Good point about the slime profile being a disadvantage.
Problem is that many of the flat pedal shoes don’t suit lycra :D

I made the switch from SPDs to flats about a 2 years ago and haven’t looked back.

I was using SPD for maybe 20 years and for the last few, I was suffering from severe right knee pain during every ride. After switching to flats the pain was gone in a couple of weeks. Its been fun learning how to handle the bike and I’d find it hard to switch back.

Nice – I’d buy one if it was a 29erer.

Luckily and perhaps unusually(?) we are a one car family. My monthly spend for my railcard is £70 and I think we pay around £300 per month for the car: the car is a couple of years old, with a small loan on it and we don’t drive big distances at all

Yep – customer return. has a small paint chip on the lefthand side. Halfords also put on a new crankset as the owner had threaded it trying to put on new pedals :D

Seems a big ask: from 0km to 7.5km in a day. I’d recommend investigating bus routes and trying to combine that with c25k. Come Summer it will be much more feasible.
