  • Riding With Wet Feet Is Horrible – Are Dexshell Bamboo Waterproof Socks The Answer?

    quick thought on this..

Easyjet just cancelled the misses' flight from Gatwick to Lyon. The next they can offer is 26th – 4 days away. But, thing is, neither Lyon nor Gatwick are facing weather problems, nor have they all day (easyjet flew a return flight there thismorning). So its clearly either about logistics, or they're cancelling some extra flights because it's easy\cheap to

so.. at what point does the compensation clause of 'unforseeable events' go out the window

incidentally, flight was only cancelled an hour after supposed departure, an additional kick in the teeth as it makes it that much harder to find another suitable flight.

I'm also looking to do this next year sometime – but don't have the gas fireplace there any more (been ripped out) – so just got an old fireplace\hearth\grate etc, all of which are very out-dated and look horrible. Is there a guide to explain what bits of a fireplace are what, as I'm struggling to understand the difference between surround, backplate, hearth, mantel, fireplace, etc etc (I basically want to replace everything with something newish and minimalistish, to put big logs on to warm up)

are both radiator taps fully unwound? do them with a pair of pliers to be sure. Also try thumping it whilst bleeding (make the air bubbles rise to the top)

if that doesn't solve things, turn both off, drain the radiator, then blast some water through it, could be blocked up with gunge of some kind

probably not. Its hardly the airlines fault that your flight is delayed any more than your own – if they had overbooked the flight it'd be a different story

get onto your travel insurance and claim from there

i think part P is only relevent in 'wet' rooms (bathroom and kitchen) – otherwise you're free to do it yourself

You don't necessarily need the junction box – a neater solution would just be to spur from the existing socket (saves having the box kicking around)

per'aps something happened ahead of them in the road, they braked hard to avoid it, he then remembers you behind him so looks back (I do that after braking hard). Then has argument with passenger who just spilt their tea

i had some GU10 led bulbs, found them to be rubbish (dimmer, much colder light) than the equivilent halogens so I swapped them back.

question : what cars have room for 2 bikes

answer : any car clio sized and above

stw : i've got this car. its the best car for biking evarr. It does a million miles per hour, whilst doing 5,000 mpgs. I put the bikes on the back, though, defeating the point of having an estate, cos my wife winges when I get it muddy

whats the state with passats and MOTs? my understanding was you needed a completely mechanical brake to pass the MOT (for emergencies, I guess) but if the passat doesn't have one, how do they pass (or are they not that old yet?)

if it'll charge a latest-gen ipod nano it'll charge an iphone. They removed the firewire charging pin from the latest batch of ipods and all iphones, meaning only the usb charging pins, which some older docks don't use (because the oldest Ipods didn't, iirc, feature the usb pins..)

my old bike shop would have done it for free, cos I spent a lot of money there. Since I moved away, I rarely use an LBS for parts any more, so seems fair to pay a little extra for labour – I expect this is (generally) where LBS are making more and more of their money, and completely fair of them to do that

the wall mounted workstand is great (use some proper wall anchors to get it in) but pricey – over £200 for the park one (they only do a shop grade one, not a diy grade one). I bought it on ebay US and had it shipped over for about £150, and its very nice, but its quite a lot compared to floor mount options

Trouble with shadows is they don't give an option for moving stuff round when you get new tools – which is a monthly occurance for me. Might get round to that once the board's matured a little..

ps – the door that you can't see (behind the bike) from the workshop leads to what is officially the surfboard shaping room. Might have been the conservatory at some point.. :)

you only need the floor reinforced if you're doing a proper conversion (afaik) – if you're just boarding to stick a bunch of crap up there, you should be fine (within reason – obviously if the beams are thin, you might want more)

as for felt – most older places don't have it (mine is '20s and doesn't). that doesn't on its own make it a candidate for replacement, just means it uses different age technology – if you add felt you have to be very careful to add all the right vents in as the roof will stop 'breathing' on its own

i've got a solar powered PIR light out the front of my house, and it works well enough to see the front door and find yer keys etc, which is just what I wanted it for. 2-3 of them would light a path I recon

    looks exactly like this

works well, as its only on for 10 mins a night as people come and go

5lab – if it's not a daft question, if that used to be your kitchen, erm where do you make dinner now?!

in what used to be the dining room ;)

(I also eat there, as its now a kitchen diner.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/5lab/4095626990/in/set-72157622782559052/ – my origional plan wasn't to swap the rooms, then I figured that having a workshop 3x the size of my kitchen was probably a little.. unnecessary)

could also be the engine temperature sensor – if the engine thinks it is hot, it won't use the glowplugs to try and warm itself up. Also wont be using the right amount of fuel, and therefore won't start

does sound a lot like glowplugs though – same problem on my '99 mondeo derv – replaced 4 plugs, started quickly again. the 2 or 3 cycles on ignition is a good test

it was like flying with easyjet, but for 10 hours. There was a free meal, but all drinks except a single small bottle of water at the start were a cost option. Sitting together was a cost option. There was 1 film (I think, I had my laptop and 4 batteries so not sure), the seat pitch was tight (exit row so didn't affect us) and so on. It was survivable, but if BA is an extra £50 or so, its probably £50 well spent

on the plus side, I don't have to go out to a garage to use it – used to be my kitchen :D

we went with thomas cook air, and it was pretty dire. However, the bikes were fine, and they were fairly friendly. We paid an extra £30 and got wing seats, with tonnes of legroom. Was about £550 pp in the summer (with bikes, return)

one other thing apparently you need 400mm joist centers – I went for 600mm, and made sure that the joins between boards was always over a joist. There's naff all flex in my floor. I added extra joists (laid over the existing ones) partly for this, and partly to allow a full depth of insulation (200mm vs 100mm from a single joist).

final tip would be to have 2 drill drivers on the go – one with a bit for pilot holes, one with the posidrive bit in it (blag one off a mate or sommit). you will need pilot holes for the floor, and with 3 screws per board (I think I used approx 100 boards in total) constantly swapping gets pretty boring pretty quick :)
