You need to make a plan, start a new thread called “help my wife get a new job”, because there is nothing left to discuss here.

    She can’t book until January

That is mean. You should be able to book hols a far ahead as you want. Get another job.

I do agree that not booking the holiday when you book the holiday is crazy though…

It would be if it were correct, but they’ve got about 5 1/2 months till the TT…

Well there is time to get a new job, sounds like a crap job anyway.
That is probably your only option.
They are unfortunately correct though, and you getting arsey with them will not have any positive outcome.

Why can’t she book her holiday a year in advance when you book the tickets?

    Why is less immigration better?

Luckily my costs are less than 5% of my turnover, so I can bear it.
I would just like to know what the plans are, I kind of understand the benefits of EU membership, I want to understand what half the country think is the real tangible issue with EU membership and how they see that leaving will make things better overall.
If you read the press and internet media it leaves you none the wiser as to how brexit will improve things.
    Does anyone here know?

My revenues in £ costs in Euros.
I think it should also be remembered that the post brexit predictions are still only predictions, we have not brexited yet, so any current financial indicators do not support or undermine leave or remain predictions.

Good advice. 30 odd replies and there has yet to be anything concrete forwarded.
Come on brexiteers, evidence and facts, why is it a good idea? I want to know how it is going to work?

I am on the fence but, would like any pro brexit types to explain how brexit will benefit economically?

And yet, if you drive everywhere at 15mph on a driving test without good reason you’ll fail. Strange, that.

It is arbitrary, if the limit was 15mph then you wouldn’t fail, you only fail because you are holding everyone else up.

I mentioned before that the statistics show that driving slower than the average speed increase the risk of an accident, much like going faster does.

Assuming it is set up specifically to catch overtakers, you have to admit that it is an uncommon arrangement.

Yeah it is a tough problem.

    Ahh I see. Thanks. Interesting.
So does that mean that the idea that log burners are “carbon neutral” if you replant the equivalent of what you burn is a bit dodgy too then?

Or given what the others said earlier about how cameras can work both ways isn’t this just to get speeders in any direction? I am sure it will get overtakers too, but I wonder that with the cost of cameras etc that this was set up only with the purpose of getting overtakers? Rather than just speeders in both directions.

Either I still don’t get it or you are saying that CO2 from any source can’t be sequestered again?

Big house, 3 floors, good insulation though. You have me wondering if my ignorance has made this worse though.
I agree about buying, and as main heat source. I think it was a bit of romanticism on my part, when I was a kid my Dad got free logs, farm trailer loads. When I saw what I got for 75 quid I was a little disappointed.

I have just started using Abi Carver as linked above, she has lots of free stuff on Pinkbike and Vimeo, has made a big difference to me. 10 + years of working from home have ruined my back.

I guess both are possible. I’m not saying the stove wasn’t warm, it was lovely, but to keep it burning well, red and no smoke, it needed to be fed at a fair old lick.

Fair enough, I don’t doubt that’s the case.

I think a little compassion is required here. It worries me that one persons right to arrive a bit earlier or to have more fun appears to trump others right to life.

Coal is releasing CO2 which has been in storage for millions of years and which can’t readily be re-absorbed.

I don’t understand what this means, can one source type of CO2 be more readily absorbed than another? Isn’t CO2 just CO2?

Set up for exactly the scenario you think cannot happen

    Did I say cannot?
    I said

I can’t really see many people being caught speeding whilst overtaking

and to clarify I meant it was only unlikely in a normal camera set up. What you describe isn’t normal, nor is it the set up that caught you in the outside lane of a dual carriageway.
Which has me wondering, how can you be sure this set up is for the purpose you describe?

I think we are talking crossed purposes here.

I mentioned earlier that I have a feeling this is about change management, I think everyone thinks this is a good idea in the long run.
It is evident that we cannot achieve this in one fell swoop.

Ah if I understand your description correctly then I feel that does not fit my definition of being caught speeding when “overtaking”. I was thinking more on a single carriageway where you cross to the oncoming traffic side. Otherwise anyone caught by a camera speeding whilst in the middle or outside lane of the motorway was “overtaking”. Do you get me?

In fact I am pretty sure I ran mine the same as core, flat out, its just it took 40 mins to really get going and up to that point it smokes and when you decided to stop feeding it and it burned up the last log it started smoking again for 40 mins. With two “lights” a day the it is 4 x 40 mins a day of smoking.

Stovax 9kw stove, I was attempting to use it as an alternative to central heating. So in feb 2012 I lit it every morning at 6:30, kitchen warm by 7. Shovelled logs in until 9:30 ish. Most rooms got above 14c apart from bathroom.
I work at home so then by 12 I was bloody freezing and had to get the thing going again, continuous logs until about 8:30pm. About 11 hrs a day of stove on full blast.
A load of logs (nissan pick up full) was 75 quid, I had 2 loads and used them in about 3 weeks, then topped up with another load before I decided it was crap and went back to using my antiquated valiant boiler.

    Might as well.
Kerosene must be bloody spensive, I went through £200 of logs in a month.

Were you in the outside lane of the dual or had you crossed to the oncoming traffic?

We don’t have it any more, moved hoose. However I did try a CO alarm and it picked up nothing, but it did worry me, we stopped using it after the 3rd load of logs.

Ceasing to rely on the car is the best idea.

Well I agree entirely and can’t argue with that in any way, but I think it is all a change management issue, wouldn’t you agree?
We have an infrastructure set up for individual based transport, making more person and environmentally friendly through automated driving is on the horizon and a seemingly acceptable step for many people. I would be happy devolve my driving to a decent computer programme.

I agree with this big time. We had a Stovax DEFRA approved stove in our old house, it cost a fortune to use it as a replacement for the central heating and frankly stank and gave us bad headaches. Only a small proportion of the burn seemed smokeless starting the stove smoked like hell, and letting it burn out smoked like hell.

I am not sure of the answer but my new combi boiler seems to cost very little to run for the heating work it does and is apparently very efficient.

We are a bit screwed really and seriously need to up the ante with regards to campaigning to our gov to sort out fuel and energy efficiency.

This, it is much the best idea.

And I had absolutely no idea that the car tax fund thingy is not enough to pay for the road network, I thought it covered the roads and a lot more. Interesting.
Shows how powerful the car lobby is perceived to be by the gov.
