James aka Brickman at Glasgow bike hive knows his rockshox. Made my old revelations feel like new. He won’t do a full service on fox though.

Can I bring this thread back to life? I’ve been through 3 SRAM Dub BBs in about 18 months with only riding a couple times a month. Can anyone update if they had any luck with the uberbike version? Ta

Yeah I wouldn’t call that a bargain, somebody might pay that much but I’ve seen plenty other single speeds like this go for less with better spec, discs etc

You guys realise that 90% of retail banking is exactly the same across the board?

They all have to follow the same rules and all offer the same product. Aside from the occasional novel feature like being able to get cash from tesco without a card or scanning cheques on your phone there’s really very little difference.

I got semi t-bonded in July by someone pulling out without looking. I wasn’t too badly hurt (sprained wrist) and it was only the front wheel which was damaged. Went through cycle law Scotland and got my £3250 payment in last week which is way more than I expected. Apparently there’s no fees with BC membership but my compo seems like a good deal based on what I read before I contacted them so even with their 15% fees I might still be better off without BC membership

Haha, not only can I not type properly but it seems this is not a new idea.

Scrapping my drying rack idea. Dehumidifier seems to be a better long term investment.

What do people recommend? My flat has small rooms, 3mx4m max

Thanks for the replies. Maybe a de-humidifier is actually what I am after, I expect this would increase the humidity gradient and help dry stuff faster anyway.

    Revive the thread

Apparently Giant provided a frame which was built up with the Go Fund Me money and it was stolen from his house 6 days ago.

    Think he deserves another one?

The whole tubeless tape thing is a con, all you need to do is cover the spoke holes and any sticky tape will work.

Just use any tape (parcel tape, duct, electrical) it really doesn’t matter.

I bodged mine with a tiny Philips head screw I found inside an old PC, been working fine for over a year now.

Best I have found is the Surly “Gnot Boost” on my Karate Monkey. It’s a 148 bolt in which has an M5 allen at one end to clamp it up. Less faff than the sliding drop outs on my Pipedream although the brake does need the occasional tweak which only takes 30 seconds.

Defo Pipedream Moxie. It’s the longest slackest SS capable hardtail I know of. I saw a full build for sale on Facebook for £1100 the other day

The reason I no longer but anything from planet X. Couple issues with orders and never had a response from customer service, luckily I’ve been refunded through PayPal every time.

What tape are you using? I have found 3 different brands of “tubeless” tape to be total garbage, now I just use cheap 3M duct tape and have never had tyres going flat overnight.

+1 here, I’ve been trying to find videos for a simple stretch/yoga routine but a so called “beginners routine” on YouTube on Sunday nearly killed me so if anyone knows any actual beginners routines that would be much appreciated.

You might be better getting a 142 with a boost adaptor on, the hope pro4 single speed for example.

If it’s the cable stop grub screw thing I lost mine and I have replaced it with a tiny screw I found inside an old PC box and some super glue so hold it firm. It hasn’t come loose yet.

To be honest if it’s a hardtail then literally anything can go bike packing, just get a custom frame bag made up to fill the triangle. The rest of your bags are off the shelf anyway

Gotta agree with wzzzz, if it’s the first time you’ve snapped a spoke just get it replaced and the rest of the wheel tensioned up (it’s really not that hard once you get a feel for it) and save you bare pennies.

Later on if you want a new hub, get a shop to build it into the wheel and you should be able to sell your pro4 for maybe £100 if it’s in good condition.

I’ve had this and I put down to the glue on the tape cracking, now I use duct tape, much better. You could try using an inner tube cut down the center to seal the rim, makes a perfect seal if you can hook the tyre inside the tube.

For a while I had 2 bikes both with 3 inch rangers on 30mm rims (not by choice), it was like riding on a bouncy castle, definitely would not recommend the combo or wtb ever to be honest.

If you have a 30mm internal rim I’d say it wouldn’t be practical to have anything narrower than a 2.2 tyre otherwise your tyre profile will be all off and might not even sit on the bead properly. Have a look yourself at your rim manufacturers recommendations but I doubt any would say less than 60mm tyre to a 30mm internal rim.

I have some slick conti cruiser style 2.2s They come up really bulby on my 21mm inner rims so I’ve never used them. You can have them for postage plus a few quid if you like. They are a weird brown colour though.

Edit – they might actually be the same schwalbes as above but in brown

I’ve a 20 mile commute which I am lucky enough to be able to take my bike on the train if I wish, doesn’t really make it any faster but I always end up doing this in the mornings because it’s easier. I’ve done it both ways for a couple weeks at a time before but it always leaves me knackered and not wanting to do anything at the weekend.

    @amedias

Haha yeah just realised reading that. You’re right it will be the crank length that will be causing the pedal strikes I had issues with before. Probably the 650 wheels on the Glencoe made it feel much lower and stuck to the ground.

Thanks for the input here, I feel like it shouldn’t make a big difference once I’m used to it.

No shampoo for a good few years now, hair still gets dirty but water cleans it good enough. Use soap on my armpits though because I don’t find they get clean without. Sometimes use cider vinegar in my hair if it’s really dirty.

29er 2.4 , I tried 27+ but much prefer the larger wheels. I find mine to have plenty clearance. I was even riding it with my bikepacking 2.6″ wheels from my other bike for a bit and they didn’t rub unless cornering hard. 150mm forks which I think is 10mm over the recommended but I don’t see it being a problem.

I have one. My first ever modern geometry bike so I’ve nothing to really compare it to however I’d say everything they said on the adverts is pretty much true to how it feels. Then again I’m sure any hardcore hardtail with similar geo would be the same, I only went for the moxie since it has adjustable dropouts for single speed, also recently found out how much of a difference a 15mm shorter chainstay makes for learning to manual.

I had this problem recently putting a eagle cassette on because I didn’t have the right length hanger fitted. I just found one with the correct fitments on eBay which looked just long enough to work and it did! Only cost a fiver.
