Lerk, I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavours and a life of happiness to you and your family.

I can understand why Mrs4130 is soft on her some of the time, neither of them have gone through an easy time of it and sometimes it’s easier just to let it go rather than face yet another tantrum or spending hours trying to get her to eat dinner etc.
but when the littlun oversteps the mark I will point it out to her quite frankly and honestly, as I would any friend (minus swearing etc, she’s 6!)
but I try and be open with her as to why I do this as I don’t feel I have the right o tell her what to do as I am not her father (too soon for that)

and yes I get the post daddy blues too. and I can understand why she would get upset, it’s just a pain when you know he has deliberately wound her up or said something malicious.
I just can’t understand why he can’t see how much he is messing with her head.

it would have been funnier if the guy on the scooter responded “no, I’M Ron Pickering” in a Spartacus style.

In fact surely there’s a market for “I’m Ron Pickering” t-shirts

I am on the steep learning curve of potential stepdad-dom.
My partners child is 6 and idolises her pr*ck of a dad. so there lots of daddy this and daddy that directed at me, and all I can do is smile and agree that he must be amazing (biting my lip about the manipulation and down-right messing up of his childs head, according to daddy “mummy and daddy would still be together if granny hadn’t died” cue tears)
but over the last few years I have become a great friend to her. I take her on rides and partake in the climbing of stuff in the park. I encourage her to do the things that her mum may err at. even to the point that the mantra is “but “4130” would let me do it”.
I am always trying to let her know I won’t let her down and to give her praise where due.
but I am also the strict one. when she ignores her mum or plays up i’ll point it out and do it directly. she says to her mum “why does he shout at me a lot” which makes me feel bad or that i’m ill tempered but it’s amazing the amount of times she takes things on board.
it may sound like two extremes but that’s what stands out, not the small stuff.
it’s all a big gamble as I know that what I do has a long lasting affect but I can only hope it’s the right way to do thing, and is in line with who I am.
I can only imagine that I am missing out on the “true” parental bond but what I do have with her is an honest and open friendship that I can only hope grows.
so in answer to you OP I’m hoping that any failure will be outweighed by the successes no matter how small they may be.
and to date there have been times when I’ve been looked up to like the best dad in the world, and others some kind of devil

how the hell did she pave the way for Cee-Lo Green? he’s been making music since 1991.

dig out the worst of the weeds and plant in some green compost, then turn this over after the last frosts / early spring to enrich the soil. The green compost also help restrict weed growth as it’s planted quite densely

I recently consolidated my bikes and purchased a Stanton Switchback. it is more than capable enough for my riding and continues to put a massive grin on my face every ride.

a few of my “friends” nicknames

Freak – because he is, everyone including his entire family know him as freak (sounds funny coming from his gran)
Gayface – yep, he has a gay face
Dirty Ted – for his appreciation of fine German cinematography (if you get my drift)
Mickey Tri-Wigs – he’s balding in different parts of his head so it looks like he wears three little wigs up top.
    Pete Sampras – because he’s 90% hair.

knock-on-ginger for me (Devon). we did the garden Olympics too but never had a name for it.
one of the most fun was finding flat topped hedges generally 6ft+ in height, gingerly climbing atop and seeing just how far you could run before being swallowed up by the hedge.

I work for a firm of solicitors, my job is to trace clients / beneficiaries to return their long lost money.
it can be quite rewarding when you get a result and hand back someones long lost cash.

though in the main it is an office job where i’m sat on my arris and slowly rotting away so all in all, no i’d rather be up a tree.

    bad boy bubby
pink flamingos (go on, I dare you….)
as above, Tetsuo / Tetsuo body hammer
    Ichi the killer
Gozu (yakuza dude can only get off while having a ladle up his…. among many other disturbing scenes)
hell comes to frog town (just wrong that it was ever made)
    cannibal ferox / cannibal holocaust
    Holy mountain
baby cart and the river stix

I don’t know how Oldboy is in this list (unless you’re referring to the remake as remaking the original is just wrong) as the vengeance trilogy is a great piece of cinema)

I could go on but i’d probably break the internet

I like the pivotless stays out back and the fact you can mount the brake caliper on the inside of the chain/seat stays.
but while it’s mostly a beautiful bike I can’t help but keep being drawn towards that fugly gap between toptube / downtube. I don’t know why but it spoils an otherwise good looking bike.

Yunki, listen to the rendition of Insomnia about two thirds of the way through. the highlight of the show for me and a great example of just how tight the orchestra were. superb!

the first tracks could have been seen as a bit cheesy in places but the concert was celebrating bbc’s 20yrs in Ibiza so you’re bound to have a few that have not grown well. but seeing the orchestra work their magic was amazing, and as above there were definitely a few hairs being raised when crescendos were reached.

The current obsession of the women in my office and “blessing” everyone.

I can understand if I’d just come back from saving baby robbins (oh, bless you)
but it seems everything is deemed worthy of a bless. “I had a sandwhich for lunch”…..”aw, bless you” (and always with a drawn out yoooooo as if it makes it more sincere)
you’re not the pope so lay off of the blessing you patronising sods!

What’s more annoying for me is the questionnaire that scrolls across the middle of my screen every couple of minutes.
it’s not the advertising per se that gets me but the fact that someone out there is funked up enough to question whether I consider the Innocent brand when thinking about purchasing coconut water… four and cough springs to mind!

it’s a perfectly valid term so feel free to use in self criticism

“Emotional retardation refers to slowed or stagnant development of the emotions. Several symptoms characterize this type of developmental disorder, including a lack of subtle or complex emotions and the reduced capacity or inability to experience empathetic emotions”

i guess, unless you’re qualified to pass judgement on others then it would be wise not to use it when describing their mental state.

though feel free to call me whatever you like, i’m not precious (i’m kinda mental like that…)

surely the best place for a sat-nav to be mounted is the bottom right hand side of the windscreen by the wing-mirror as you’ll be looking in that direction regularly anyway and it’s away from the rest of the windscreen
