

Have a look at the Portland riots (I lost count after 200 days) then tell me that again.

Wasn’t it 5thElefeant who was saying that it’s always the left that is violent and that he doubted the American right would display anything remotely like the BLM protests?

They haven’t. 200+ days of rioting in Portland alone. Billions of dollars of property burned to the ground across the US. But that was fine…

What happened in Washington? Two windows broken and a rubbish bin tipped over (other protestors tidied that up). So they put 30,000 troops on the street!

The myth of the second amendment and right wing militias is well and truly bust.

+1 and not just for that, for the other rubbish he spouts and then never comes back.

I had no idea my insightful insights were so welcome.

I’m sorry to say I only skim political threads on occasion. They’re invariably just an echo chamber of the permanently terrified and offended.

Well you’re outside the EU and have been for 2 weeks and is it then ?

I don’t doubt it’ll be 10 years until benefits settle in and 20 years until we’ll know if brexit was a good idea. Maybe 40 years to be sure.

key points – tories to lose half their seats in Holyrood, some tory voters trust the SNP more than the tories on education and health

That must take some serious mental gymnastics. Scotland has worse outcomes than England for both education and health.

We can look of course, but unfortunately the nature of trade is that people tend to trade with other people reasonably close by for most stuff.

Not sure how my house ended up crammed with chinese and japanese stuff then.
Food will certainly be cheaper from outside the EU, same as everything else.

If you say, ‘I’m voting for Starmer because Johnson is worse’ then you are actively supporting this broken system and contributing to the mess that is getting progressively worse as time goes by.

What’s getting worse? Any particular metric?

Thinking back to the 70s and 80s everything seems to be better in any practical metric I can think of. Or how about the 50s if you want an even more stark contrast.

    The former.

We will overall as a nation be less efficient, permanently.

In the European market. Brexit is about looking outward to the world. Europe will become progressively less relevant.

Lots of good riding around Stroud, but Stroud is unparalleled in the Cotswolds for how horrible it is.

    How about Cheltenham?

Whilst I’m no pro mountain biker I don’t think I’m slow either. What kind of fast descent are you spinning out on with say a 30/10 gear combo?

    30/10 is OK, 30/11 isn’t, but..

The thing I noticed moving from 30-11 to 34-11 was that while I could attack fast descents my strava times didn’t change and rather than having a rest I was destroying myself.

First time I heard of a suspension trainer was yesterday so don’t know anything about those. I’ve used rings for years.

Not sure what beginner means, but if you don’t find parallel bar dips and pull-up/chin-ups easy then rings will be a hard option. Parallel bars and a chin bar would be a better option if that’s the case. Or judging from comments above a suspension trainer.

Don’t worry about it. If it starts to offend you in the future stick a layer of something else on top.

    Yes, and zinc.

I know two people who had serious health problems for years that turned out to be vitamin d deficiency. One was falsely diagnosed with ms. The other fobbed off with anti-depressants.

Vitamin d is a big deal.

One of ours is properly exposed and isn’t full of water afaik

You’d know if it’s wet. The lens fogs up.

Pretty sure it’s the mic/speaker grill in the front that’s the problem. That and horizontal rain. If you have the vertical stuff that might be the difference.

I have a blink outdoor camera system. Easy to setup. I like the separate base that you can add a usb stick to.

But… if it rains it fills with water and needs three days in a jar of rice to fix. So it needs to be in a sheltered spot. Other than that it’s a-bit-shit-but-OK-ish.

The Polish have the right idea about regulating social media.

If a media platform removes anything that doesn’t break Polish law then they get a 2.2M euro fine.

I’d like to cover in an expoy self levelling substance, but is that a good idea?

When I’ve looked at that the price has put me off. For a small space it might be tolerable.
Rubber stall mats might be an option (depending on what you want to do with the space). Rubber sports hall mats come up on ebay sometimes too. That’s quite a cheap option.

I’ve used 0.5 and 0.7mm. 0.5mm will dent if you put all your weight on a ridge. 0.7 is less prone to that. You can walk on both without issue other than that.

But… if you’re dealing with big sheets the extra 40% weight takes it from easy to a major task getting sheets onto the roof. I won’t be using 0.7 again. That was a ballache!

An easy alternative… Stick some batons on top of the existing roof. Stick steel sheets on top with bargeboard to tidy it up. You can get it done in a day.

You can get an idea of cost here: https://www.steelroofsheets.co.uk/quote-calculator/

We’ve had an Isuzu Rodeo for coming up 13 years. It got relegated to second car a couple of years ago but it’s still going strong. Great in snow and muddy fields.

We’ve got a removable back which makes it secure for bikes. That’s permanently off now it’s a second car though. Without the back it’s great for logs, cement mixers, bags of gravel, picking up chickens, doing the recycling run etc etc. I wouldn’t be without a pickup.

Probably the cheapest car to run I’ve had. Nothing more than service items and cheap service costs. Mid-30s mpg too.

Somewhere between 8 and 12kg kettlebell would be a good start.
It’s worth looking at more body weight stuff too. Rings are good. A weight vest is useful too.

The core problem IMO is the lack of political engagement of the public.

Farage was great at that. So more of him then?

That assumes that over time there will be meaningful barriers between the UK and the EU.

I think that’s unlikely, leaving the EU is basically just creating economic damage for a position that is likely to be aligned to the EU anyhow without a say in how it’s run.

We could both make our 10 year predictions. We’d both be wrong. The only thing I’m sure of is we’re going to see a lot of change in the next decade.

It’s worth considering more Scots voted for brexit than voted for the SNP. It’s also worth remembering Blair’s plan to turn Scotland into a Labour enclave. Scottish independence could be the end of the SNP. Independence could be the end of Scottish enthusiasm for the EU.

    5thElefant

You might as well assume Scottish independence.

It’s a yes vote to join the eu that I wouldn’t assume.

I think freedom of movement between Canada, New Zealand and Australia is likely to come quickly. Will the Scottish really choose Europe over countries they have family and cultural links with?

We’ll have to see how the eu changes in the next few years too.

    5thElefant

tbh, I don’t really think what currency we’ll use is a question solely for the SNP to answer. It’s a wider question that should be put to the scottish people

Or just ask them if the want to join the eu. That removes any other choices.
I wouldn’t assume a yes vote either. A lot will change.

I’d suggest that the UK is performing piss poorly and is holding scotland back. It also suggests that smaller northern european countries perform better.

It will be interesting to find out. Without other peoples money to spend I imagine Scotland will have to become competitive. Competition will be good for the uk.

Is this an actual fact or just an assumption? Genuine question.

It’s a fact as far as facts go in a negotiation (see scotroutes). There are numerous economic conditions that need to be met that need a central bank with it’s own currency.

I’d be surprised if a country has joined the eu without it’s own currency. It’s pretty fundamental to being a country.

Just use it. The landowner will then introduce themselves and you can have a chat. Or not. Which works even better.
