P.s. got a 6000 lumen lamp and battery for sale if interested…?

Not right now, still gonna do a little bit more research. Have you got a link for it, or photos?

Are the batteries universal for most of these lights? (assuming they are the same voltage of course)

That looks like it could be perfect!

Could you give me an idea of how powerful it is?

^EBay one is same as the one I bought.

@Simon – how do you rate it?

EDIT: Battery life, power, charge time etc.

    In two minds now.

Has anyone had an experience with one of these:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cree-XML-XM-L-T6-1600LM-LED-Bicycle-Bike-Front-Torch-Head-Cycle-Lights-Headlight-/200855315142?pt=UK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item2ec3e8e2c6

Seems a little stupid spending £115 on a torch when I could get 7 of those things and still be under £115.

Or something a little more robust looking, anybody used one of these bad boys :

    Worth every penny.

I’m sure, but it’s quite hard to swallow spending that amount on a torch!

I had a pair, they were really good, but sounded so much better with foam tips, which are expensive, but they do make a huge difference.

Unfortunately, mine got a loose connection and therefore wouldn’t work, this happened about 3 weeks after buying them. I wouldn’t hold it against them though, and I’d definitely buy another pair, simply because everyone else seems to get on so well with them.

    Orange five 2011.
    1 x 10 – 36T chainring, 11-36 cassette
    Fox 150 32 FIT RLC
    Fox RP23 BV
XT brakes and chainset (except zee mech)

    about 29lbs

Love it, needs an uppy downy, and a shock tune, but really pleased I sold my DH bike for an AM.
Only regret is going fox over a Marzocchi Rockshox combo.

No it doesn’t stay clean, this was taken after building it.

Got my results this morning, so looking forward to my shed load over the next 4 years.

I’m completely happy with it though, I don’t see why others should pay for my education. At the end of the day, I’m going to Uni to qualify myself so I can earn more money. It makes sense I pay to do that.

I also hate the idea of person X paying taxes so that person Y can go spend 4 years getting a useless degree like media studies, when they could be getting a job and contributing to the economy.

At the end of the day, if the opportunity cost of going to University is higher, people will be more likely to chose a worthwhile degree, or get a job / apprenticeship if they don’t quite cut the mustard.

Reasonably right-wing I know, but I think it is fair.

If you are on a budget, DHB Signal, brilliant jacket. Packs really small, and very light.

I think you may be reading too much into the whole “dark side” thing 😀

I do like the idea of some MTB riders behaving as though they have the reputation of the sport on their shoulders though 😆

    Made me laugh

I used to fix iPhones for a bit of college money, I bought a 30W electric Blackspur one off fleaBay for next to nothing. It was fine for me, but in an ideal world I would have had one with a finer tip.

If they’re half way through a 130 mile ride, they’re not going to be unfit no matter what they say!!!
Loads of people always play the “I’m so unfit you’ll be so much faster than me card”.

Don’t worry, I’m sure it was the bike not the rider 😀 , probably worth getting a new one so you can keep up.

On a more serious note, the only way to prevent this from happening is to go out and ride…… lots!

    Have fun.

@Nipper – I can’t find a Showerpass event? Showerpass elite looks good if quite expensive.

I think that there’s a popular misconception that the vast majority of Five owners are first time FS buyers with more money than sense, and are buying into the brand as they are hardcore patriotic Orange fanboys, rather than because the bikes are any good.

I picked up my 5 frame second hand, simply because it ticked the boxes, and it was a bit of a deal, if another branded frame of similar spec had popped up, I would have snapped it up just as quickly.

It is naive for people to judge both bike and owner, without getting to know either.

I don’t see the difference between a Five and any other bike, lets face it, it’s not that much more expensive than anything else around and at the end of the day it is just a mountain bike.
I am also yet to meet a middle aged IT director Five owner, driving an Audi A5.
I love mine, but with all the amazing bikes out there, there’s a small chance it’ll be my next bike too, unless I find nothing better after a few demos.

    Oh dear….

Enduro is synonymous with All-Mountain isn’t it? (specialized enduro, and other bike manufacturers, like Kona do it that way too)….
I know there is “XC enduro”, but I thought the definition had changed recently….

Weird how their trail rigs have 160mm of travel, but the enduro rig has 140mm – wrong way round surely? I always thought enduro bikes were supposed to be a more burly than trail bikes.

Agreed attack trail looks nice, don’t need a new bike, but it’s got me interested, that along with the new Cube Fritzz.

There are exceptions, but 99% of footage looks dead dull IMO. Seen so many holidaymakers spend their evenings crowded around laptops in chalets, laboriously comparing hours of almost identical and very monotonous footage of themselves and their mates pottering down trails that look flat. WTF?

Kind of agree with you. I think most of my videos are kind of boring to an outsider. It’s very self indulgent to publish biking videos of yourself on the internet, but I enjoy it, they get a few likes on youtube, so some others enjoy it, so I don’t see a problem.
I agree the fisheye makes the trails look really tame too, but this is much better on the GoPro 3.
I also enjoy having a sneaky peak at other’s videos on trails which I’ve ridden or will ride to see how it is (or isn’t in some cases) done.

I tend to use my friends a lot when I go riding with him, it makes sense because he has no wifi, so he can’t submit them to youtube, which I instead. Editting wise, my laptop is awful so it takes longer than it should, but I generally just run some chesty (best angle by far imo) footage to music comme ca:

But yeah, if I had my own, I’d probably use it a lot, untill I ran out of trails that I hadn’t filmed on before…

I don’t Strav, but I do use my iPhone to record routes on Endomondo and use ViewRanger or BikeHub for navigation.

Yeah, I think it would be more practical, and cheaper to get a cheap smartphone.
Looking at a Nokia Lumia 510 – anybody used this? or something better in a similar price range?

and if I am out all day/night, my phone has a better chance of still having a charge in it.

Wow, surprising. I’ll have a look at a few phones then, I like the idea of Oruxmaps, because you can create routes etc. on it I think?!

Strava is just for laughs, right?

    haha…..yeah….haha 😕

Yeah, a GPS device seems more sensible, because of the battery length, and size. 3.5 hours would almost definitely not be enough, and I do need the per second sampling rate as my local trails are pretty short and twisty, and I want a accurate time, not that I’m competitive or anything 😆

So Garmin 205 not enough memory
Garmin 200 not fast enough sampling
    anything else? Something non-Garmin?
If not, sounds like I will have to cope with a cheap android phone – any recommendations ?(I cannot deal with iPhones, having fixed them for college money, and had a few myself I really cannot stand the bloody things.)

Get a second hand Garmin Edge 205 or 305. Per second sampling and the design looks much more at home on a mountain bike than any of the models released since.

So the older Garmin Edge 205, has per second sampling, yet the newer 200 doesn’t……. weird

do you need to stem or bar mount it if Strava is your main thing?

    no, I don’t really 🙂

haha, no I have a nokia indestructo brick – it does have snake II though 😉

If you want low profile, I can’t recommend Nukeproof Electrons enough.

Unbelievably light for the price, very strong (I have had some very high speed pedal strikes and they are absolutely good as new), very cheap, very easy to maintain, very grippy.

Slightly concave profile feels a little weird at first, but does not effect grip, just feels a little odd.

Nope….. But I will be throwing a roll in my bag tomorrow! Wonderful stuff thanks!

Well, next time you get a puncture, and can’t be arsed with a patch…….
