ok cheers might be in touch in a months or so once the clocks change
29erKeithFree Membergreat cheers
Smudge, while you’re here how much roughly will it cost to replace/repair four AyUp battery leads with dodgy connections?
29erKeithFree Memberabsolutely inspired!
I am making one of those bad boys this weekend 8)
29erKeithFree Membergreat cheers I’ll drop him a line
I’ve got enough that do work until the clocks change so I’ll try to send the lights to AyUp and batteries to smudge at the same time as they’re used pretty often hence the problems
cheers
K.29erKeithFree Memberoliverd1981 yep that’s what our straddle carriers do pretty much, the first diesel electric drives came in here about 6 years ago ish
they are becoming more refined though29erKeithFree MemberDidn’t see Top Gear, but it sounds like most of our machinery at work uses a similar system, they’re diesel electric drives.
The engine is on the top (12-14 litre v6 turbo diesel) and just has a generator coupled almost directly off the end of the crank I believe. Four of the eight wheels are electrical driven all 8 wheels steer. The engine has 2 speeds idle and Go! The hoist and hydraulics are all electrically driven too, our newest ones have energy recovery systems also from breaking and lowering the containers etc a bit like a Prius. MPG is still shocking though, improving but they’re big machines with heavy loads.[Edit]They don’t use batteries as such but do have some form of giant capacitors for short term storage[/Edit]
29erKeithFree MemberYeah there’s loads about.
Open adventure are some of the best IMO especially the 12 and 24 especially. I’d really like to do their C2C and Terrex maybe next year (new house and baby on the way makes ’em unlikely options this year)
maybe make a few of the southern 5’s though-Endurance life are good, C2C(Extreme) had a few organisation issues last year though, the few others of theirs that I’ve done have been spot on though.

Ace races (formats not what they were though when Phil was in charge)
Rat racesdynamic adventure closed unfortunately
loads about really
Sleepmonsters.co.uk is a good place to look for stuff
or there are a fair few Duathlons/Dirty Duathlons apearingThe Tri based companies seem priciest the AR and LDWA/Ultra type one’s often seem better VFM imo
29erKeithFree MemberI’ve got a mate in China who uses a pay for proxy service
they’re not that expensive
depends if it’s a one off/short trip or a long term arrangement29erKeithFree MemberA woman I work with drinks these (with a tea spoon in a china cup, chink chink all day BLOODY DAY AARRGGGGHHH! 👿 )
She believes they make fat and calories just pass through her body so always indulges in the birthday cakes etc
29erKeithFree MemberSet up a pc with the big screen the remote in to whichever persons machine for the demo and drive their pc from there.
29erKeithFree MemberI won a car on ebay 130k, Vreg, Passat Estate, advertised with “No Reserve!”
The following day after I’d won and had paid £10 for one of those car check things he emailed me and said “sorry it didn’t go for as much as I thought so I’m not selling it to you” that’s what a reserve is for Idiot!left -ve feedback and complained to ebay, they said there’s nothing they could do, errrr how about deleting his account.
29erKeithFree MemberI had great success with mine (Stephen Jones in Southampton), sorted a long running injury I just couldn’t shake. Didn’t take too long to adjust to ’em at all no major aches along the way. I only used mine for road running after the initial phase. I don’t use them off road 1 ‘cos they don’t fit any of my trail shoes and 2 never felt the need off road personally
good luck with ’em
29erKeithFree MemberYou’ll never win with them, they’re anti-cycling (god know why!) and won’t change. Thanks to anyone that fights our corner but I think you’d have as much luck at getting Clarkson to Cycle to work.
I call it home too and home is on a very frequently used roadie route, we get plenty of groups small and large every weekend up and down our road, as well as horses from the fields and stables behind my house, as yet I’ve not seen any bother, not lived there long though, we’ll see how it goes through the summer as numbers increase in both camps.
gobby idiots in all walks of life, just try to get on with it and don’t let ’em ruin your day 8)
29erKeithFree Memberohhh the dealextreme stuff looks good cheers
why didn’t I look there first 🙄 I even mentioned in in my OP@Rio absolutely no street lighting + I want to be able to get a bit of gardening done in the evenings which is a bit difficult without some proper light I’ve done a few bits with my ay-ups but a decent flood would be sooo much better and It’ll only be on now and then when I’m doing stuff
29erKeithFree Membercheers all, £100 is a bit much at the mo for the Steinel, I can’t be bothered with DIY light stuff 😳 , new house I’ve got enough DIY to do as it is. Off the shelf is what I was after.
I was quite supprised there wasn’t more about, B&Q didn’t have a single energy saving flood light and only a couple of CFL lights which are just about good enough to see a path and not much else
there’re 101 different options for in house energy saving lights but a pretty small and bad range of stuff for outside lights
29erKeithFree Member2 sets of 4 desks with an AC unit directly above the centre of each set of 4, centrally controlled, all set with low fans and are all brand new units which gently diffuse the air as much as any can (according to the AC engineer) so we’re all in more or less similar positions in relation to the units themselves.
3 sets of digital thermometers placed around the office, they’ll all be within a degree of 24 be she “doesn’t believe them” and still insists it’s freezing and wants it cranked up to 28!
and to top it all off she’s Scottish and used to live in the north of Canada for a few years and we’re all “Southern Softies”The company’s spent thousands trying to shut her moaning up and failed
both AC units changes twice in the last 4 years all worked okrant over 😆
she gets right on my wick!29erKeithFree MemberI’m generally a hot person too
I work in an office with a mental post menopausal woman who refuses to stop making exaggerated shivering noises hourly if the temperature’s anything less than 26degrees 👿
A couple of times a day she’ll switch on a fan on her desk when she has a hot flush though. 95% of the time though she tries to set the AC to 28! + she’s got a 3KW heater under her desk. She thinks we’re the most unreasonable people in the world wanting the AC set to a sensible 23-24 🙄
29erKeithFree Memberin training especially company is a big help I find
find somebody like minded of a similar pace or a local club maybe29erKeithFree MemberNowt wrong with eating cake if your doing enough exercise. Half the reason I run and ride as much as I do, I’d be a right fatty otherwise 🙄
80k’s a good session, depends a lot on the route, most or the ultra distance stuff is off road so conditions and times vary massively
As a guide personally on an hilly but not mountainous route I’d be about 9 hours ish, double average marathon time and add a 3rd as a guide
29erKeithFree Memberyeah that’ll do it, that’s loads of time
I went from doing my first 10k to marathon distance in 3 months
29erKeithFree Memberok fair enough, personally I’ve never had any problems with the roval stuff
29erKeithFree MemberThis stuff it’s what I use on my 355’s
Same stuff really, right width, feels and performs exactly the same as the Stans it’s just a different colour
Cheaper and twice the amount on a roll29erKeithFree MemberI went a few years back on a 2 week activity holiday. Mtbing in the mornings, early at that too, before it got too hot, back in time for breakfast then watersports during the day. Had a great time, i’d certainly go back. Good riding too. We stayed on korchela an island down the dalmation coast
29erKeithFree MemberXBox is cheaper yes but, remember that to play online you need to keep paying monthly/yearly or whatever
PS3 is free
+ PS3 imo is more versatile, mine gets used more for the media side of things than the games though.what do his mates have though?
that’s probably your answer tbh29erKeithFree MemberYeah you probably need these
and no you don’t really need a SS specific chainring or chain but they’ll do no harm at all
29erKeithFree MemberThe bigger ones come with a Velcro strap for the seat post, I assume the Micro doesn’t have that?
29erKeithFree MemberSome people’s counts are higher than others, yours will be at a safe and normal level you’ve just not got as many spare as some have.
I stopped as mine had dropped for a few donations in a row + was going travelling. I’ll get re-tested they might have gone up, they might not have, they fluctuate naturally.
If they’re not up I’ll do whole bloody, if they’re up then I’ll do Platelets.
29erKeithFree MemberCynic-al +1
50+ donations here, must get back on to them to get retested and start again.
29erKeithFree Member@John1973
some hospitals do have a permanent blood donor suite. Southampton general does anyway. It’s primarily there for Platelet donors but they do normal blood donations too. It’s probably got 6-7 platelet beds and 2-3 for normal blood donors which actually didn’t used to get used that much been a bit over a year since I’ve been though.
@Pugwash do you have local hospital with a donor base? I find them much more personal than the mobile ones, which as you say can leave you with a long wait and then be a bit rushed. (not the Staffs fault I might add, they’re doing a great job)
29erKeithFree MemberI applied to my next local donation yesterday and there’s no room 🙁
Must have been the BBC article giving people a kick, which is great. I’ll try booking in to the next one.O RH+
I’ve always donated and even donated platelets every 4-5weeks for a number of years too. I’m only just eligible again after a lot of travelling just over a year ago now.Personally I usually cycle to/from my donations (not my first half a dozen) and haven’t ever had any trouble, but I know it really seems to affect some people. One of my mates has tried twice but felt really faint for a long time afterwards. so was told to not come back again, which he was really disappointed about as he really want to be able to do it.
There’s a massive percentage of the population that can but don’t which is a shame.
Hope you’ve all got donor cards too (those of you than can/believe in it), remember we have to opt in at the moment, if you don’t have one /aren’t on the list they won’t.
29erKeithFree MemberYeah i’ve run with a cast on no probs apart from the smell which you can do nothing about and can’t get away from. No amount of deoderant/fabreze can even touch it.
29erKeithFree MemberPersonally I use Ay-Ups but my mate that I run with every weeks’s just bought one of those Lenser H7’s, Bloody Brilliant!!
Cheap (£40ish), Lite, Bright and runs plenty long enough for all but Ultra distances. It’s got adjusters for the beam pattern and power.
I’m thinking I’l buy one myself as my Petzl Myo spare has packed in after years and my Ay-Up’s will be going for an upgrade in the New year
29erKeithFree MemberI went down the pannier route a bit over a month ago after moving and having a longer commute now and I go via the supermarket on my home
I went for a Topeak super tourist disc rack and a pair of OrtliebsI’ve been very happy with them but haven’t really tried any others personally
29erKeithFree MemberChugg08 In a very similar vain I’ve thought about sorting out some stickers to put on windscreen of Car’s/Vans which park consistently on pavements/cycle route cause obstructions. There are a few on my commute which bug me
29erKeithFree MemberCool all sounds good, cheers
See you all there
Have a good ChristmasK.
29erKeithFree MemberGiven the time of year, local conditions and the area IMO SS would be the best option
I doubt anyone with gears or not will make much over the other at all29erKeithFree MemberStill planned to Start from St cross P&R?
what sort of time?
