Dundee is currently under 2 – 3ft of snow depending on ur location in Dundee. No buses running and very few roads have been cleared.

Snowing heavy again. Dug my car out 3 times Monday, twice yesterday and again today, it was up to the axles in snow.

Not a bad idea at all mate, im pretty sure somebody could come up with a fitment to attach a snow plough, bung on a set of winter tyres and id do it.

And what! Sit and get more stuck? We have home and families aswell. Like i said 99% of the time it is the employer putting the pressure on the driver to get home.

Maybe people like u need to remember that our job involves driving all day every day in all conditions, and that Sometimes conditions change overnight, so a journey that started out in good conditions ended up treacherous and the only option was to try and get home. Nobody wants to be stuck in a truck with no food, no bedding (depending on the truck), not much in the way of heat and miles from home.

Cars are no more suited to these conditions, very much driver dependant. I had to push, tow and shunt many a car driver bck on the road last winter when i was up the North of Scotland in 4 – 5 ft snow drifts! And guess what i was driving? Yep a 44 tonne articulated lorry!

I was the vehicle making tracks for everybody else, i beat the snow ploughs. It was very slippy but like i said, a light right foot, hight gear, diff lock and driver awareness, i managed just fine. Saw far more abandoned cars than HGV’s.

Thanks j_me, some people can’t see past the end of their noses or don’t consider other people!

We do try. I dnt keep the shops stocked up, i do keep the distilliries in oil though, as well as oil to the ferries and bitumen to quarries all over Scotland.

Well done me i say! Ha ha.

    Chrisdb..

Do you think the lorry drivers want to be out in this weather? Perhaps it is the employers as opposed to the employees wanting the drivers to go out in these conditions.

Alot of companies in the transport industry have an attitude like “well if u don’t go out and do the job ill find somebody who will, clear ur truck out and don’t let the door hit u on the way out”

Have you ever driven a truck? Let alone in the snow? Yes there are bad drivers out there but for every bad lorry driver i see 10 **** in cars driving worse!

Always causing chaos? or are you just an arse in a car cutting up drivers, tailgaiting, undertaking, jumping lights and general skullduggery.

Please excuse us lorry drivers for trying to make a living, let us know your joiurney details so we can all get off the road to let u drive in a faultless manner!

Without trucks how would your bike bits get to the shops? Or how would your laptop have reached you to post frankly stupid generalizations!

Life would be far easier without halfwits posting stuff like that when we are all having to endure the conditions to make a living.

Rant over, back to normal life now.

    Hi again people,

Thanks again for all your help and input so far, i have just sent him this email.

I hope i have covered everything and it gets the point across sufficiently.

I posted it to his ebay memners address and to his personal email which is…..lol. better not.

    Email i sent…

I have given you the opportunity to admit liability for the van and to offer me a refund or at the least the cost of repair, but you have failed to reply to any of my emails or text messages, which i feel is adding insult to injury as you were clearly aware of the severity of the gearbox issue prior to selling the van to myself.

I have done some research into your dealings and i believe you are a small trader as opposed to a private seller, i have found 3 vehicles on ebay plus 4 on Gumtree aswell as an advert for collecting unwanted/scrap vehicles!

As a motor trader of any size you have obligations and condition of sale to abide by, i have rights either way and i am entitled to a full refund for the van.. See below.

Your rights when buying from a dealer
When you buy from a dealer, the law says a car must be of satisfactory quality. It must meet the standard a reasonable person would regard as acceptable, taking into consideration:

    the way it was described

    how much it cost

the age and the mileage of the vehicle

    This covers things like:

    appearance and finish (paintwork)

    safety

    durability (how strong they are)

The car must be free from problems, except where they were pointed out to you by the seller. The car must also be as described. So if the advert says ‘air conditioning’, then the car should have this feature and it should work.
The car should also be reasonably fit for any normal purpose, which means it should get you from one place to another. The car should also be reasonably fit for any other purpose you specify..

So to simplify that means that as you knew the gearbox was faulty yet failed to mention it at the point of sale i am entitled to a full refund…

Your rights when you buy from a private seller
The car must be as described.
If a private seller lies about the condition of a car, you can take them to court and sue for your losses.

So to simplify thay means that as you knew the gearbox was faulty yet failed to mention it at the point of sale i am entitled to a full refund…

I have taken copies of all your adverts and your ebay feedback plus you gumtree adverts and you advert to collect unwanted cars as evidence for my legal proceedings, not to mention the fact i will contact Customs and Excise to find out where all you cash in hand deals go, im sure he will be delighted to see the number of vehicles you sell as a supposidly “private” seller, and to claim the tax back you are undoubtly due!

The simple resolve to this is to come and pick the van up at the weekend and give me the full sale price back.

Another bit of usefull info for you…

    Are they a dealer?
Some dealers pretend to be private sellers to avoid their legal obligations and get rid of faulty or over-priced cars. Warning signs to look out for include:

adverts which give a mobile phone number or say a time to call (it may be a public phone box, not the seller’s home) (LIKE YOU)

the same phone number appears in several adverts (LIKE YOU)

the seller wants to bring the car to you

when you get to the seller’s home, there are a lot of cars for sale on the street (LIKE YOUR WORK PLACE)

If the seller is really a dealer, then your full legal rights apply. (PLEASE NOTE)

What to do if things go wrong
    Making a complaint
Use Consumer Direct’s template letters to make a complaint about a car-buying issue

Car template letters Opens new window
Always try and resolve any problems you have with the seller of the vehicle. If you aren’t satisfied and the dealer is a member of a trade association, then contact Motor Codes Limited or the trade association for advice.
If you are still not satisfied you can take the seller to go to court. This may often be the case if you have been dealing with a private seller.

I have been more than patient with you Dean but you have failed to comply or reply or even stand up and admit you are in the wrong (did you think id would just forget about it?), like i said i have all the evidence i need here, plus i know you place of work, ebay have been contacted and i have already contacted Citizens Advice who have said i have a case to sue and recover my money. Im hoping it will not not come to this but i feel it may…

I will give you until Wednseday night to get back to me with a satisfactory resolve (i.,e, my money back in full), if i do not hear from you then i will have no option but to take legal proceedings against you to recover the cash.

    Mike Donald.

Im not hopeful that ill hear from him but you never know.

    Hi Hora,

He has sold a couple of cars before and currently has 3 vehicles for sale now. He took me to his work place to do the deal, it is a vehicle workshop in Cramlington.

Im guessing by the other vehicles he has that he must buy and sell cars.

Anybody near Cramlington want to pay him a visit?

    Thanks for the input guys,

I have emailed him and txt him again..but no reply, so im guessing it is a case of..on your bike mate (which i will have to do now) ill just ignore you…until you go away.

There was definately no mention of the gearbox in the item description or in the email, but like somebody said how can i prove he said that? or the fact he said it was doing it the other day.

Time to cut my losses perhaps? I have the van for sale on pistonheads so hopefully ill get it sold, i emailed him asking for £200 – £300 for the supply, fit and setup of gearbox, plus a bit of a goodwill gesture….again…ignored.

I dont think im being unreasonable..

    Thanks again guys.

It actually does make a difference once you get past the slower truck as the road ahead is clear and the driver doesn’t have to drive 2 feet away from the truck in front like a “****”, i certainally don’t tailgait and don’t condone it but in order to pass the slower truck you need to get in its slipstream much like racing cars do as this makes the pass easier.

Perhaps the driver maybe just wants home a bit quicker after a long week/day. I bet you never sit right up the arse end of trucks where they cant see you tho do you? Or overtake at the 200 yard marker for a junction then cut in front of the truck and go up the exit? Or think that as a car driver you can fly up the outside lane when approaching roadworks then expect an hgv to let you in, then when it doesnt give the driver abuse? Or give them no room on roundabouts…i could go on.

We are just trying to do our job, it is hard enough without you “expert ” drivers passing comment on things you more than likely know nothing about!

Without trucks you get NOTHING, no bike bits, no computers to post daft messages on forums..

Lets live in harmony, peace nd love man :-P

Back to your life citizens, nothing too see here.

Why do we have stupid litle LED displays? Why do we spend mega bucks on pimpy bike bits, fancy brakes etc..because we can and because it personalises the truck..after all we spend most of the day and week in it so its nice to make it nice..much like decorating a house i suppose.

Yeah Si has been ace to deal with so far. Answered all my questions and been very helpful.

I looked at the spitfire aswell, prefer the look of the covert or geo tho.

I have ridden a Blur Lt, owned a 5, and ridden lots of other bikes, i like a single pivot for the simplicity but the multi bars do ride smoother. I found the covert to be quite short in the tt and that was a medium? I usually ride a small being 5ft 5/6.

I used to be good at making decisions aswell!

Being a resident in Dundee i will try and pass on my opinion of the city.

I grew up in Carnoustie but moved out due to the small town mentality, small fish in big ponds, everybody knowing your business, seemingly becoming full of twa##, and the good old rumour mill being in full functioning order..don’t miss it one bit, only go there to visit family and friends now, No socialising..

I did move to Forfar for a bit….momentary lapse in concentration!

    Anyway Dundee,

I have lived here for a while now and lived at both ends, i stayed on Laird street near Clatto country park, nice area where i was but a bit dodgy round the Ardler area. I never had any problems mind you so i guess it comes down to how you come across to other people, tolerance and how much attention you pay to other people.

I then moved into the Morgan street area as i got a flat with my partner, it was our first place together and near to her work…..Now while i liked the flat and our closey (tenament), the area itself was full of..well not very nice people, alot of unemployment and substance abuse in the area..plus a problem with “business” ladies, which was stamped out by the police to be fair.

We recently moved to a nice wee cottage on the Perth road, it is like a different city, nice and quiet as we are set back off the road, sorrounder by gardens, Perth road shops/pubs are nice, close to Magdelane green which is a big park where people have bbq’s in the summer and sit and soak up the sun (when it shines) and look out over the Tay to Fife.

Dundee and sorrounding areas have alot to offer, granted during the 90’s and early 00’s the place was a bit of a dive, but now the majority of the city has been revamed, redesigned and tidied up. They are continuing to improve the city and its facilities all the time, everything you need in in Dundee, good shops in the centre of town, good retail parks on the outskirts, sorrounded by good walks, biking, beaches and hills.

The people in the majority are friendly, the traffic is never that bad, Edinburgh is 1 hour away, Glasgow is 1.5 hours away, good road and rail links, good bike shops nearby aswell..Cycle World in Arbroath, Bikeworx in Dundee, Alpine bikes in Perth to name just 3. Laggan wolftrax is 2 hours up the A9, Fort Bill is 3 hours max, Glentress is 2 hours max..loads of good riding closer to hand aswell. Dundee has a good Ice rink, swimming pool, cinemas, nice parks, good country parks within 30 mins drive, plenty eatries and nice wee pubs aswell. Sure there are minging bits, but it is the same wherever you go, Dundee has got a crappy reputation from it’s past, all change now though.

Rental prices are reasonable, we were paying £435 in Morgan Street, payng a bit more now but worth the extra for peace and quiet, you will easily be able to rent a good 3 bed property for £650. Broughty Ferry will be more expensive, as will Carnoustie. In my opinion you can’t go far wrong with Dundee if you pick the right area.

Hope that has helped you a bit and hasn’t bored you, im pretty sure you will enjoy living here (stick to the west end of the city though).

If you require and further info please feel free to email me at mikedonald@hotmail.com.

    Thanks,

    Mike.
