I was pretty set on getting a Catlike Whisper as it was reduced in the LBS. Then they got me try on a Kask for comparison though. Much comfier, much nicer quality and (when I get some pennies) that’s what I’ll be getting!

Not tried the Fox one, but they always look a bit like they’re sat on top of your head rather than actually covering it.

    Not sure that helps…

Could do it* years ago when I had a mk1 MX5 as the pedals were nice and close.

    *Badly.

That bit in Field of Dreams when the doc walks off the baseball pitch and you realise he can’t ever go back… I’m welling up just thinking about it…

Ignore me. I am being a massive numpty – the mech wasn’t sat against the mech hanger properly.

    I didn’t want kids at 36 either.

    I do at 40.

Hurray! I’ve got one already and like it so much I’m buying another…

Really like the idea of having a go at a 200k kind of distance (previous best is 100 miles) and the events sound great. Sadly the Bristol ones near me are sold out.

Crank Bros bar and stem. Seriously, just try getting the bar in without scratching it to pieces. Ridiculous.

Unless it has the guy saying “I’d buy that for a dollar!” in it, then I’m out.

I like the idea of discs, but wouldn’t go for a Pompetamine being a Pompino owner (heavy).

I keep dreaming of a disc Cinelli Mash SSCX. It’ll probably stay a dream though.

That Stoemper looks nice, though I’m too scared to look at prices.

I’m with euain – Mavericks is free for the simple reason it’s so focused on iCloud and will lock more and more people into Apple services and subsequently devices. It’s a very smart business decision.

Been riding a Pompino for a few weeks and really enjoy it. Cantis are fine in the dry, woeful in the wet. Haven’t tried mudguards, but there’s a ton of clearance with 25c tyres.

Ride feels a bit ‘dead’ compared to the Tokyo Fixed Dart it replaced, but you’d expect that from a frame that was 3 times cheaper.

I always liked the older Kona Paddy Wagons, but they’ve become a bit more hipster rather than practical recently.

Finally got around to building it up and riding it.

Lots of fun on muddy paths, though I’ll need bigger tyres for anything more (currently 25c). Fork isn’t exactly subtle/supple, but was better than I expected. Nice, fun bike. May even have a go at cx this winter.

mickolas – sorry, still not got around to building it up… will let you know when I do!

Yep, steel fork. Heavy enough that I suspect it would easily survive nuclear conflict.

I would have happily run off with any of the Indy Fabs, Moots or Faggin bikes!

Agree the majority was hipster niche, but some really interesting stuff mixed in.

Isn’t that a classic ‘bullseye’ tick bite?

Get to GP for a check. I had the same a couple of years back, went to the GP and was tested for Lymes (I didn’t have it!).

I thought it was ace. Lots of lovely stuff – the Ash framed road bikes were beautiful and some of the retro stuff was interesting, like the case of Campag on the BLB stand. Beer was nice too…

A true classic. Remember to look out for the hidden brakes on the fixie and ‘that’ bike/ballet scene…

I’ve had a P7 for 4 years and wouldn’t think of going back to a full suss. It hasn’t slowed me down (though I certainly feel more beaten up after longer rides). It’s also a lot more fun.

I would however swap the frame for a Soul…

richc – ha! would’ve loved to have seen the guys face as your dog/horse ran towards him!

Must admit, I always check to see if I’m being followed back from A/C or Leigh woods these days. I live a fair way away so it’s pretty easy (I think) to notice anything odd.

The time my bikes got nicked was about a week after builders had been to the property. I was pretty convinced they must have let someone know where/how the bikes were kept considering they’d been fine for 12 months before that. Felt like a bit of a coincidence to me.

Sorry to hear that. I’ll keep my eyes peeled. It may be worth a little drive around Southmead and check the notice boards in the supermarkets. That’s where mine ended up being sold on… before being recovered.

That Salsa fork is a great idea though… wanders off to browse the net…

not take back amature back of the napkin type nuggets of fortune cookie argument wisdom

I don’t understand any of that. But I’m assuming it was a long, complicated way of saying “Thank you very much for your help.”

    You’re welcome.

Instead of asking for an argument just start a post with one of the following titles:

    – steel is rubbish
    – 24.7″ wheels are the future
    – what tyres for slightly muddy trails?
    – low carb diets definitely give me more energy

    That should sort you out.

About 8.3kgs. That’s with mountain bike pedals, a terrible seatpost (since changed to Thomson) and heavy wheels (1.9kg). Groupset is Rival, stem & bars are EA50.

I get my boiler serviced every year. Last service revealed it was using 50% more gas than it should, so maybe get yours checked.

I have a 64gb MacBook Air that I use for work. It’s fantastically light and small which is great for travelling, but the small storage space is an issue so an external HD is a must. That said, when the time comes to replace it I’ll buy an Air again.
