First I’d try something like these

    https://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/sockets-accessories/laser-locking-wheel-nut-remover

If that didn’t work (or you have spinning collar type bolts) then find a friendly welder and get them to weld another bolt to the top the use that to undo.

I’m a V50 owner (aspiring to a V70 AWD) and it’s bloody brilliant. 2.0d and I get over 40mpg round town, it’s torquey as hell, and with the 6 speed gearbox many miles and hour equals not many rpms.

I replace bits as it needs them, all DIY, have yet to come up against a job I couldn’t do myself. 190k miles and no signs of being near death as yet.

VNC will give you remote access to a Mac, but also set him up with a ‘user’ account, not an administrator.

You’ll probably need to setup a port-forward rule on his router (assuming his Mac doesn’t have a public facing IP) to allow the VNC traffic through.

I fitted a Kaldewei steel bath when I did my bathroom. No need for any additional support round the top, but I did make up some brackets from steel straps to clamp the feet to the floor. Might not be officially needed, but I felt it was a good plan. It’s still rock solid 8 years on.

Being steel, it should be earth bonded too.

You think a car gearbox is heavy, try bench pressing a Land Rover gearbox up off your chest and into position.

Most jobs on a car are do-able at home if you have the right tools and do your research beforehand. IME there are lots of scare stories on t’internet from people with zero mechanical experience who have attempted things they really shouldn’t have. In reality it’s just a case of knowing what bolts to undo and in what order.

I find car stuff all rather small and mostly not much more than finger tight, but 95% of my tinkering involves Land Rovers, grinders, welder, big hammers and man sized spanners.

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned The Pig On the Beach yet. Definitely more restaurant than pub, but properly nice, and good lawn for the kids to run around on too.

Cheers, I’ll investigate some TIG gloves. Pretend I’m a middle class welder.
