I can understand that it would be handy to have somewhere you could go to ask questions/discuss e-bike stuff with other interested people and without childish input from the e-bike haters. Maybe Singletrack isn’t the place though.

Sound good, how about a forum on the single track charged website? ;-)

Sure it will. The ebike haters will lurk there and ridicule ebike owners. Will make it much easier for the haters if you put it all in one place.

    😂

In all seriousness when the internet was young and ‘gofar’ Was a thing this place was better than going to the pub for meeting like minded people & I would rather be sat here reading it than going to the afore mententioned boozer. It was fun to be part of the Friday EDL threads, hell Im sure I was part of the the first thread to reach 100 posts. I have given my time & indeed money to help others on this forum, now I’m reluctant to do so, it’s just seems so vindictive & full of opinion that I feel it’s not worth the opinion.

Please note the lack of punctuation

21:20 Olly speaks the only scientificaly correct information in the entire vid

Dead right, but I thought it a fun watch and I was trying to illustrate a point. They have some interesting debates on that channel, albeit mainly bias 😀

Best thing about this forum is everything bike related lumped into one forum.

But it’s not though is it, try posting in the bike forum & looking for it on the chat forum.
For all I care you could have lots of separate forums with a simple choice that we have now called OVERVIEW, choose what you want to read or just see what’s happening in the world of STW, hell we could even have a road bike curious sub forum, quite like we do now 🤢

To the mildly curious as well as the the haters, try this Vid To see what’s it’s like to be old/overweight/unfit, go to 13 mins 20 seconds if you want to see the full effect without watching the whole thing.

In seriousness I hate asking pretty much anything these days, everything is open to ridicule, I understand the dislike of eMTB on this forum but I still think it is relivate to mtb, especially to us unfit/ older folk.

    Why wall off one group?

So the haters just stick to their high horses & forget about the love around the Cycling scene 😜

Cheers chaps, I think what I want is a short trave fs, I can’t find much apart from what I would call the medium travel Canyon At that kind of money, ideally I would want sub, or at the most 100mm rear & 100-120mm front with either a Brose or Shimano motor.

I have said this before but both Hunter & Aigle have lastested me less than a year & at over a £100 per pair it was an expensive mistake, I would say go with the fit which means finding a decent shop with some choice, equestrian suppliers normally stock a good range.
Some types of boots just don’t fit, I liked the idea of grub boots but they just didn’t me fit well but they may fit you.

I’m not sure its for you but I have a brand new outwell drummond 7 sitting in the loft, I have a family of 4 & the tent you have linked to is fine if you like cosy, my one is much more sturdy & spacious which was the reality of us camping as a family, I would take £300 for it if you could collect from N/london or Herts but I won’t post it.

If you change your car every 5 years its a bit harder, but

If you buy new then sell after 2-4 years then as said PCH is your best bet, doesn’t even cover the depreciation on some of the silly deals available recently, check out the very long best lease deal threads on pistonheads.

Car AC is so full of bull, it’s just a scam, service your AC sir, certainly sir that will be £XXX

Bollocks it’s a sealed system, just how often do you need to service your fridge at home?

Look up the price of the most common parts on sites such as eurocarparts & google the time taken to fit them. Admittedly the price of AC gas has quadrupled in the last year or two but nothing is a grands worth for a single problem.

    HTH.

Surely you would want to pick up the chilterns in Luton, that or use the Grand Union from Hemmel?

Just how do you pull away from a standstill then?

Ah, the skills that have been lost in the modern era…

Turn the engine off when you stop. To take off, put in 1st gear, start engine in gear.

Or, if you have a passenger, stop in neutral, passenger jumps out and pushes when it’s time to go (only need to get it rolling) and crunch into 1st. Passengers jumps back in.

I have driven cars with burnt out clutches using the starter, quite wether I would chose to do that on a daily basis is another mater, which brings me to stop/start, just how much has the tech in starter motors changed to enable them to do the extra 100-1000% extra workload required before needing to be changed?

You do know that you don’t have to use the clutch with a manual gearbox, don’t you?

Just how do you pull away from a standstill then?

Not quite true. The Porsche PDK does all of this very very well. The car will predict your driving style, for example if you brake hard into a corner the engine adjusts itself to harder driving, stamp on the accelerator and again the car sharpens things up. It does this faster than you or I could react too. It’s fair to add that this is an expensive & clever gearbox today but the technology will trickle down. Additionally, technology will only make autos quicker and smarter.

You know its basically a VW DSG right?

I have previously never got the fascination with you tube, I now fully understand it, I can’t get enough of this series.

It would be truly ace if they done a 5 hour episode of the cost breakdown after they finish it, I’m guessing £120k+ but I bet the cost will never be revealed.

Can’t wait for the next one.

What did you borrow Tony? The last time we discussed this I said I wanted one, well I bought one, a HT & I changed the short stem & 780mm bars for a 100mm stem & 700mm bars, I’m oldskool til I die me ;-)

Went out for nearly 30 miles on Monday, haven’t ridden that far for years!

    Cheers.

    Edit for post above

I would buy a new purpose built bike, I have loads I could convert but decided I wanted shimano steps, in hindsight I should of tried the Brose before I made the decision.

    Cheers.

    A bit of a hijack, but whilst we’re talking…

if you want/need an E Bike do you need full suss? From my own experience I haven’t done anything recently on a FS that I couldn’t do on a HT, yes I’m a bit old school & I got into MTB before the implementation of FS but I have also in the past enjoyed the benefits of the traction & comfort of a FS.

Myself I think my gnar days are over, I just want an easy life & to get out, EMTB seems the natural way forward.

    Cheers.

E bkle haters are going to hate, but it seems to be the future, I even know super fit people getting them as they can still go further & spend more time on the bike.

    Enjoy.

That Vitus looks like GVFM, I decided that if I was going to go E then Shimano Steps was what I wanted, I went even less GayCore* ™ than you & got a 100mm HT with more conventional angles rather than the new stuff, just over 40lbs after i changed the wheels, bars, stem, seat post, saddle etc etc. For those that say a 15lb penalty I would say nearer or over 20lb as the frames are bloody heavy on factory EMTB’s unless spending megabucks.

    Enjoy what you choose.

Luck boy, I wish more parents would get a rigid bike for their kids rather than a POS 40LB FS, next step forward is a BMX

I would say after years of experience to go heavy & steel/ally poles, the cheap ones just bow & snap, I want one of these

Out of interest why do Maxxis crossmark II’s never come up on threads like these, is it because they are relatively heavy?

Snap-On, no seriously I work in the motor trade & they had them on special offer the other month so I bought 2, one for work & one for home, much better than the normal soft brushes your wife/mum would buy.

The mother is to blame, parents that don’t follow through with their threats leads to a child that doesn’t understand consequences & can’t integrate into society, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, but only if everyone is playing the same game.

You say it’s £120k over priced & yet you’re still looking at it, maybe it’s not overpriced at all.

I had the Aigle Parcours, they lasted just over a year before splitting at the heal, better than the Hunters before them which perished at the ankle, older hunters used to last me 10 years, things have changed.

I have recently bought these from Decathlon

Quite happy so far, £100+ for a pair of wellies now seems mad.

If your after a cheap hack then the Audi A3 3.2 fits the bill as everyone is scared of them because of the fuel bills, I have had one for a couple of years, dull handling which even changing the suspension didn’t fix, but a real sleeper & available form about £1500, a good one nearer £5k.

    I did a thread when I bought mine   https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/just-bought-a-10-yo-audi-a3-32-dsg-will-i-die-in-dept/

I bought a Typre R to replace it but it was a bit to much of a yob car to use every day so went back to the Audi.

    Cheers.

I went for the same post based on the fact I rarely use it & I don’t like clutter, I already had a Rev & a KS with remote but I wanted the layback of this one, been great so far & they are easy to service.

    Cheers.
