Martin, merlincycles are selling off 120mm rebas cheap atm which are great forks, just ignore Kidley’s experience as he’s a beast on anything
I have 2 pairs that are still mint after a lot of riding and have been neglected too tbh.

The evo standardised the rear axle for all bolt through options expect the bolt up, whereas on the old version they all needed a different axle.

The evo also has a new ‘stiffer’ axle to cope with some failures on the old 12mm bolt through design.

As mentioned above the shell is exactly the same as you can convert an old Pro 2 to Evo spec

It’s a germ thing! If someone has a cold they put one on to stop spreading germs, or if you might come into contact with someone, (i.e. everywhere in public!), with a cold they wear one too.
The public transport is full of them, we stuck out like sore thumbs as the only one’s not wearing one – ha!!

They need to be pretty crash resistant too!

As you say I think the only one is the KS and it looks like it may be discontinued!

I ended up buying a new saddle with rails, CRC have them on sale atm.

    Surely the competition should be;

Had 3 three 2.0 TDi VAG engined cars since 2005 and all have been mint with never a problem, last 2 got to 130k, 40k on no 3 atm.
My company leases VAG diesel cars, majority being the 2.0 Tdi and I have not heard of a single problem and they get worked hard .

I made a nipple driver from an old flat screwdriver and a broom handle! – file down end as per article above,(the ‘point’ needs to be ~ 3mm longer than flats), put 2 90deg bends in it so it will crank, drill a hole slightly bigger than the screwdriver shaft down the ctr of circular piece of wood, slide shaft into handle – one nipple driver :D
    Makes wheels build so quick.

A group of us are planning to do up Llanberris – down Rhyd Dhu – up A4085 – up Rangers – then left onto Bridleway that goes back to Llanberris (http://www.theedgecycleworks.com/mtbroutes/snowdon-rhyd-ddu/)

Is this route less congested wrt walkers??

I think they look crap, and do not serve any purpose ..

They do serve a purpose. Yes some riders do them all the time as that’s what the spectators heckle for, but the guys winning the races do them too as they are the fastest way over jumps. Physics is great sometimes

    Sockpuppet nailed it above ^
Air time is ‘dead time’ when you’re racing, so you either suck up or ‘pump’ the jumps/tabletops to keep your wheels on the ground and pedal, or if it’s a steep take off that will Def launch you, you scrub it to keep as low/flat as possible.

“non-stop hassle, didnt feel safe, kids were nearly dragged into a shop”

I’d avoid the whole of Nth Africa then, been to Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco and every where was the same, I fekin hated it and will never go back. Having my bald head constantly taken the piss of was tiresome plus ‘jolley’ market traders constantly saying ‘lovely jubbly’, ‘Asda price’!!

Must admit went to Playa de las Americas in Tenerife last Nov as a last minute job, staying in one of the Parque Santiago villas and it’s really been done up, was well impressed. Plus lots of bike hire places for a trip up the mountain

I live quite near to Barton Moss and know a few ‘green warriors’ who regulalry protest there and their arguments against really make me laugh. As mentioned above there’s probably about 10% fact/truth in their arguments and what is fact is unregulated stuff from the good Ol Land of the Free, USA. The famous YouTube vid of the flaming tap appears to be their main argument!!

I’m a tunnelling engineer so know quite a bit about the enviromental issues when mining/drilling underground and I know for a fact that the EA won’t let you anywhere near a water source without some considerable proof that you won’t affect it.

I also sit next to a geo-scientist and have read various geotechnical papers on the matter and the potential effects of fracking are minor compared to what has been and will continue to be caused by coal mining! I haven’t noticed them ever protesting outside our remaining coal pits??

The only way to have a sustainable energy source in the UK is to have a bit of everything, wind and solar just cannot provide our requirements alone.

They are actually still banned in any of their events when mounted anywhere other than on your helmet!

… and I have been told that even though they are mounted to your helmet, any form of pole mount that films your face or 360 rotation is banned too.

I’ve used Snowcard & Dogtag plus Columbus Direct in the past for Whistler, (1 trouble free claim with Snowcard). I generally check all 3 each year and get the cheapest with required cover.

Just received the replacement package following the first delivery being wrong with parts and items missing …. and this has parts missing too – FFS!

Getting better though, as 7 items missing last time and only 2 this time

After looking round for years for my ideal ‘race van’, I’m currently converting a 6 berth motorhome so there’s a full height rear garage available when I’m away racing, but the double bed can be replaced over the garage for family weekends away.

The problem with van conversions is that the main garage access is always round the back, I wanted something with side access from within a walled wind out awning.

Got myself a finance Repo, 57 plate, 23k miles transit based Chausson for £14.7k :P Been told its forecourt value is actually circa £25k, so I’m feeling pretty smug

Just off Jc 10 of M56 on the Nth side (A49) there’s a hospital, people park in the road leading to it, it’s a dead end.

Whilst I agree their vfm, shipping times and after sales service is excellent, I am now starting to wonder about them as a whole as the last 3 orders I have had from them have had a problem with wrong item sent or missing item from package even though the picking list has a tick against it!!

I would prefer if they got it right in the first place tbh!

Takes me 30s to bed in new pads, all done prior to actually fitting them

Get a flat stone, paving slab or I use a chisel sharpening stone. Wet stone and rub pad on it to create a black paste. Clean and then repeat.

Pads will be ready for instant bite. If you have a new rotor too, use a bit of wet & dry and spin disc Btw paper to take a bit of glaze off.

Little trick I learnt when I spannered in a 24hr endurance team when we had to fit new pads during a race.

One warning about valves as the Deemax use narrow rubber ones and some aftermarket ones are round metal and won’t fit in the recess.
However, the Superstar one’s WILL fit ok :)

Mounted loads of non-tubeless tyres on my Deemax over the years
I put a bit extra latex in, (1/2 scoop) as sometimes the bead will leak a bit as they are not as smooth as a specific UST tyre. Just blow it up to seat the bead and then work the fluid round both sides of the rim. Any leaks will seal eventually.

In our current tenders for work in London, in addition to the requirement for a high % of the work force employed has to come from local boroughs, they are now stipulating that a certain % has to be ex cons too.
We get audited on these and financial penalties imposed if we don’t meet them!

This was recommended on Moneysavingexpert and it’s the cheapest I’ve found @ £5.95 per transaction. http://www.x-o.co.uk/

Just open an account on line, post the cert to them, (instructions on site), when in account just sell them. You can sell £10,800 worth capital gains allowance per year before having to pay tax.

I’ve had mine installed for nearly 2 years now and I’m getting an 11% return on my outlay, which will pay for itself in 8 years. I then get 17 years of tax free profit + cheaper Elec bills 8)

If you’ve got the money sat in the back effectively losing value, (Inflation > interest rates), then it’s a no brainer!!

Try to get some battery back-up installed too, that way they recharge during the day and you then get to use that stored energy when it’s dark.

Yep, ran all kinds of non UST DH tyres on UST rims, just put a bit of extra latex in there. After inflation the bead may leak a bit for a while until the latex forms a seal, but just keep moving the wheel so the latex keeps washing around the area leaking, it will seal eventually.

However if you do get a real stubbon tyre that wont seal, then plan B will work. Put a tube in, inflate to ~50psi and leave for 24hrs. Then break the bead on one side of the tyre only, remove tube, put in UST valve and latex, re-seat tyre bead and inflate.

Yes they are re-usable but no way will you do it by hand like the 8 and 9sp, you need the special pliers or some ‘ingenuity’.
To remove without pliers get some lock wire and loop around the link and twist with normal pliers to tighten the wire, the link will pull together and unlock.

To lock without pliers, place in chain and spin chain so link is at the top of drive, get on bike, apply brakes and then stand on forward pedal and the link will lock from the pressure.

Easiest way to bed in pads is to use some water and a flat stone / paving slab / or in my case I use a chisel sharpening stone.

Wet stone, rub brand new pad on stone in circular motion to create a nice black paste. Clean pad and stone with clean water and repeat – sorted.

If you’re bedding in a new disc too, use some damp wet and dry paper on it. Fold paper and hold onto disc either side and spin wheel a few times to just take the polish off the disc, then clean with water.

Little trick used by motorcycle endurance racing teams when there is insufficient practice time to bed in all the pads required

I can recommend the Mudhugger too.
It’s got a bit of a ‘marmite’ look about it but it certainly functions better than any other mudguard I’ve ever used before.
