If it’s performance your after I’d keep the Pike.

If you wanna make your bike look the dogs bollocks, or are thinking of selling it soon get the Talas – it will boost the resale value quite a bit.

Merlin must be really struggling to sell 1.5″ forks………

@Rickos That is a bargain – I kind of wanted a Kashima RP23 anyway though, as it’ll boost the resale value loads (people love a Kashima combo). And I’m happy to save up a bit more for the custom tune.

@steved yeah – I’m gonna ride my shock around while a save up for the tune – hopefully I won’t need one – but I probably will. How much did you end up paying? Loco is around £100 which seemed pretty reasonable compared to other quotes I’ve heard.

06awjudd, if the rider knows how they like the shock to work then any decent tuner will take that on board too….. and correct that riders perception where necessary

Oh right – may be a good thing to ride my new shock for a few months before getting it tuned then 🙂

I thought they asked for frame, weight, type of riding etc. rather then how people want their shock to feel….

Maybe they just clean it and send it back and its all just the placebo effect

I ended up going for this:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=90530

I’ll ride it as it is at the moment, and maybe get it Tuned later on.

Is the Boost Valve worth it? or would a custom tuned non BV shock perform just as well?
    Thanks

Looks like the best option would be to get a 2nd hand air shock and send it of to LOCO then.

Hmmmm, that would be ideal – but very expensive.

Can anyone recommend whacking a coil shock on there?

Or should I just not bother and go for a coil shock (I’m riding Enduro and a bit of DH and a tiny XC)

@dirtbiker : fair enough that last descent was pretty damn fast! How’d you do?
Is it just the UK gravity enduro now?

Okay thanks yeah I guess I’ll just go for it – I’ve found some helmet cam footage, and some of the guys look pretty fast…

Sounds like 36s are the way to go then, I’ll try and pick up another pair 🙂

I’ve looked into that, and it would end up costing over £100, so it would be cheaper to sell it, and then try to find a similar fork 2nd hand.

Oh right, what about Marzocchi 55s? are they any good?

Hmmm, if that’s the case, what else is there, other then a 36 or 34?

Yeah, I have seen some pretty amazing riders riding downhill at the Forest of Dean on trail bikes, and Rowan Sorrell and Joe Barnes seem to cope – not that I’ll be sending it like they do.

I highly doubt I can afford it – my budget is around £300, so it’s these : http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FOFO32FRL/fox_32_float_rl_150mm_suspension_fork

    or second hand

Thanks Gamo – yeah I’m 90% sure it’ll mean new forks – I may be able to pay someone to swap the same forks but with a longer steerer if I’m lucky 😛

    @b r I meant like a gap of 10mm or so – apparently 3mm is normal.

Yeah, I guess I may as well wait for the frame to arrive, and hope they may fit 😕
Unfortunately, they aren’t Kashimas – i’d be wanting around £350 if they don’t fit.

Bloody hell!! Why do builds never go exactly to plan? I guess I’m gonna need some new forks 🙁

Anybody want a pair of 2011 Fox 36 Floats? White, V.Good condition bar a small scratch on one of the stickers?

Tapered. If I ran a 30mm stacked stem, it might work?!

How many spacers are you using ivantate? And what stem?

Can I get away with it being any lower?

Does anyone know the stack height of a hope integrated headset?

Does it matter if the top cap has a slight gap between it and the top of the steerer?

    06awjudd

Well, I’ll wait for the frame to arrive – I was planning on running no spacers anyway, and the renthal duo stem is pretty low 🙂

Sounds like they won’t fit, then – I don’t think 35mm is going to be enough to play with, what with headset installed and stuff.
