One of my best mates, he’s very good at what he does too and he’s a MTB’er in his spare time

Best I’ve heard, well obviously mine ;)

Biggest laugh was when I cracked the old “the Groom’s been dying to rip off the Bride’s knickers, they’ve been chafing him all day” joke

Spent almost 4 hours in the FoD hardly using any man made trails last month (maybe a mile or two) it’s good to have local friends who know it very well

Didn’t look wrecked to me, some of the best singletrack I’ve ridden in years

Piece of cake to do em

Don’t even need to remove the when to get the old pads out

It’s a Torx bolt retaining pin, can’t remember the size though

If in doubt read the manual

If still in doubt, LBS time/find a mate who is good with spanners

    ’03 Orange Gringo

Not the best bike in the world, but a lot of good memories attached to the bike & a lot of upgrades

It was sold as I really needed the money & I’d sold all the other bikes I had at the time.

    a 9t cog will need a new hub/rear wheel.

Cost will be at least £50 for a basic wheel suitable for a 9t, then there’s the 9t cog itself, and then the 25t chainring…

Best part of £100 usually with the cheapest parts in our shop

    Packing? Already!

    Pfft

I’m just setting up bike no 1, just the rear cones to adjust and job’s a good ‘un. Might even clean it, but looking at the weather it might not be worth it….

Then bike no 2, needs some brake fettling and new tyres/tubes

Bike no 3 is ready to go

Just need to dig out the camping stuff, sort some food, earplugs, drink, spare bike parts etc etc

Then work out how to cram it all into the back of my Seat Ibiza…

We charge from £10-£15, depending on how long it takes to do the work, although if you buy a wheel, or have one built by us we don’t usually charge for a quick true up

Spokes £1 each for regular plain gauge

Full rebuild using PG spokes £30 per wheel, can’t remember how much it is for a rebuild with butted spokes

Flat spots are not repairable, you’d need a new rim & rebuild

I’m hoping not to have to use that option, but I haven’t ruled it out

There is AFAIK no charge for a PAC

There will probably be charges for leaving a contract early

IIRC Madison only stock Shimano parts for up to 7 years, if they’re older than that good luck!

    Tried Retrobike.co.uk?

For some bikes the price is the price

For others it can be negotiated

Accessory deals are easier to do

Usually no discount if on 0% credit or Cyclescheme

Find a good LBS & get to know them, take them cake/beer if they work on your bike

Generally if you buy things from them even if it’s not quite as cheap as online, it’ll pay off in the end when you discuss your new bike purchase from them

Sun Ringle Ryde XMB by any chance?

There is a known fault with them

Return to shop for a replacement freehub

Do not attempt a repair yourself, you will invalidate the warranty.

Try both out if you can, or at least sit on them.

The CLS LTD PRO is in very short supply at the mo, if your LBS has one in stock you’re in luck, if not you’ll have to wait a while. They are very popular for good reason, good value, great build quality, look nice and ride well

The CLS LTD PRO is a very capable hybrid, but if your mates are riding technical gnarly (damn I used that word) trails then the mountain bike is the bike for you. Just fit slicks/semi slicks for the road usage

chiefgrooveguru no it doesn’t have the same cable pull

shaggmiester So you’re saying XTR isn’t overpriced? lol both are premium products with premium price tags

Personally I prefer Sram to Shimano, Shimano set up’s used to need constant adjustment to keep them running well, my Sram set ups have never needed any adjustment once set up initially

    As mentioned above

LAMB (link above) do regular Wednesday evening and Sunday morning rides

    Mostly based around Louth/Rothwell/Binbrook/Belchford areas

If you want some XC stuff then LAMB rides are good fun, nothing really technical, just some nice single/doubletrack & beautiful views over the rolling Wolds

If you want something a bit more like Freeride/DH, then Rasen Area Trailblazers have some stuff for you, just outside Market Rasen

If you have a car, loads of stuff is under an hour away in most cases half an hour

Oh & if anyone is in the Lincolnshire area this Sunday, it’s the Bicyclemania MTB challenge, choose between 20 or 40 miles

32t with 11-34t cassette works for me on my 1×9 set up

Not tackled any major climbs with it but I’d just get off and walk if the terrain was too much for me, it’s just as quick in a lot of cases to get off and walk the bike as it is to sit and spin in a granny ring

I went for a Surly single speed specific chainring as I wanted a silver 5 bolt compact chainset version, but any s/s specific chain ring will do nicely

Also using a E13 XCX ST chain guide, not lost the chain yet, might go for a Paul’s Chain Keeper as they’re much tidier looking

German brand, been on the go since around 1994 & in the UK for maybe 5 years I think.

Quite a large dealer network in the UK and good warranty dept if you need it

Cube’s are well worth the money, not a lot that can better the spec for the money on most of their bikes

Decent quality, they ride well & look stunning

I’d have another one tomorrow if I had the need/funds for another bike

I think we might have the bike you’re looking at in store (Website in profile)

R1’s would be ideal for both your bikes, very powerful with 180mm rotors on my Cube AMS100

Tried plenty of other brakes and the R1 just annihilates them in every way.

They’re almost the perfect XC/AM brake (Almost because they’re freaking expensive)

If you can’t afford the R1’s go for the RX instead, you will still have a superb brake

I hamfistedly snapped a tyre tray from a 591 that was 2 years old

Rang Thule UK Customer services, explained that I broke it & how (I did heave the bike onto the carrier and clobber the tyre tray!) they sent a new one FOC!

I was nice as pie to them on the phone, that always helps.

    Shakedown completed!

Well a distinct lack of shaking, buttery smooth ride even on the choppiest of bridleways :D

Brakes need a little fettling & rims need a quick tweak of the spoke key, apart from that everything works beautifully

I think I may look into a 11-34t cassette as the 11-32t cassette I have at the mo isn’t quite low enough.

I achieved 30mph spinning out on the 11t, just looked up the cadence on that, it’s over 120RPM!

    Anyhoo, some pictures…
