Guy is using a Salsa cutthroat for this ride, however he used a salsa Fargo for the tour divide ride
The Fargo is on display at Louth Cycle Centre alongside his Rourke, where I am a mechanic
I will, when I can give more info on the cutthroat
4ndyBFree MemberWondered when you guys would find our pic of Guy when we handed the bike over to him
We will be updating our Facebook page with more info on the bike and Guy’s Tour Divide ride as soon as we can
4ndyBFree MemberGood location with good parking
Be friendly
Know your market
Stock something different to all the other shops in the area
4ndyBFree Memberboltonjon I have some parts for sale at the mo, until it sells I’m skint!
If you’d like to hang onto it for a little while I’d appreciate it ta
I’ve not listed the items on here yet, so here’s a link to what I need to shift
4ndyBFree Memberjeffcapeshop bingo, dropper post cable guides
boltonjon I have a short silver Thomson stem, might be 50mm or 70mm I can’t remember which, but it is for std 25.4mm bars, any use to you?
4ndyBFree MemberHmm, I’d forgotten about OnOne stuff
The Twelfy’s clamp looks a little industrial, but it’s cheap
Cheers for the heads up I might invest in one of those
4ndyBFree Memberboltonjon it weighs 24.75lb with lightweight tubes & the spec as you see in the pics
rwc03 yup, oven cleaner or drain cleaner does the trick although I’d hate to get to wrong on a rather expensive Hope Eternity post!
timc & esselgruntfuttock the basic frame was around £1100, but then there’s the extras such as the drop outs, fully brazed BB shell and custom paint, all of which cost extra.
eyerideit they’re Charge Splashback tyres, gvery good in dry/damp conditions, fairly lightweight @ ~400g but they don’t like sharp things like thorns or rocks much ‘cos they’ve got a rather thin carcass
Thanks for the positive comments, I’ve not given it a proper within an inch of it’s life thrashing as I’m still coming to terms with it’s handling.
It’s the comfiest bike I’ve ever had & it’s sweet as on singletrack
4ndyBFree MemberYeah the fence is shite, but that’s way down on the list of stuff to do, I’d rather be out on t he bike thanks ;)

I know I need to MTFU & deal with it, but when you think you have found your perfect partner who was your best friend it’s damn hard
I’ve been in several relationships lasting up to 5 years, I know it wasn’t a long term relationship, everything was going so well or so I thought, sex was good, we could talk about anything, etc… but I’d had a very long dry spell before meeting her. Nothing from any of those relationships hurt like this, even when one ex was shagging my best mate
I’m 39 she’s 42
her 1st partner, Mr A was a 20 year relationship and a control freak
her next partner Mr L is the 3 year relationship, but has known him for 20 odd years. The relationship ended (supposedly) when she realised he didn’t want a relationship, just a FWB I guess.
He’s actually on an online dating site, looking for girls to ‘hang out’ with & she knows this. She told me she’s going to have to speak to him about it but gave me her blessing to go online dating
We both own our own properties
I think she never stopped loving Mr L & I may have been caught up in her trying to get over him, she was still in the ‘relationship’ with him I’d guess
I feel a bit better for getting this off my mind, thanks for reading & replying
4ndyBFree MemberYeah I know I contradicted myself there GW lol
175 cranks
Dave’s measurements are
c/stay’s are 16.5″
BB height is 12.5″
top tube is 565mm
seat tube is 395mm
not got the wheelbase measurement
4ndyBFree MemberDave chose the Geometry 68.5° Head 70° Seat
Other measurements were roughly based on my ’99 Orange Clockwork as it rides well and fits me perfectly
Pics make it look taller up front than it is & the saddle does need to go up an inch as the pics were taken before I’d even fully set it up to ride
Went with those tyres so as not to detract too much fron the frame, I think that all black tyres would make it look chunkier
But it’s not about how it looks is it, it’s about how it rides.
1st test ride was good, but need a proper ride off road to give a more descriptive review
4ndyBFree MemberTyres are good in most conditions except gloop
Clearance is good, a 73mm BB shell with no bridge and the stays as wide apart as possible
If I can get a black USE stem in time I may swap it out, you know how these things evolve
Gravity dropper soon methinks
Cheers for the nice comments
What no fence needs painting, wall needs re pointing etc type comments, c’mon you slackers!
4ndyBFree MemberHope don’t do a silver post, believe me i tried to get them to do one!
Use stems aren’t available in the size i wanted either.
4ndyBFree MemberIt’s the pics.
68.5° head angle according to my build list and the angleometer app on my phone
4ndyBFree MemberYes you can run dropper posts on Stereo’s (& Sting’s)
I spoke to Cube some time ago about his very subject, they recommend a 100mm shim if you do need to use a shim
I’d also say a 100mm minimum seatpost insertion based on Cube’s advise above
4ndyBFree MemberCurrently £6 an hour + bonus & dividend
Luckily I live in a cheap part of the country
4ndyBFree MemberHad a general anaesthetic for an inguinal hernia 3 weeks ago (still off the damn bike!)
I had quite a healthy movement (a double flusher) around 12 hours later!
4ndyBFree MemberHave you checked the QR is done up tight?
Does the brake only rub when turning or putting the power down?
If the disc central in the caliper?
If it only rubs as you describe & the QR is tight give the brakes a chance to bed in.
If it’s not stopped my the time the bikes due it’s 1st free check up inform the shop when they do the check up (they are giving you a free bike check up aren’t they?)

4ndyBFree MemberIbiza FR 1.9 TDI 130, 05 plate ~50k miles
I get 40-45mpg usually, more on longer drives on motorways.
Can eek out 50-55mpg if I want to, never had much over 55mpg though, even trying hard & doing around 55-60mph
I do like to test the car’s performance within the legal limits from time to time too
4ndyBFree MemberGenerally you don’t get a shock pump with a new bike
Have you checked everything is tight as it should be?
If it is & there’s still play I’d go back to the shop & ask them to have another look at it
4ndyBFree MemberI was Jedi’d last year, a 300 mile round trip
Camped overnight before the session @ the skills area
Well worth the journey and the expense of a 1 to 1 with Tony
I’ll be going again this year I reckon
4ndyBFree Memberfrom pace’s website
Our factory trained technicians can now service Scott, DTSwiss, Fox, Rock Shox, Manitou, Marzocchi and of course Pace. From a 1989 Pace fork through to the very latest shocks no matter how old or destroyed you think your suspension is we can refurbish it so it performs as good if not better than the day it was made.
I’ve not used them, so cannot comment on their quality of service
4ndyBFree MemberI’m still using a set of Rockshox mag 21’s from ~1993, for the age of the forks they still do what they did when brand new. They go up & down a bit.
Also running 2008 RS reba’s, freshly serviced for possibly the 1st time in their life, silky smooth and no issues
I did run a set of Fox Float R130’s for 3 years with no servicing & at the time the bike they were on was stolen they were still in perfect working order
4ndyBFree Membergee-lay is how I pronounce it, no idea if I’m right or wrong, it sounds right to me & no one’s corrected me on it so far
4ndyBFree MemberJust a couple of things to iron out!
Before my operation I informed my employer that I would be off work for at least a week, probably two & that there would be no lifting for about 6 weeks
6 days into the 1st week my employer contacted me via text and asked when I would be coming back to work
I replied saying I will find out the next day after I had spoken to the surgeon
My employer contacted me the next day by text to ask if I could come to work on the next day
I replied that I was signed off as not fit to work by my surgeon
I managed to get a lift from my Aunt today so I went to work to hand in my ‘not fit to work’ note. No boss in the shop. But one of the Saturday lads was in the shop, I don’t know how long he’ll be there or how long he’d been there. Just copied the not fit to work note on the photocopier, apologised to the lads for being off sick and left.
4ndyBFree MemberThe boss contacted me by text 6 days after my op (Monday): ‘How’s it going, when are you coming back to work?’
My reply was ‘I am sore and bruised, I’m seeing the surgeon tomorrow, I’ll let you know’
Boss text’s me today (Tuesday), with the ‘can you come in at 8.30 tomorrow’ text
I had told him that I would be off for at least a week & I’d let him know when I’d be back, which I did when I had the info
Maybe he should pick up the phone to see how I’m doing, rather than me having to worry about it, I have enough on my plate at the mo (death in the family recently, funeral on Friday)
4ndyBFree MemberNot really anything that touches a Reba even at full RRP
Maybe Marzocchi are getting close, but I’m not familiar with their new stuff, only the old stuff that was shite
Fox are good but expensive and need a lot of TLC (so I’m told, I never have had to service any Fox forks I’ve owned & never had problems)
Magura… don’t know enough about them to comment apart from they need servicing every bazillion years or something
Manitou, R7 is supposed to be a good fork
Basically @£252 the Reba is untouchable value for money
4ndyBFree MemberDrac I did check which part is filled in & it’s not the big box in the middle in which you can tick certain boxes to enable phased return to work/amended duties etc
“I advise you that: you are not fit for work (box ticked) from the date of the op, with the reason being ‘post operatively’ ”
4ndyBFree Member3 weeks ago I went to the GP
2 weeks ago I saw the surgeon
1 week ago I had the op
So yes, it was planned.
Boss had been moaning/taking the piss whenever I had to sit down to pop the hernia back in, which was not a very regular occurrence, maybe 3 times in the last year
I now suspect he’ll be moaning because I’m having time off
Can’t win eh?!?
4ndyBFree MemberOwner/manager/boss… all of the above.
Only 3 full time employees. Owner, myself and one other employee are full time & 2 Saturday only staff (who cannot cover my absence).
Anyway, I replied to his text asking if I could work. I stated the fact that my surgeon has signed me off until next Tuesday.
No response (as yet) from my employer.
4ndyBFree MemberAh yes, insurance… I know that I’m not covered to drive, didn’t realise that would apply that to work too.
I also understand the long term benefit of having the op. Especially seen as in May we’ll be short staffed even when I am back at work as everyone has taken holidays in May.
I don’t think the boss understands it though
I know it is not unreasonable to refuse, just wondering what the boss could do about it & how much of a pain in the ass he could be
