    Sunflower oil works well 😉
    only pence per litre too

long story short, problem with brakes mid-ride resulting in loss of oil…
no bike shops about, litre of sunflower from the closest corner shop
    bled on the trail.

Worked perfectly, actually stayed in there for 6 months of regular riding before I was bothered to flush and change it.
No ill affects, probably not recommended though

Not exactly a Euro fighter or Nuclear sub but interesting
Very odd things to drive, only driven one once
you sit sideways to the direction on travel in the cab 40ft up in the cap in top corner.
and due to local history ours steer back to front (Left=Right, Right=Left)

oh and these too, we’ve got 2 more in the process of being built at the moment

be careful, If you get stopped customs won’t care if you took a bike out or not.
as far as I know It’ll be your duty to prove you bought it in the UK
and if you can’t do that you’ll have to pay up.

    but you might be lucky
you take your chances, some you win some you loose….

From personal experience I’d be wary of a diagnosis of Chondromalacia patella from your GP

For many Chondromalacia patella = Pain behind the kneecap

A bit of a ‘get out of jail free card’ for some health care professionals, much as the IBS label can be used for Stomach related things they don’t quite know how to answer.

From what you’ve said with the cleats, it could be patella tracking issues brought on by said cleats. I had similar issues for other reasons because of over development/mis-timing between the muscle groups within my Quad’s, VMO specificity

I had results with physio but personnel think an Osteopath is the best way to go with this sort of thing. They’re more likely to look at the whole package of alignment instead of just focusing on your knee which might not be the root cause. best to try and find one that’s got a sport interest/background still though

n.b. I’m no Dr so take from this what you will, just my personal experience thats all

    yeah sea2summit are the ones

they’re good, i got a couple free in a race a few years ago

be aware though they do re-expand
and I’m not sure I’d trust it on the back of a bike rack with a down bag in not to get wet tbh

for that get a thicker one alpkit etc.
personnel exped are too light for that too IMHO
exped’s are great for in a rucksack though

all depends on what you want it for

done it on the train a few times works perfect.
I prefer to train out and ride back

beware Brighton station has a thing with bikes if you take that route
mainly a weekday thing I think but they’re stupidly banned for some crazy reason

thanks for all the ideas and comments guys

I take the comment about gear range of the alfine
but still really like the idea of discs, the brakes on my Charge plug are shocking in the wet

I hadn’t looked at it before because of the price but the Genisis Croix De Fer looks pretty good too.
and after looking about it can be had for £1000

    plus

It’s even the holder of a Guinness World Record since in 2010, in pursuit of an often-contested record, Vin Cox rode his Croix De Fer around the world faster than anyone has managed before

sounds like a pretty good confirmation that it’s a very capable tourer too.
tbh looking at it, it isn’t really a CX bike at all is it, certainly not one for racing on anyway, but i was never looking at the racey end of CX anyway with rack mounts

So I think I may have made my mind up. Just a shame it’s not the same colour as the Day 1, I really liked the look of it.

I’ve never had any sort of road bike other than my Charge Plug which is my daily commuter

I was sort of under the impression that a CX bike wasn’t a million miles away from the geometry of a road tourer but just with more room for bigger tyres + canti’s/discs

Is that completely not the case?

I was sort of leaning on the cx side of things as I’m not sure how much use I’d get out of a Road bike
CX seemed to be a bit of a best of both

Buffalo 1TB NAS and PS3 here

Used to use WindowsMedia playeron the PC but went for the NAS so I didn’t have to have the PC on all the time or go up and down stairs all the time to switch it on/off

By the sounds of it my place effectively stuck two fingers up at HMRC and said staff had been told 5% last year so that’s what we’re doing this year. Final 5% came out of my wages last month.

Is there much point to CycleScheme now?
‘Call me Dave’ might just as well have cancelled it tbh

I bet most can nie on save the 13odd% they can save with the scheme now with their LBS/by shopping about on-line/end of year deals
and most people can get a 0% CC for a year so job done

Can’t see many using it in 2011

thanks antigee <Edit> and TJ <Edit/>

    Just got out actually
yeah I pretty much stressed what you highlighted above

had a pretty long and very frank discussion where we both said it’s probably time to move on which it is

But sounds like I might! be able to get some training out of them in the mean time. I know I’ve a responsibility to myself and my career so I am doing some self study. But that can be pretty slow going and without putting it in to use it can fall out of your head pretty quickly. A good course and real world experience is worth a 100 books imo

Depending on how the next few months go I could stay a year maybe 2 tops but fingers crossed I can continue to move forward in the mean time, I’ll continue to look about though in case the perfect role comes up

Still a shame though as I generally like it here, there’s just no future progression path for me here, which he agrees with

    oh great
I hadn’t thought of nuts,k don’t know why, I do usually eat them on Ultra marathons as it happens 🙄

Didn’t think dried fruits, haribo, chocolate or energy gels/bars would be on the ok list though.

    thanks all

used to have a 145 and currently got a 147 both 2.0 twinsparks, loved ’em both
had a 100,000 on both, and as said above ignore the nah sayers who’ve never driven one let alone owned one 🙄
only time I’ve been let down by one was when a Bosch crank sensor failed at about 80,00 miles on the 147
use an independent garage that’s familiar with them and you’ll have no bother
    great cars

I Had a Tux made a few months ago here Yaly Couture in Hoi An, Vietnam
All done over night then a few final adjustments the following day.
Only been back on the UK a week now but wore it on the weekend.

They’re not the cheapest in Hoi An but are apparently the best.
They take loads of measurements which all get uploaded onto their system with several photos, so if you want to order more once your home they can happily oblige.

I was very pleased with what I got, my wife got a couple of dresses made too and a jacket and……

I've got Android on my Netbook (fairly old version) as a dual boot option
It's Useless!! (The Netbook's great with XP for what I use it for though)

I've also got an Android Phone (Hero on V2.2) and it's brilliant
    especially after the 2.2 upgrade
Eagerly awaiting Upgrade time to get a Desire though as they're even better.
HTC Sense really makes it though I think

Get a decent smart phone or a netbook, I don't personnel see what gap they're filling tbh and yes I've used one, guy I work with bought one on import in the first week of the US release 🙄
Fanboi what more can I say, not for me just don't see the point of them
He still can't justify it to me, but he loves it.
He's also got an iMac, MacBookPro and iPhone4 🙄

I use my net book for browsing + emails + backing up photos when away from home, and maybe watching the odd DivX when away too
No USB and not being able to type properly kills it for me
