Our workshop is fully booked up for 2 days in advance & has been for some time, as are most in town, everyone is dragging the contents of their sheds in for servicing due to the relatively good weather.

It's a 1st come 1st served basis in our shop unless it's a simple & quick job & the customer needs it urgently & it won't delay other customers jobs

We advise our customers when their bike will be ready & a cost estimate. We will still take on work even with 3 or 4 days fully booked.

We have been known to open the workshop after hours to do repairs, it's much faster without the phone ringing or customers & reps in the shop. We don't do repairs on Saturdays, it's just too busy in the shop with sales to do repairs

We ring customers when the work is done or if more parts are needed than originally anticipated.

Sounds like the OP's LBS has let him down a bit by not telling him in the 1st place how long the work would take. The delay could be down to other jobs taking more time, or they could be just plain old shite…

Crazy Legs, that is so true, happens so many times, booked in for say a brake service & then they turn up & ask for the moon on a stick in the allotted time

6" to a foot usually on flats, did get what felt like significantly more on a BMX once, **** knows how, it was pretty startling to achieve about 2' of air by bunnyhopping

Not all car tax has gone up, some has dropped, so it is not the motorists getting stuffed again, it's those with more polluting cars getting stuffed.

    1.9TDi 130bhp '05 Ibiza FR, 37k miles, FSH

Usually have roof bars & carriers on* & it averages ~45mpg overall (town driving, A roads & motorways)

~50mpg if I take it relatively easy, ~40mpg if I'm having a bit of fun

    * obviously I would get better economy without them, but one of my jobs means that I need to use them a few times a week, so on they stay.

Yup, I know that my Orange 5 weighs 28.29lbs, weighed on the calibrated scales at work.

As for the other 2 dunno yet.

Why did I weigh it, purely out of curiosity, I'm certainly no weight weenie!

I have the old Tektro V brakes & levers from the Clockwork project you could have for a few quid, that's your braking sorted!

Just a cheap shorter stem & I reckon it'll make all the difference

If you're not too bothered about keeping it period correct that is

    I've just modernised a '98 Clockwork

Great frame, swapped out parts I didn't like & replaced them. I'm not one for head down arse in the air riding, but the OE 110mm stem is ok with low risers @ 625mm wide it handles pretty well

To me it doesn't matter if the frame is new or retro, if it's a good frame then it's a good frame, maybe modernising the S/Works might be in order ;)

    Great news

Shame it's been stripped of parts

Good to hear that some stolen bikes do find their way back to the owner

Wish my orange 5 would find it's way home :(

Got a a Vail T from ages ago ~2006, still in good condition, works well. Dunno if the new one is as good as the old one.

ok it's pricey, but at the time I was a bit of a fanboi, I still like howies, but can't afford it so easily now & there are more options for similar items

The bonnet release lever is smack bang in the middle of the front of the bonnet above the Seat badge, dunno if you can release the bonnet solely with this lever though, or get anything useful under the panel gap to open it

There is something in the manual about this I'll have a look in mine when I find it

Can't remember if it's turn & hold the key in a turned position, or turn the key anti clockwise to open all doors….

I do know that you have to double blip the key fob to open the C/L on all doors unless this option has been disabled

Hopefully there is enough power in the battery to open the doors once!

Nevegal StickE up front DTC out back, or Panaracer Fire XC pro work well for my & where I ride all through the year

nevegals give better grip, but a bit draggier & Fire XC Pro's roll better but have a bit less grip up front

Seen as I have a new bike, I'm going with Fire XC out back wit a Nevegal StickE up front, should work well (in theory anyhoo!)

I'm not the original owner of all 3 of my current bikes

'80 Falcon road bike, freebie rescued from the skip, Shimano 600 mechs & shifters on it!
'98 Orange Clockwork, 2nd hand off ebay last week
'07 Orange 5ive pro, ex demo bike direct from Orange

Although every other bike I've owned has been brand spanking new

So long as you know what to look out for you should be ok buying 2nd hand

not a spec issue, sounds like freehub problems

    how old is the hub?

Is the chain actually sticking to the chainring, or just drooping a lot when backpedalling?

Yes the SLX does have an alloy carrier but only for the 3 largest cogs XT has a carrier for 6.

    Hope recommend XT & above.

In 20 years of repairing bikes I have never seen something so badly done as this steerer tube & I have seen some pretty bad things done to bikes & parts

Accident waiting to happen, lucky you noticed a problem & delved deeper to find the issue

Seller needs to refund, no question.

I've been known to use Autoglym car wax on bike frames, it does make it easier to wash the mud off & less wet mud seems to stick to the frame in the 1st place

I use Fenwicks & the wax doesn't seem to be affected by it

I'm in no way anal about bike cleaning, I usually just clean the drivetrain after a ride, but after waxing the car one day I thought… hmm wonder if it's any good on a bike…

The admins at retrobike have to personally register new users due to the spammers that have been getting through & PMing users with spam.

Took me ages to get registered on here so it's not just RB who take a bit of time to register new users.

There is a search function on the forum near the top of the page, or just browse the for sale threads or the 'how much is my….' worth thread

Prefer afternoon rides as I like my lie in on a Sunday

Midday start is perfect for local rides, 1pm if I have to travel. Ride all afternoon, get home clean bike, shower, eat, relax in front of TV/internet for the evening.

On another forum ride about 18 months ago some poor sod also had his bike nicked from outside the CL cafe.

Hope that your mrs gets hers back Flattyres

I'm still waiting for the Orange 5 that was nicked from my front room in sept '08 to turn up somewhere.

Unfortunately I'm guessing that insurance won't cover it as it wasn't locked to an immovable object.

pressure req'd depends on lots of variables, frame angles, your position on the bike…

so saying the guide is 20% high is irrelevant, too many variables to consider

Just use the pressure you need to get the sag you want.
