82.2kg for me this week which is a tad up from last week. But after a week of being ill and a few weeks of kitchen renovation meaning no exercise and eating whatever food is to hand as everything is boxed up i’m ok with it. I did manage to squeak under 82kg at one point on an unofficial mid week weigh in, but not eating much and mild dehydration from working all day and not stopping felt like cheating and not a healthy approach to weight loss…plus it was shot to b*ggery the next day when we had a takeaway for dinner!

83.7kgs this week up from 83.1kg last week. But i’ve been ill most of the week so had no exercise and haven’t eaten the best.

I have a pair of Hoka Torrent 2 and they’re good for road/trail but yesterday in the wet slop i had no grip whatsoever. They’re fine when it comes to hardpack and gravel surfaces but once the mud got an inch or so deep they lost all traction.

No change for me this week, i’m taking that as a win.

Just noticed Ian’s post from last week, sorry to hear that Ian that’s got to be a suckerpunch to have to go through. And a shitty week counterbalanced by some comfort food is not the end of the world, the main thing is you were aware of the changes in diet etc and the trigger causing it. I hope all is well with your daughter and you had a better week.

Down by .5kg this week. i was really sweating not meeting my target weight or getting an orange on the board, but in the last week or so i’m noticing a massive difference in my running where i’m now not dying for the entire run and am happy to find new routes to go a little further.

That combined with noticing that my jeans are looser around the waist means i’m doing something right even if it’s not all shown in my overall weight and that in itself is another confidence booster to keep going.

0.5kg down this week* which is great to see. I’ve been upping the miles running in the last week or two so think it’s beginning to pay off.
I’m also thinking my weight loss would be a darn sight more but i’m currently turning my fat stores into muscle so this is counteracting those potential big numbers….but my belly disagrees!

I am seeing the Chub Club as becoming more of a habit forming/breaking tool as now i’m thinking twice before choosing to get a snack of an evening and not having a bread roll with soup for lunch, and do i really need that evening beer?

I’m still allowing myself an occasional treat/beer etc but it’s a conscious decision and i know it may effect my progress and Friday weigh in results.

Down 0.5kg after the hitting a plateau last week. Was a bit deflating last week see see my progress as red even though i’d stayed the same weight so i’m looking forward to seeing a green on the board when i plug in my figures.

…Nooo!! i’m only getting amber, Damn you!!

85kg for me so no change this week. Though i’ve had two nights catching up with friends so dinner and a few pints, plus a mid week takeaway so i’m taking that as a win

Seeing small gains which is great and a real motivation in the first few weeks. I’m sure it’ll flatline at some point and that’s when the mental battel will begin for me.
I’ve set up a half marathon running plan stolen from the internet, not sure if i’ll sign up yet but it’s in May so i’m using it for some structure in my week to stick to in the meantime.

Bump up the height and weight, and removed the meds on MCTDs post and that’s pretty much line for line my scenario. Having Chub Club and a running goal is helping keep my health at the forefront of my mind so i can make a conscious effort each day. And popping on this thread to see others going through the same ups and downs helps remind me i’m not alone in this.

    Good luck all.

Thanks for doing this Coconut, i’m in.
The weight has been creeping and this is the perfect nudge i need to get on top of this and stick to some routine.

    Good luck all.

As per RichT, Duolingo has replaced a lot of my random screen time. Whereas previously i may have a quick round of Sudoku or Wordle etc, now i’ll grab a quick 5-10mins learning Portuguese, so at least it’s something productive.

I use a length of left over insulation foil (bubble wrap lined with foil either side) just tuck it in the doors and ensure it’s flat across the windscreen. Haven’t had to scrape the windows yet.
Funnily enough i happened upon a YT video last night showing the sandwich bag with warm water trick, seemed to work wonders for clearing fairly thick snow/ice.

I bought the biggest craft cutting mat that would fit on mine, it’s been great as you can splice n dice on it and it’s been helpful having measurements and angles to hand too. that and a magnetic bowl has worked wonders

You could register your interest in a PS5 via Playstation network. I did this when they came out and forgot all about it until i got an email about a year ago saying there was stock to buy direct and i could enter a lucky dip/draw where you get the chance to be one of the lucky few who are then be allowed to TRY and purchase one while the limited stocks last. i got lucky and got one.

Then two days ago i get another email from PS saying there’s more in stock and they’re now limited to 2 per person and it’s a free for all so you’d think that means there’s a higher number in stock and less limitations.

+1 for Rigger boots. got mine for £30ish during the sales and they’re bloody amazing for dog walks. easy to slip on/off, decent waterproofing and lined to keep yer tooties warm. i popped a pair of insoles in from an old pair of trainers for added comfort.

I’ve also managed a 10 mile walk in the Brecon Beacons after forgetting to pack my walking boots and they were fine, causing no blisters whatsoever. which was surprising given they’re fairly loose.

Mine live in the boot of the car and have been live savers on many a walk

5ft 11 and riding a large, i’d definitely size up, i was unsure but after reading a few comments on here and other sites i went with popular opinion and they were right.

It’s a great bike even with the stocks Jack Brown gravel tyres which i’d never heard of before. I think they were 38s but in an ideal world i’d get a 650B wheelset and have the option to run monster wheels too.

The paint was good form what i could see but i didn’t like the creme egg so had it resprayed on day 1 anyway.

@Kimbers hope you don’t mind the pile on, it’s all constructive feedback. looking at your video you’re trying to launch forward but that’s only required when moving and even then not as much as you’re going for. Try and concentrate on popping upwards and as per Joe-Ms comment use the flick of your ankle to create the pop rather than the jump itself (Kind like jumping on one leg and using more ankle than knee if that makes sense)

I’d put up a vid of me doing them if i knew how. i’ve been practising for a year now and have ollies at around a foot high when static or 6-8 inches when moving as they’re such different beasts.

Keep up the good work though as you’re not far off

BruceWee well done for providing a perfect example of what the OP was referring to.

Long time lurker and daily visitor here. I hardly ever post on anything at all as while i feel i may have something to add on some threads i fear for getting drowned out or just belittled by some peoples need to be right or just, i don’t know what. but it is getting more noticable and prolific.

(even pointing out BruceWees post had me re-writing this number of times so as to get any point across while questioning whether i should)

Edit: now having seen BWs last two posts i think they are just going out of their way to be antagonistic

My old Toyota Rav4 was referred to as Shankar, mostly by friends and I when working out which car would be used as packhorse for a trip. I sold it to another friend and the name still remains in use by him and his family.

Going for a larger board size and midsized wheels means you’re not limiting yourself to what you can/can’t do. Spitfire are great wheels with plenty of shapes/durometers to suit. If you still want a bit of forgiveness i’d aim for the 99a hardness (higher the number the harder the wheel) this will be fine for getting about and means you can still roll well at the park.

If you’re in / near Bristol you’re more than welcome to try a few of mine to see what fits as i’ve a couple from 8.25 popsicle (Sovrn) to 9.25 cruiser (Landyatchtz tugboat) with wheels from 52mm/100a to 63mm/78a

I’d say it all depends on what you actually want to do. do you want to get from A to B? in which case a cruiser might be best, but if you actually want to skate and maybe learn a few tricks then you could lean toward a more traditional shaped skateboard or even an old school shaped deck. Wheels are fairly cheap and you can get softer durometers for not much at all. Ricta clouds are great for getting around on.

If you want to mix up styles then i’d suggest a wider board around 8.7 to 9 inches wide with 54-56mm wheels, that should keep you rolling along the streets but also mean you can get into bowls or flatland should you want to.

Get in touch with a local shop for a proper chat and see what they have to offer from established brands.

And have fun! skating is great (just remember to pad up)

Edit: by traditional i meant popsicle

I wasn’t, the first thing i did was to send it off to be sprayed. I was inspired by Daffy’s thread and his Carbonda (which was the route i was intending to go down ie import and custom spec build) and ended up having mine done in Volvo Polestar blue aka motorway sign blue, i love it.

Though that said, the creme egg colour scheme is a lot nicer in the flesh that it looks online

I’m 6ft and ride a 56cm. It was my first drop bar bike so I too didn’t know what was right/wrong, but it works for me so far. I dropped the stem length a smidge as I fitted the Thomson I had onto it and the steering is definitely quicker for it when on the singletrack.
And there’s been a few moments when rattling down bridleways at speeds i wouldn’t have thought twice about on a MTB where i’ve had a fear induced grin. It’s a great bike and i can’t recommend it enough when looking at cost vs spec

That Ramin is a bargain, though it looks like it’s 1 1/8th headtube which will be an issue for forks.

The Fuse frame price is absolutely nuts, especially when there’s pretty much brand new completes out there on Ebay for 600-800 notes.

A brand new Bird frame may be pushing the bargain build even though it does look rather pretty.

I was chatting with a non-biking friend last night who pointed out it may be easier to keep my existing bikes and just sell the + wheelset….he’s not my friend any more ;)

I popped down a moment ago to pick up one of those running jackets but couldn’t see any, in my haste i’d gone to Aldi instead. They had waterproof hi-viz jackets with dropped tail, mesh liner & pit vents in stock. they were marked up as £9.99 but rang through the till at £3.99 which is a bit of a bargain

Cheers @Twonks, i’ll add the Whippet to the list, i looked at it before but never realised it took + tyres too.

    @Sheck
, which gen Sherpa did you have? my second set of wheels came with the Tallboy and is a like for like set up vs the 29ers so would be easy to swap as long as i can get the same mech (already have the same brakes on the donor bike)

Thanks again all, appreciate the help

Thanks @Lardman, do you reckon it probably would be a bit tight with a 2.8?

Actually just noticed the Ti part of that bike, which may take my budget build OTT

Thanks all, and apologies i should have said i’d be looking 2nd hand if possible. Cotic & Stanton would be close to my heart but probably rare as hens teeth 2nd hand and expensive brand new. I did see the Trek Roscoe but from what i saw the frame had standard QR rather than bolt through.
I’ll have a look at the others and see if there’s anything out there.

    Cheers

When they order a pizza, but when the pizza guy turns up they have no cash and have to awkwardly try and work out some alternative form of payment.
You’d have thought that when deciding on ordering the pizza they’d know they’d need some form of currency or maybe just pay for it online in the first place

I wonder how much of MV’s “They treat me differently” is taken from the Trump playbook. Being blind re his own faults he’s laying the groundwork so that if/when he drives aggressively or punts someone off the road and gets a penalty he can then cry “SEE, SEE! I said they’d treat me this way”.
