Might be worth going in my scruffy clothes to see what kind of reaction I get from the sales assistants

I did it the other way round, MTB gxp BB off an FSA K-Force crankset in my road bike with SRAM force cranks, the only difference I could see BTW the road and MTB BB’s was the length of the plastic spacer. Everything fitted ok otherwise.

Just buy single with anti fog coating and posts for tear offs. Will last far longer than a dual lens that get scratched really quickly.

100mphplus – is there any connection between your tendency to reverse onto a road and all the local children apparently having no legs???

Ha, it would if the buggers didn’t run across the road so quick

I live opposite a junior school for special children with no legs

The next 6 weeks are going to be bliss not having to tell stupid mothers in cars not to block my drive whilst I’m reversing out, so their poor legless children don’t have to walk the 400m from their houses round the corner

Not sure who you’re flying with but it costs less than 2 days bike hires to get your own bike on the planes, (£46 on Canadian Affair / Air Transat), you’re then got 32kg extra for all of your bike & gear.

The fire road route up is fairly easy and you can actually cycle a DH bike on most of it, takes ~ 45 mins. Fire road is a lot easier than pushing up track.

Go up fire road from cross roads Junc nearest FC offices, this bit is quite steep so you’ll probably have to push. Then take 1st left turning, this is the fire road that the course crosses and reasonably flat. Keep going on this until a T junc then turn R, then R at next junc which takes you to the start of DH trails.

As mentioned above, http://www.ticket2ridebc.com do regular guided rides to Pemberton on Tues, Squamish on Thurs and North Shore on Fridays. Dependant upon weather they also do a Heli Drop off Rainbow Mountain on a Tues too.

You can also hire a Commencal from them, they even have the new SL available to ride.

    But then again

So the 2012 London Summer Olympics will not be as awesome as they could have been, and that has everything to do with Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke not being there.

This ‘you must use 1 finger to brake’ is nonsense, you use as many fingers as you feel comfortable with!!

I use 2 fingers on all of my bikes, I learnt how to relax on the bike and counter my natural instincts which is the main reason for ‘death gripping’.

Basically you need to just ‘rest’ your hands on the bars and not grip them, choice of grip does make a difference. I prefer soft ‘chunky’ Oury grips, but friends prefer slimmer Odi type – you need to experiment yourself.

It’s a natural reaction to tense up when your bike starts to ‘squirm’ and this is the worse thing you can do as you are fighting against the gyrascopic action of your front wheel. Relaxing is the best thing to do as the gyroscopic force of the front wheel will naturally want to straighten it.

I read a book by Keith Code years ago that describes the technique and have never had arm pump in my life since.

There was a classic ‘letter’ in one of the MTB mags years ago from someone asking where they could buy some ‘Death Grips’. They had heard people talking about how they went faster since using ‘death grips’ so they wanted some for themselves

I’ve had one since April and it’s mint. Had a Meta 6 previously and the AM is miles better at everything, it pedals up hills like a 4″ travel bike and feels like a DH bike on the downs.

Not sure what Juan is on about as I find it rails corners and is really planted, I’m racing mine in the UK Gravity Enduro and I’m leading my Cat so it must be working

There is only 1 annoying thing about it and that’s the sound of the internal cables rattling in the tubes on technical stuff but that can be cured/quietened down with a couple of zip ties and pipe lagging/bubble wrap :D

I’ve run non ust tyres both tubeless and non tubeless (i.e. with a tube) on my 3 pairs of Deemax rims and hammered them on DH trails, so not sure why you’re having a problem? The only tyres that wouldn’t stay inflated are Conti’s and that’s because the sidewalls leak, I managed to seal the beads, but they then deflated over time!!

I put some extra latex in non ust tyres and they eventually seal after a bit of bead leakage.

I ‘soap’ the bead before inflation using washing up liquid or tyre fitters ‘bead wax’ which aids seating.

What pressures are you managing to ‘burp’ your tyres at? I run as low as 18psi on mine in wet / technical and on rough tracks such as Fort William I usually run at 25 – 30psi and have never had a problem.

Are you sure? I know 9 speed road mechs work with 9 speed MTB shifters as I’ve been running 105 mechs on my DH bike for years.

You need the newer LG1+ E13 guide as the bolts are flush with the back of the top guide on that. There’s a similar MRP one too but I can’t remember what type.

I had the same problem when I got my new frame in 08, Commencal actually supplied the older version chain guide loose in the box, which REALY p’d me off as it obviously doesn’t fit and the Andoran ferkers must have known :x

Everyone I know with Havens has had a problem with the freehub and/or loose bearings. On paper they look great, in service they leave a lot to be desired esp compared to Hope.

Indeed there is no compatiblity on SRAM/Shimano rear shifting components apart from one which is a SRAM Rocket shifter with a shimano mech.

You’ve not mentioned duration, but you need to go for at least 2 weeks to get value for money, coz unfortunately it ain’t cheap anymore

Take your own bike as it only costs £20 each way on CA, whereas bike hire will cost you more than that per day.

The Chilcotins are Def worth a visit, real ‘wilderness biking’.

Mention T2R01 for a 5% discount too

You could go on the course if you want to ‘fast track’ and shell out £240 ish. TBH I’d say just ride the trails and hit the bigger stuff as you get more confident, which you will.

The ‘big’ stuff isn’t all that bad TBH, most of it is just a head f*&k as it will be a gap, which you will have cleared distance wise on the numerous table tops in the park.

The peak chair ride is also available for $15 top up ticket now too, so that ‘exclusive’ element isn’t valid anymore

I have some of the SS wheels and they’re great light weight wheels for for the money.

The only gripes I have is the SS rim tape – it’s too thin if you use lightweight tubes. The tube ‘forces’ the rim strip into the spoke hole and punctures, also the rear lacing is uneven, 8 x 16, so its needed truing a couple of times, which isn’t a problem as I have a jig, but would be if you didn’t know how to do it.

I ride for http://www.ticket2ridebc.com who are also the Canadian Commencal, IXS and Spank importers.

So in return for promoting T2R and trying to pursuade people to holiday there, I get team kit, Commencal bikes at canadian trade minus 10%, (so roughly 45% of UK price), Maxxis tyres, trade on IXS equipment, trade on Spank equip, free accomodation in Whistler for 2 weeks.

Basically I holidayed there in 2005 and discussed a marketing proposal with them on how to promote T2R in the UK and they asked me to set up a DH team. It doesn’t really cost them anything to sponsor me, just supplying marketing material. As mentioned above, look for an opportunity what YOU can provide to them.
