I’d agree with the above, it’s a poor wheel build, also the rear Minion is mounted the wrong way round!

I got some 0.5 & 1mm spacers online from ‘Londonfixiebike’, the ones used for freehubs are the same size.

@100mphplus I take it you mean Accelerator, if so the taped was laid across the fireroad so if you did take the shortcut you had to cut the tape, which is against the rules.

Yes the tape was across the road and stopped ~ 300mm short of the start of the forest trail were the upstand rocks were.

If you rode to the end of the tape and then went through the gap Btw the end of the tape and upstand rocks then technically according to the rules, you have ridden within the taped trail and it is legal, since there was no further tape on the RHS until you reached the next fire road crossing.

I have ridden DH for 17 years and the rules state that you must ‘ride Btw the tapes’ and wrt the rules all the lines everyone call cheats are actually legal. The problem is there are a lot of DH riders competing in this new discipline and until the rules are plainly stated, or the courses taped out better, then this debate on ‘cheating’ will continue.

I knew it was there and chose not to use it and also told all of my fellow Cat competitors it was there. They would have flamed me for life if I had, however if I knew someone else in my Cat was going to use it then I would have too as I was there to win but thankfully I managed that within the ‘spirit’ of the taping so I am doubly pleased about my result.

Is anyone going to admit using the mega ‘cheat’ line on stage 5 that cut out the whole of the 2nd forest section?

I pointed it out to Steve and Adrian on Friday night but they didn’t alter the taping, so the option was there to carry on down the fire road and cut out the whole of the forest trail.

It was so obvious I will be surprised if no one used it considering some went to greater lengths to ‘manufacture’ a ‘cheat’ line on stage 3.

Also, my sis, brother in law and little’un came along and there were no provisions for spectators at all. I think if they want the sport to develop they’ve got to make it as attarctive and accessible as possible which includes making it easy for people to view it at its best

:?: It was based in a trail centre with loads of parking right opposite one stage finish and a short walk to the end of two other stage finishes and the pit area, there was even parking space available in the pit areas itself, how ‘accessible’ do you want things to be :?:

There was also toilets, refreshments and an ice ceam van calling in, as far as facilities go it was as good as it gets in the UK.

I bought some 661 evo pads, normally take M in everything, tried the M 661 and they were on big side for their size, so ended up with a S.

I have misled you sorry, I’ve looked into it and the silver version did come out about 4 years ago, BUT the Std Deemax version was available for the 2011 model in silver with the new decals on;- http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30816

I’m guessing these will be last years stock being sold off and for 300 euro at the current exchange rate they are a bargain :D

I’m a bit confused as the advert seems to say they are new, but that version / colour is from about 4 years ago prior to the ultimates coming out as mentioned above but they have the new version decals on them.

As far as quality is concerned I have 3 sets of Deemax wheels, one is nearly 10 years old now and they are all still going strong, they are bullet proof. You can shed some weight as they are tubeless compatible, just make sure you use latex in them and buy a good quality spoke key, Pedro’s do a realy good one.

Depending upon how you store them tyres will eventually dry out and become ‘brittle’, the better the storage, (i.e. cool and shaded), the longer the ‘process’ You will notice that they have a bluey sheen to them, that’s a residue from the evaporating oils.

You can use the tyre but they will probably tear to shreds pretty quick.

You can buy a treatment compound from car racing shops that ‘refreshes’ them and makes them tacky again but it’s expensive and you could buy new tyres for the cost.

Summit Cycles hire out Rocky Mountains, the bike park are hiring out Giant bikes this year, ticket2ridebc.com rent out commencals, there’s also Fanatik plus lots of others in the village.

It will cost you £60/day min to hire, extra if you take out accident cover. If you can persuade the wife, it’s only ~ £40 to take your bike on the plane

There is a school of thought that you only need big+big+2 at normal sag, (or mid travel to be on the safer side), not full Compr.

Unless you’re into flat hucking, you only ever fully compress when you hit something at speed and you’ll be in a smaller rear gear then.

When I went double and bash the chain was too long when in the 26T granny and smaller rear sprockets so I adopted the above policy and have never had a problem.

Did the enduro there the other week and the best trail was one we didn’t compete on and was simply a transit trail – Adams family combo – great fun.

I have never been overweight on the airport scales, even when my bag has been overweight!
What you do is put your foot against the scale just before you put your bag on it and then ‘adjust’ the pressure excerted by your foot to show a ‘realistic underweight’ reading on the scales

Obviously you need to keep your foot there until you take the bag off to go to oversized counter or the conveyor starts moving.

Great story from a couple of years ago was Nigel Page adding a decimal point to the overweight charge sheet Btw check in and payment counter for all of the CRC team stuff, changing 125kg to 12.5kg

On the top tube, pull cables tight through frame and put zip ties on the ends of the cables as they exit at headset and near seat post so they hold the cable ‘suspended’ in the tube. It still rattles a little bit but not as obscenely bad as it was.

In the down tube, remove forks and stuff bubble wrap / pipe lagging down main tube.

Bit of a faff but works since the rattle IS ferkin annoying!

Rear shock is a bit exposed to muck from the rear wheel, but that’s not unique to this Manu/design. I made a mudguard from an inner tube that goes Btw the seat tube and swingarm, totally protecting the shock and works a treat.

Did something similar on a Supreme 4 years ago and the bearings lasted 3 years when other people I knew without the ad hoc mud guard where changing bearings every 6 months.

I’ve got an AM1 and it’s a brilliant bike. Have had a Meta 5.5 and Meta 6 previously and the new AM is simply light years better. It feels like a 4″ travel bike up the hills and then a DH bike on the down side :D

Have had various Commencals in the past 5 years and the past manufacturing problems HAVE been sorted. Yes there will ALWAYS be failures, similar to every bike brand out there, but the new design that started with the V3 is proving to be pretty bullet proof.

I also got a V3 last year and of the 11 V3’s and 8 Meta AM’s that Ticket2ride have used (including a normally bike wrecking Whistler season), every one is still going strong.

There is only one annoying thing about the bike, but that is curable – the internal cabling looks beautiful BUT they rattle inside the tubes.

You won’t regret your purchase if you get one.

It’s taken them over 1 year to produce the V3 mudguard, so don’t hold your breath for the Meta AM one appearing soon and also would you really pay £50 for a bit of plastic!!

I’ve used the good old ‘cut inner tube’ to make a rear mudguard that protects the shock, works a treat too

I bed in my bads BEFORE I FIT them

Take them out of the packet, then use a flat piece of concrete / stone / paving flag, (I actually use a chisel sparpening stone), wet the pad and then rub it on the stone until you make a paste. Wash the pad clean in the water & repeat once more.

Fit pads and they will bite like **** first pull of the lever 8)

Used to spanner in a M/C 24hr endurance team and this was a sure fire way of bedding in new pads without having to waste practice time.

Similarly if you’re fitting new discs too, just rub some fine wetted emery cloth round them a few time to take off the ‘sheen’.

They have lots of sand and garvel already that’s why the trail gets blown out!! What they need is some ‘binder’ like clay or clayey soil to stick it all together

Someone said that the shop at llandegla has one.

…and I can thoroughly recommend them. Got my AM1 5 weeks ago and I love it. Done a couple of tweeks on it but that was personal preference, but it rides beautifully, especially up the hills where the old Meta 6 used to ‘labour’.

    Which organisers?

I have used mine for over 3 years now, in local, regional, national and international events all without problem on inspection. The VPD back protectors are CE approved and some would argue they are safer than hard plastic spine protectors.

Any organiser stating that they are not allowed would be on very dodgy ground.

Yeah, they seem to be the in thing at the moment for that factory look. You never really need them unless your racing.

Not true, I have a tear off fitted to every lens I have in all riding conditions since it protects it from scratches et al. Dusty/dry/windy conditions in particular ‘sand blast’ a lens!

I noticed a lot of tear offs in one place at Inners too the other week, all of one particular make which was strange. I think someone must have pulled off a full lamination, (can be 10 to 15 lenses in one ‘pack’) by accident and they eventually seperated in the wet and fluttered around the trail.

I know it’s expensive, but the POC body armour is the comfiest I have ever worn and I’ve had dainese and 661 in the past.

Contrary to what Northwind says, (and it appears that he actually hasn’t tried the VPD stuff from his comment), I have found that I bend my back and sides a lot when riding and the rigid plastic back protectors would dig in and move about. The VPD just stays in position and moulds to your figure.

For a cheaper option the O’Neil Saastec is the same material as the POC and worth looking at for sure.

RTS do a lot of road sportives and they use a rubber pad on the road that you ride over at the start and finish, why aren’t they using that system??

Tell us something new – ha!

I have been able to guess the winner of magazine bike tests for years based upon who their ‘favourite brand’ was

    100mphplus

…and while the dibber method isn’t the best solution either, at least it gives you accurate and immediate results, unlike the current RTS system.

So at the moment I’d say it was a better solution for the ‘Premier Series’ that in reality should have instant live timing!

I’m not having a go at Steve as I think he’s doing a great job, it’s RTS who I have beef with as they are supposed to be providing a service to match his premier series which they are failing to deliver!
