I’ve had the Hopes quite a while now, when they’re working well they’re very good but there’s too many rides when they’re not tip top. Everything I’ve read and from people who have used both seem to come down on the side of the Guides especially for the price that I can get them. Once I’ve sold the Hopes I’d be in profit.

What I’ve read about the disk is that the caliper has to have a small portion filed down to allow for the floating disk to spin.

If you’re wanting to save money avoid an RX8.

Had one when nearly new and got rid after only 3 months. Actually replaced it with a Type R which I loved and cost literally half as much to run.

Completely agree it really annoys me; although not as much as the fools (usually in grey cars) that drive in the fog with no lights on at all.

Fog lights in the rain are super annoying as well.

Also cars with daylight running lights as standard sometimes are set where front lights illuminate all the time but no rear lights on.

cheers gents, I’m starting lean back towards the Spank. It’s just the rims I’m after and they’ll be built onto hope hubs which are hardly used so should get a few years use at least.

If I can get a 2.8 tyre through my pikes I’ll be rolling on them eventually I hope.

leegee:- Thanks for the response on the side of the Spank. Those weights are lighter than the Spank web page quotes for their own rim which is good to know.

How long have you been running them and how are are they holding up? I’m not too hard on rims or maybe I’ve just been quite lucky thus far, but I have just gone from full sus back to hardtail as my only bike so am slightly wary. I do prefer the look of the Spank though.

Poah:- I know the flow are 40g lighter each wheel, but didn’t realise they’d be much stronger than the Oozy.

Lawnman91:- Thats a promising build weight, Flows would probably still come in under 1900g.

Maybe being different isn’t the way to go and to play safe with the Flows.

Cheers for the responses, I did look at the DT Swiss options but i need to be able to get them from CRC as I’m banking on a refund for a Reverb and they don’t seem to have many options for DT Swiss rims.

I’m not wasting my time on another reverb as I’ve had two fail in very short time, the second one without going for an actual ride. So plan is to try the Brand X Ascend and the rest of the money go towards new rims. Myself I’m leaning to the Oozy 345 just to be a little different. There weight looks good and I’ve only heard good things about they’re strength. Plus I like how they look.

Garmin 735XT is superb. Doesn’t look too bad on the wrist, almost discreet unlike the Fenix 3. Heart rate monitor on the wrist which is good for general use although chest strap is much improved on an off road bike.

Battery lasts a week easily even when using GPS for at least an hour everyday. GPS can be used in an eco mode to conserve battery or is completely off when using the device just as a watch.

    GPS fix pretty much instantly.

Good smart notifications, text msgs, phone calls etc so phone can always be on silent and just have watch on vibrate which is nice. Good general activity / sleep tracker.

Also has triathlon setting. Useful as I’m stupidly doing an Ironman next year after a year with minimal training due to injury. Battery life when using full GPS full time is roughly 14 hours, I’m aiming for sub 16 hr on the Ironman. Doh.

Professor Cornellius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin is superb although I have only tried the normal strength version.

Also something very different but beautiful is Pinkster Gin. Serve with some frozen raspberries, fresh mint and decent tonic and you have a fine drink.

Maybe have a look at the sv1000 as well, not hugely fast but great torque making overtakes very easy in any gear.

I use mine to commute and find it very economical. Fuel light only comes on after 145miles (about 40-50 miles left) and thats with luggage. Also very cheap on insurance, I’d had a few years away from riding so had no no-claims and am paying just over £200 fully comp with commuting 10000 miles a year.

Plus what a fantastic noise from a pair of A16 cans!

If you have a smart phone it can link to a wifi enabled GoPro and be used as a remote shutter and viewfinder but I find shooting more on gut and experience is a far more enjoyable way of using it than lining up the perfect shot. It makes a nice carefree change from using the DSLR.

Plus I’ve just ordered the dog mount for my springer spaniel no lining up images there just video/photos fired off randomly and they’ll be some amazing video/photos of that I have no doubt.

I was in two minds whether to buy a fish eye lens for my DSLR while also being tempted by a GoPro to go cycling etc with me. I did some research and found out how strong the camera capability is for the GoPro and the fact its almost a fish eye lens so I just dived in and got the top spec GoPro at the time the 3 Black. Which has been perfect plus cheaper than a DSLR fish eye lens for my Nikon.

As its a very wide angle lens almost fish eye effect so it captures pretty much everything that is in front of it. Obviously you have to use you legs/arms/poles etc as your zoom capability but for family photos thats not required on the whole.

I tend to have it set that when i fire the remote it takes 3 photos over 1 second i think it is which means i usually get a usable shot out of those 3. I’m not shy when it comes to firing shots though, i spent a couple of hours at Thomas Land yesterday with my family and took approx 220 photos, out of them I have about 40 very good family memories that look very different from the usual hum drum photos you see people posting on Facebook or Instagram.

If you go on Instagram and do a GoPro search you’ll see the type of photos you can easily achieve with them. Just don’t get the lower spec ones as the various Black Editions are so very much better for not much more money.

Everyone who states that these styles of cameras are redundant if you don’t do some sort of extreme sport etc aren’t looking at the big picture. The camera is the market leading sports video camera, but its also a truly great family point and shoot camera!!

I have the GoPro Hero 3 with wifi remote and it is the best camera I have for taking on family days out bar none. Set it to camera mode which is superb with the almost fish eye style lens; stick it on some sort of retractable pole and you can take all the family photos you need firing the camera using the remote. Nobody gets left out of any image or you don’t have to ask a stranger every two seconds to take a photo of you and your family/friends.

The images do need to go through a program like Adobe Lightroom to bring the best out of them but this can be said about any camera (especially very high end DSLRs). Plus in my view most photos need some sort of “photoshopping” in order to get the colours contrast etc correct. Its nothing to be ashamed of as back in the day when it was film photography, images were still manipulated in a darkroom.

Another positive by sticking it on a pole is getting some crazy camera angles, its always a way more interesting image if its taken from a slightly different point of view than what is normally seen.

I know the images aren’t as dynamic as an SLR I’m aware of this as sports photography is a major hobby of mine but its just as good if not better than a lot of the pointlessly high MP point and shoot cameras on the market.

GoPro in my view has the most accessories available to make the camera more suitable to being used out of the sports environment. Where other brands have mounts designed for sports, GoPro has mounts designed for more sports plus many others on top of that more companies are jumping on the GoPro “brand” wagon and designing new cost effective mounts and accessories.

In my view always get the best GoPro thats available at the time; they are usually a lot more powerful and come with wifi remote included (saves £70ish in future) which is vital for using out and about with friends and family. The IOS App doesn’t cut the mustard in this respect.

It seems to have turned into a bit of an advert for GoPro but the cameras are really that usable!

I’ve just ordered a mini retina 32gb. I can’t ever imagine requiring more than 32gb to keep apps etc on then just purchase an iusbport to enable you to connect your portable hdd, usb pen drives or SD cards via an addhoc wireless network. I think I could have probably got away with the 16gb to be fair.

Day 1 – God created light and separated the light from the darkness, calling light “day” and darkness “night.”

Day 2 – God created an expanse to separate the waters and called it “sky.”

Day 3 – God created the dry ground and gathered the waters, calling the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters “seas.” On day three, God also created vegetation (plants and trees).

Day 4 – God created the sun, moon, and the stars to give light to the earth and to govern and separate the day and the night. These would also serve as signs to mark seasons, days, and years.

Day 5 – God created every living creature of the seas and every winged bird, blessing them to multiply and fill the waters and the sky with life.

Day 6 – God created the animals to fill the earth. On day six, God also created man and woman (Adam and Eve) in his own image to commune with him. He blessed them and gave them every creature and the whole earth to rule over, care for, and cultivate.

Day 7 – God had finished his work of creation and so he rested on the seventh day, blessing it and making it holy.

Day 1 would not be possible without Day 4 happening?? There is no light or days without the sun! Lost me at Day 1, its ridiculous.

I’ve just gone from CCDB coil to the new Fox Float X; although i have not tried it on anything to severe so far i’m more than happy with it. Plus it’s about 0.65kg lighter.

[quoteThe remote seems pointless. With such a superb app to control the camera, it seems like an expensive extra.

Other than brilliant HD film quality the remote is the one thing that makes the GoPro truly usable as a wonderful stills camera. I’m a keen photographer and the images i’m getting with the GoPro mounted on a GoPole, Gorilla Pod, helmet, chest are truly awesome. The app is ok but i quickly got frustrated with the difficulty to find the shutter button when wanting to concentrate on the action that i wanted to capture. Plus why would you want to risk damaging your phone when a rugged waterproof remote is there waiting for you to use!

Depends how strong he is, i’d guess 12kg will be more than enough initially but will prob need a 16 shortly after. You don’t want to go too heavy too early as he needs to get the movements correct first.

I find that some exercises i’m using 12s, some 16s and some 20s all in the same work out.

I’m just starting out with kettlebells, its more of a CV workout as its not done by reps but time. In one session you hit all of your body but especially your legs.

The use of kettlebells is almost as old as the hills, used extensively by the russian military and their training isn’t too be sniffed at! They are good to have at home as they don’t take up much space and also make useful door stops!!

On the height of the bike, I’m 6,1 and it was and it was a great fit, with quite low foot pegs so your not bunched up and can walk at the end of a days riding.

I had a cb600f as above as my first bike. Brilliant bike to for a new rider with enough grunt and fun to keep you interested as you gain experience.

I didn’t commute on mine but my wife and i did go on our honeymoon on it and it performed without fault; and there was plenty of day long ride outs and i never wished i was on one of the sports bikes the others were on. No aching wrists for me!

Obviously as a naked bike wind blast is always going to be an issue but I had the honda flyscreen fitted which did help a lot, although other larger screens are available from companies like Givi. Motorway journeys at motorway speeds were no pain at all, although i wouldn’t exactly say enjoyable. The best buy I did make though to help on motorways on colder days was heated grips which are amazing but I twinned them with a pair of “grip shields” (i can’t remember the correct name) but they actually suited the bike and kept the wind off my hands; a true Godsend! The large 19l tank with fuel gauge (a lot of bikes don’t have a gauge) gave between 110 and 160 miles depending on fun had which was more often than not further than many of my mates got.

Overall super bike and I miss mine greatly compounded as I don’t have a bike at all at the moment.

Can’t believe cockers are getting bigger because then they are just becoming springers again. Both were the same breed but the smallest springers were pared producing the smaller dog before they got recognised as a breed of their own. There are very strict size limits to dogs so as soon as a size change trend occurs then it effects the ehole breed clasification.

Upper end of the market suggest your going on price which sounds like the show variant and not the working bloodline. They are very different dogs to look at and are much larger.
