The bombhole isn’t/ never was sketchy. I think people are referring to the roll in to the main trail which can be dangerous for an inexperienced rider who didn’t see it coming.

Set Cruise Control on car then spend the entire journey disengaging and re-engaging it to avoid accidents with the other drivers who speed past then slow down. I didn’t bother with it on my new car…

Its the same when walking though. If you come up gradually behind someone who is walking at similar pace as you, you put on a spurt to get past. You then slow down to your preferred pace only to find them passing you again. People do this to me everyday on my walk to work.

Some real classics on here. M25 at night you will see hundreds of cars driving in lanes 3 or 4 with lanes 1 and 2 empty. A3 or M3 at a quiet-ish time of day/night most cars will be driving in the middle lane with the inside lane empty. Yet everyone seems to complain about it. Who are all these people then?

    Feedback from owner Paul

Police car chase last night in pursuit of driver travelling at over 100mph mounted pavement and got wedged between trees and shop – took out Cycleopedia shop front and cafe next door (that Paul owns)

Many bikes stolen due to shop being left ‘open’ but looks like only new ones on display in front showroom

Shop should end up being improved with central wall removed and new shopfronts

    Shop still open for business

I did think about some scrote perhaps nicking my bikes then thinking “I’m gasping for a cup of tea”…

    Feeling a bit better now… :D

He should have been a headmaster at my school where one of the pupils was murdered in the playground. Terrible business. The guy that did it was another pupil and ended up dying in prison a few years later.

I’m 6ft and ride a medium 2005 Stumpy S-works. 70mm stem and lay back post. It has the perfect amount of chuckability. It is probably the most fun mountain bike I’ve ever ridden.

I’d pay to watch someone do deliverance on a penny farthing.

Anyone know the couple who ride the Ellsworth tandem? They go down Deliverance on that. Bonkers…

A great way is just to tag onto a group who know the area. Maps/GPS are of limited use when you want a nice flowing ride. Lots of new trails too over pitch/winterfold way.

I’ve seen a combo that fits that description (Surrey Hills natch).

Being a Surrey Hills rider I’ve seen a 911 and an Aston V8 with bikes crammed in the back. My mate with the Aston then bought a Nissan GTR and has yet to find a way to get his bike into it… what a frightful pain in the posterior it is (don’t you know)

Chest mount always make it look fast. Proximity to objects then intensifies sensation of speed.

I used to live on Stoke Road and cycled every Sunday from my front door to Leith Hill and back. Very straightforward ride and over time you can learn the diversions off the main NDW to get a bit more fun into the bargain. There used to be (and probably still is) a jump/ play area on the way to Newlands Corner from the golf course. I found Guildford however to be a little bit too rural and I moved back toward London.

Kala Pattar (5,643 m /18,514 ft) taken on a trek I did in 2009. Everest just off to the left.

Day before 33rd birthday I had to do a very quick move out of my g/f’s house while she was out (long story…) and put all my stuff in storage as I had nowhere to go. So my birthday morning consisted of waking up on a friend’s sofa 30 miles away and trying to figure out how to get a train to work and find somewhere to live whilst simultaneously receiving death threats from my (now ex) g/f.

Raleigh Maverick on the farm 1986. That wing mirror was the height of fashion (although DIY attempts at tie-dying with Mum’s Domestos was not).

Funny, I had a good customer experience at KF last week too. Tyre fitted in no time and very friendly and attentive service. It’s hard to believe but it’s true. Perhaps the times they are a changing…

But the best thing about KF is always the people that come in to reception while you’re waiting. In 10 mins I saw:

A man ask if they would drive to his car a mile away to change the wheel (“Er no Sir its the RAC you want”)

A woman ask if her exhaust was really necessary and if they could just take the old one off she could be on her way without it.

A young lady burst into tears because the service they had done on her car had not repaired all the rust.

    You can’t get better…

Lost on me. Just some bloke riding no handed pretending to do stuff on a bike that can’t be done in reality and somehow claiming this means he lives on a bike…er.

    You will miss bacon.

Don’t make the same meals using a meat substitute.

I’d totally disagree with both of these points

    +1

A genuine experience I’m sure but also the most cliched statement around when it comes to turning veggie.
For my part, I don’t miss any meat, not once in 20 years have I ever even thought about it. I don’t see it as food at all. It’s the proverbial piece of piss if you are believe in what you are doing.

Being veggie doesn’t make me a peace loving hippie though as I do feel a strong urge to punch people in the face when they say to me “I bet you miss bacon” which I hear about once a week.

Yeah I like the Builders too and agree on the Anniversary which I find pretty grating in places. Apparently John Cleese cited a general lack of laughter in the studio on recording day. He recalls that members of the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation were visiting the studio that day and many of them were in the front row seats, apparently not entirely amused.

O’Reilly: You’ll have to worry for the both of us. I tell you, if the Good Lord—
Basil Fawlty: —is mentioned ONCE more, I shall move you closer to him!

Shame that The Builders is widely regarded (including by John Cleese) as the only poor episode of FT. Kelly is great in it.

    RIP.

That utah vid is a copy. This is the original posted by the riders themselves. I was going to post it last week on the fave videos thread but never got round to it. It’s truly…awesome!

Still a surprising amount of snow today but grippy. Ice underneath can be troublesome. Some of the lessor known trails still virgin snow (well they were until I rode down them!)

Back out tomorrow. Hopefully a bit less snow, at least on the long climbs…

I bought a large 575 frame and had to sell it on as it felt massive. I have a medium which feels great for me at 6ft.

Well at least it’s suitable for mounting

    “mounting Bike”

We are going to have the usual responses that it could be genuine and its not fair on the seller to assume its stolen. Well possibly… My very bitter experience of ebay descriptions like this is that if it sounds dodgy it most likely is.

I bought a Lapierre frame which was described in just a few words with a mobile number. When I decided it was all too dodgy (the frame was not as described and comms with the buyer exposed him as pretty clueless about it) I sent it back and pursued a refund. At that point all hell let loose. Threatening phone calls, dodgy “relatives” of the seller on the phone night and day dishing out abuse and slamming the phone down etc. Lesson learned…

The Sprung vids were great. Got me into ‘proper’ mountain biking. Hilarious to watch now of course, some of that darth vader body armour… :-) Chainspotting was also watched to death.

On the interweb it’s this one as, for me, it totally encapsulates how much fun MTB is:

For clothing it used to be whatever was top of the ‘biggest reduction’ filter on CRC but now it has to be Endura for everything. The only MTB stuff I have worn that doesn’t fall apart, split, tear, shrink, run, come unstuck or generally look knackered after a few month’s riding.
