The UFH section will be a new sub-base with insulation which I’ll do and as you did get the pro’s in to screed it, it’ll probably have engineered Oak floor/tiles in the kitchen
So the log section is a manual load and start up, not to much hassle at all then
I’ll have a search for Marin_Maketh_The_Man threads too
29erKeithFree MemberI’ll try and do as much internal insulation as I can but I really don’t want to have to loose any space from the rooms, the 2 bedrooms in the part of the house which will be remaining are only 3.5m x 3m so not big it’s not a massive house so I want to make the most of the space available.
I will look at the numbers in greater detail, Biomass is just a thought, back boiler like Geoffj’s is also an option too
Insulation, Thermal store and solar are 100% on the list though
cheers all
29erKeithFree MemberBoiler mainly and initial set-up costs are much higher than a std Gas/oil system and many think very short term, I think that would put a lot of people off + effort of keeping it running
Gas is certainly fit and forget, and oil’s not far off, biomass is more effortI don’t think a lot of people in the general public know much about biomass either. I didn’t until I saw Stoner’s threads on here and went looking for more info
Stoner with your boiler being dual fuel how does that bit work?
what I’d ideally like is it to use logs if they’re there, then pellets if not. Is it that clever?29erKeithFree MemberGardens is an ok size 12m x 22m but that’s probably not big enough is it?
cost is still a major factor + I’m not sure how effectively we’d be able to seal and insulate the house up to that level
as I said I will probably initially do the solar and thermal store and get everything ready but re-use the gas boiler that’s there for the moment and just swap the Biomass in when funds allow
Yes cost is a factor but the environment is too I accept pellets may cost a bit more at the moment but as Stoner says that should change Gas is only going one way29erKeithFree Memberthanks Geoff some useful resources there I’ll have a look into them properly later
Ransos I will do what I can with the house with regards insulation but it’s an old place not a new build + it’s in a national park so I’m a bit restricted with what I can do certainly externally I’m not sure I can get away with no direct heat sources. I will have a look though
cheers
29erKeithFree MemberDon’t suppose your doing the Bear Bones 200 next month are you?
29erKeithFree Memberoh btw I was thinking of using the pitched roof space for pellet storage with a hole and shoot to reload the week ish sized hopper
That way it’ll be easy reloading and not too much hassle to get it blown in there29erKeithFree MemberI had sort of used your set up as a bit of a template tbh backed up by a fair bit of reading on the net too. I’ve followed and bookmarked your previous threads already for reference
I’m only at really initial stages at the moment we don’t even move in until next month but will want to get planning rolling asap as the national park makes things a bit complicated.
I’ll certainly email you when I’m further down the line and thanks for the offer of a visit too, really kind, it’ll be really helpful before I get head on into it (sometime next year probably).
Where about in the country are you?29erKeithFree MemberI’ve run the Marathon+’s tubeless on 355’s with no problems
29erKeithFree Member+1 Marathon+’s
Over a year now and not one puncture yet! and I used to get a few with Conti’ Gator Skins
29erKeithFree MemberMe! I’ve got a couple now and no 26ers, I’m 6’2″ and find they fit me and my style of riding well.
I like them if you haven’t guessed ^ 🙄 , but I don’t expect or care particularly if anybody else does/doesn’t. I’m not pushing them or asking anyone to buy one, but am happy to let 29er curious mates a have go
that is all 🙂
29erKeithFree MemberI know that’s exactly how I feel about it too
But nothing else I can do.
Just rude and dishonest, annoyed but just want to warn others29erKeithFree MemberThanks to those that have been constructive.
I’ll leave -ve feedback (to warn other ebayers) and raise a dispute with ebay so I don’t get -ve or neutral, which was my only real concern.
29erKeithFree MemberI moved out with my girlfriend (now wife) and bought a house (no financial assistance) when we were 18 and 19 😯
seems crazy now, so lucky we did it when we did.
got a 100% mortgage with 10% cash back which covered the fees, our first house recently sold again for over 3 times what we bought it for 13 years agoIt is way harder for kids nowadays, some need a nudge though and some just never will
I work with a 36 year old stereotypical IT Geek! who still lives with his mum, he’s absolutely no intention of moving.
There’s a woman who I work with who mothers her 18 year old so much I don’t think he could actually cope on his own. She phones him up about midday everyday to wake him up tell him what she’s made him for lunch and to remind him to let the dog out, she makes and deals with all Dr’s and Dentist appointments and takes him to them too. Yesterday she was on the phone sorting out his Gym membership for him. FFS he’s 18!!! not 12!
He had a job working at Asda for a few weeks, only a few shifts, a friend of his recommended it to him apparently. But she got him to quit as she didn’t think is was right while he was at college 👿
If you hadn’t guessed everybody in the office knows all about her son’s lifeThere’s good reason why some will never move out, other than the country work and housing situations we have in the UK
OP not saying you mother yours daughter btw
as and when we have kids they’ll be given a deadline too 😈
29erKeithFree MemberI wouldn’t touch a smart for2 thats had much more than a Stg1 remap done to it. That’s speaking from experience, my wife’s was at 110bhp which was not good for the engine they really aren’t up to it even though there are people out there that’ll do it. just had a complete engine rebuild at <40k 😯 normally the engines are good for 60-70k before a rebuild (according to a smart specialist mechanic)
I do like it though, we’ll keep it now after sinking ££££’s into it perfect for the 2 of us and the bike rack is great. great little cars just watch out for the lemons don’t touch a 600 (turbo/manifold problems), 700’s are ok if driven sensibly and serviced properly. the new 1000s are a lot more robust engines.
29erKeithFree Memberbit worried about mine now, had ’em a few years now I ran then the wrong way (as indicated) for a year then heard (word of mouth) and swapped ’em round to the right way (opposite to arrow)
still a little concerned, really don’t want the disc folding on a decent one day.
OP hope you heal soon.
29erKeithFree MemberI put my 350D in the small prism shaped kit bag on the chest strap of my rucksack with a small extra home made second chest strap to stop the bottom flapping. works well and and I soon forget about it being there.
good for quick access, I found in the rucksack a PITA and I ended up not taking many photos as I couldn’t get it out quick enough when I wanted too/gave up and couldn’t be arsed with getting it in/out.
29erKeithFree MemberI like
“Know your limits. Then exceed them”
“Not now! Cancer, I’m busy…..I’ll definitely buy one, as when they’re available see if the mods will let you have a sticky for a week or so with details so people don’t miss it
For Charidee and all, not everybody’s on here as much as some29erKeithFree Memberyou don’t have to use UST tyres
I’m using std Continental MountainKings with no bother at all
stans rims, tape, no rimstrip, jizz and old valves cut from old tubestop up sealant and air every once and a while job done
might worth clearing out old sealant after a while too, I’ve done mine once after over a year of use and top ups, took out a whole bunch of thorns at the same time too
oh and I’ve got one of the repair kits but haven’t ever needed it, bit if sealant and air has sorted any issues I’ve had
29erKeithFree Memberno probs with mine only broken 1 in 2 years
and that was a rock-mech-wheel interface at speed which would have brocken just about any mech I suspect29erKeithFree Memberall depends on where your going/what riding etc
a long tour with panniers and a bit more weight = no worries
if your trying to do some more exciting riding too then the weight can be annoyinghorses for courses
29erKeithFree Memberit’ll take up a damn sight more room then water though
it’s not light, but if your happy to carry it then it’ll be fine.
load your bag/bike up and add a 1.5kilo amount of something of a similar bulk to try it, when bivying my tarp and bivy come in at about 700gish.
I’m big but no where as big as you I believe. when doing a mountain marathon or similar I use a terra nova laser comp @ <900gsurely it’s not bivying if you’re in a tent?
29erKeithFree MemberOP I think Stoner meant for what type of riding?
commuting, xc……..29erKeithFree MemberFriendly LBS may unofficially be able to help
I’ve a “friend” 😉 who got a commuter and had enough left in the budget to get a new set of forks for a mtb too.
all down to what the LBS puts on the form.
If you’re stuck to Halfords/Wheelies etc then you’ve no chance
29erKeithFree MemberYet another lurker here who’s read and followed from the beginning, all I can say is Inspirational and Congratulations!
29erKeithFree MemberWhy FS? Would a 100mm hardtail not suit better (from the description of your riding)?
Most xc only riders don’t bother with FS a HT will be a lot lighter and cheaper/more pimped for your budget
each to their own though…
29erKeithFree MemberI’ve got a pair, 180front on a 29er reba and 160 rear, XC hardtail with XT brakes, superstar sintered pads
nice and light and work plenty well enough for me (90kg give or take)
I can’t say I can feel pulsing but they do have a very distinct sound and I could believe the pulsing some report, how much of an actual issue it is not sure.btw there was a batch with the direction arrows the wrong way so pay attention when fitting ’em if you get some. I ran mine the wrong way for a while, I hadn’t noticed until a mate mentioned it and I swapped ’em around a few weeks later.
note I didn’t die! 🙄29erKeithFree Memberbetter than nothing! with carbon filter it will capture a fair amount of grease which would otherwise end up in the air and settling on the cupboard tops etc
but duct if at all possible
[Edit] mine recirculates and in hindsight would have made more effort at sorting a duct [/Edit]
29erKeithFree Memberimo finish near home if possible, after a long day/2/3’s riding a long journey home’s not what you want.
there will be a few bits on a touring bike which won’t be nice, all depends what sort of time your hoping to do it in really
29erKeithFree Membercheers all, I dropped a letter through the door this morning.
fingers crossed they’ve not instructed an estate agent yet and they’re interested
29erKeithFree Memberlocal council funded scheme down south somewhere paid to send some addicts to a monastry in Thailand I think it was to clean up. Very regimented and they had to drink this vile natural substance which basicly made them sick everyday.
apparently had good results, if thats the case then money well spent imo
[Edit] Here’s the article on the BBC [/Edit]
29erKeithFree Memberindustry one is World Cargo News
our local news letter though is…..
Quay People 🙄29erKeithFree MemberGator skins are ok, had a half a dozen flats in a year on my short commute
then changed to Marathon+ not had one since in well over a year
so +1 for Marathon+’s from me
29erKeithFree MemberI’m looking for something very similar to the OP too
past a garage last night on my ride home which had a Laguna 1.9TDI estate
anybody got any comments on them as an option also?
saw a 307 estate too but it made me want to poke sticks into my eyes so that’s out for me already the Laguna looks ok though29erKeithFree MemberWhisked up egg whites as if your making meringue folded in
like this Orange and Almond cakeI promise you will be one of the lightest moistest tastiest cakes you’ve ever had
